Spot on. Judge Ito constantly did this - he would rule to try and appeal both sides, and was criticised for it at the time. He would, as the saying goes, "split the baby", in reference to King Solomon. He lost control of the trial because he was unable to make distinct, concise, and definitive rulings, without concession.
He seemingly wanted to avoid being criticised by the defense, and to a lesser extent by the prosecution. In doing so his performance was criticised by everybody.
The judge have to lean for allowing defence purported evidence more than prosecutors since the defence is usually will call for trial reversals if they lose, and reversals is the thing judges want
well he had to appeal to both sides, he's a judge, he HAS to be impartial. people's strong opinions on the case just blinded them from seeing from alternate perspectives
@@hotdogwater9060 No, a judge shouldn't rule to appeal to both sides, they're not a debate moderator. They're supposed to adjudicate disputes and rule on issues, such as issues of evidence, based on the law. Every decision a judge makes just be impartial because the law is impartial, it leans neither one way nor the other.
Ito's decisions on that case were questionable at best. Allowing a "mini trial" on the Fuhrman tapes, for instance, diverted the case from one in which OJs guilt or innocence was being questioned, to something else entirely.
Ito was starstruck. He brought Larry King into his chambers and actually revealed to him his thoughts about which way he intended to rule on Nicole Brown's domestic violence tapes, in respect of their admissibility.
He was remarkably lax, and allowed too many sidebars, eventually losing control of the courtroom numerous times.
@@matiasdelgado9343 actually, yes, the judge IS a debate moderator. the judge isn't also jury, his literal only job is to keep the trial civil, make sure no one yells or starts a physical fight, and based on whether or not the jury finds the accused guilty, he will give a sentence. he is a judge, not jury, not executioner, not anything else
You have to be fair...
1:29 The two men, from opposite sides, 'high fiving' each other is GOLD.
This hits different after seen American Crime Story.
For real!
Yes
I agree I was old enough to watch the trial
And I’ve seen American Crime
It does hit differently
This hits different after oj's dead.
It's amazing Mike Myers actually looks like Ito.
Lol, Chris Farley as F. Lee Bailey...
My first thought lol
lol I know he just nails it.
Damn, Michael McKean had a knack for playing lawyers.
Here's a funny thing. If you watch John Travolta's performance as Robert Shapiro, you'll see a pretty good Lorne Michaels impression.
The mouth
Is that in another sketch? This is Michael McKean.
Exactly. Too bad it wasnt a good Shapiro impression
I can't unsee it now
Chris Farley as F Lee Bailey was outstanding.
Mike Myers breaking was awesome because his Beavis and Butthead chuckle fit the joke like…a glove…
any one notice the guy next to Marcia Clark changed at 2:48
Swapping between the live take and the dress rehearsal take. Something needed fixing for syndication I guess.
Good eye
The guy doesn't change, for some reason he breifly loses his wig. The actor is Mark McKinney the whole time though, you might know him from Kids in the Hall.
Ha ha, great observation!
That happened on an old Police Squad episode.
“You, whoever you are.” LMAOO
Edit: I think it’s meant to be bill hodgman 😭
Just now realize Tim Meadows had to play OJ and Cochran.
This needs millions of views 😊
I'm pretty impressed that a man of European decent successfully managed to pass off as Judge Ito long enough to be at the center of this skit.
When did Canada join the EU?
@@thehighhide “[D]escent”. Spelling error aside, words have meaning.
@@zplapplap I’m referring to the fact that Mike Myers is a canadian, not european. So pedantic spelling error aside it’s still incorrect.
@@thehighhide The comment to which you initially replied is, to me, a strange way of viewing the skit and Mike Myers’ role in it. But, here’s what you’re not understanding: Mike Myers’s is both Canadian and of European descent. This is where your attempt to correct fails. This isn’t difficult. Mike Myers is of European descent. Assertions to the contrary are objectively false. It’s not a matter of opinion. When a person’s ancestors are from Europe, then that person is of European descent. Mike Myers’ parents emigrated from England.
I replied in response to your error in either ignoring or failing to comprehend the meaning of “descent”. If you’re going to take the time to correct someone, then at least get it right.
@@zplapplap let’s just update it to “descendants of primordial slime” then. Sincerely, a man of african descent.
howd they get this camera in the courtroom, ito should be sacked
Irl the whole thing was televised
She nailed Marcia Clark ha ha ha
I did not realize until the last seconds that Mike Myers was in it.
you should see the sketch where he plays the japanese game show host
As a 20 year old watching and reading about all of this 25 years after the situation, it’s crazy to see that this trial was like a reality show, that anybody even remotely involved became a sort of mini celebrity, household names. Even the judge. The witnesses, prosecutors, etc. Seeing what Marcia Clarke went through on the FX show about this trial, I felt pretty bad. Ranting about her hair on daytime television? Who gives a fuck?
In a way it’s all very ridiculous, even SNL making jokes seems ridiculous, seems like pre-9/11 the country really just sat around twiddling their thumbs watching reality TV
Ya, what a different time. How could SNL, late night shows, and news outlets constantly cover one story like a reality show? It's totally unlike the seemingly never ending reality show that takes place in the White House on a constant loop.
We are truly more enlightened than those silly people from the 90s. Making our government the sideshow is definitely more appropriate.
@@Nickfitzpatrino
Perhaps my comment went over your head, that’s ok. It’s tough getting old. Go take your insulin or something, fucking boomer. I never mentioned the clown show that is politics.
this was the birth of reality tv. this introduced us to the Kardashians. back then we had only a few reality shows like Cops and The Real World.
@NEW YORK SPORTS FAN It's tough being young. You're so naive and ignorant. Go take your Ritalin, fucking millenial.
@@FunnyVideoMaker77 Yeah that's what we did we sat around twiddling our thumbs watching reality TV. Totally unlike today's youth. Stupid idiot.
I was just a toddler then, but it’s crazy to see how back then a trial of the murder of two people became a joke
It’s pretty sick actually
If prosecution didn't set up oj , it wouldn't be funny but racist justice system is the real comedy
It was a hot mess for sure. They completely forgot about Ron and Nicole.
It’s because of it being a Los Angeles celebrity tabloid case.
@@dancalvano8702🙄
This is the best lol
I been looking for this for years
My favourite documentary on this case is the absolutely brilliant OJ Simpson: Made in America. Puts the whole trial in complete context. Not being American, I never understood why the acquittal was so controversial. As a teenager casually acquainted with the case, I thought he was innocent and that's why he got off. As a young adult going into the facts of the case, I knew it had to be him and he got away with it because the prosecutors were dumb. Having seen Made in America, it's eye opening how the law and justice system is so easily manipulated and how it seemed for the first time that powerless people had a chance to make a point. However, that point was made at the expense of two innocent victims and I'm glad that the civil suit against OJ was successful.
"Chance to make a point"??? What are you talking about? What point shall that be, eh? It's ok to free a murderer because I like the color of his skin?? It's ok to go for payback for the crimes of other people?? ..Are you crazy?? Stop seeing color. That MF did it and got away with it, not only because he's a rich guy, but also because many blacks are just as racists as many whites are. But truth sees no color, no matter what dumb racists say. Racism is a two way street. Everybody knows he did it. The problem is that many people think it's ok.
Too real.
We're the dream team we took OJays money...
In exchange for getting him off the hook for murder. I'd say that's a fair exchange, wouldn't you? Lol
Hilarious
Why does mark mckinney's outfit and hair change part way though and then back again? I'm guessing parts were taken from a dress rehearsal?
Uhh it doesn't because that's Mike Myers, not Mark Mckinney...
@@tru3onthetrack672 I know who mike Myers is, I'm talking about MicKinney far right. watch at 2:48
Shrek you silly goose what are you doing up there
OMG!! Chris Farley, good actor....
As bailey
Eh not really. He was funny sometimes but not like hilarious funny. Likable sure and didn't seem like a bad guy but he wasn't really a good actor.
Good actor. Bad actor. Who cares? He steals every scene he's in, he's hilarious!
"As well as the Menendez brothers" 😂. For some reason this was a lmao moment for me.
They spoke to him in prison too
2:45
Chuck McGuill's first big case
Damn I was born a day before this aired crazy
damn, I watched it live.
1:25. I think that could've saved the trial if Lance had actually allowed it.
PAMELA ANDERSON!!
American Crime Story Deleted Scene.
The actress playing Marcia Clarke is hot!!!
Laura Kightlinger was quite a hottie back then! Interestingly, if you watch the goodnights at the end of each show during the 1994-95 season, at least three out of four times, she’s very well dressed, as if she’s going to a fancy dinner party afterwards.
Is that Mike Myers?
Yes.
Mike Myers
Was that austin powers
My god I miss Farley. ..so dearly...I've never wanted to be fat so bad...until I seen him...and maybe the old John goodman

Michael Mckean getting typecast as an asshole lawyer.
back when people still respected and watched snl
Snl is just as good now as it was then. Which is meh sort of okish.
2:38 - The guy on the right changes hair at 2:49
Wow… it’s a completely different guy. Weird
snl would never have the balls to broadcast such anti OJ pro woman rhetoric these days!
You do realize it's pretty much the Kate and Kenan variety show at this point right?
Kenan did an OJ sketch a few years ago when he got out of jail.
Lmaoo
Who else is here now?
They are really spoofing how bad Ito was as a judge in this trial
Couldn’t even imagine the feeling when your a family member of the victims
Lance shoes chaos I'll mportant Dwayne lance shoes dalmations fludd Allan ito chopping ninety million.
😷
This is gross. I saw this in The Life and Murder of Nicole Brown Simpson. I think SNL forgot two people were killed in real life and they are making dumb jokes about it.
Judge psychiatric Terry white respects you . Judge Carolyn Carrie mouzon Thompson. Upholstery respects flavor reliable .stiffness nothing .judge lance Allan ito.
Snl didn't have enough blacks for someone to be dardin?
Grow up!
666th like!
No Robert Kardashian in the skit? I thought for sure he would be in it being a friend/lawyer of OJ.
I never heard of him until Kim’s fucking tape came out!!! No damn recollection!
Kardashian didn’t make arguments in the trial. He was basically paid to be emotional support as sort of an “OJ Wrangler” and he reactivated his law license so their communications would be privileged.
@@jaredbellow Yeah, but he was still there with his other lawyers during the whole thing. He was still part of that history.
@@TheOfficialTarynTots Yeah when you know the actual story it’s funny how Shapiro got super famous off it but really didn’t do much either other than in fighting and undermining the team but he got super famous off it.
Robert Kardashian wasn’t hugely famous off the trial at the time, he was more of a minor character in the way the media portrayed it.
Judge Lance ITO damita jo Jackson janet
This was a pretty dark thing to joke about. 2 people were brutally deleted and people were just sitting around laughing about it.
That was so not funny 👾
it was contextually funny. You had to be there.
@@Averyofthemain Yeah, it's still not funny and disgusting to joke about something like this.
@@PostalOverkill it is funny, and if you can't joke about this you can't joke about anything, you're all a bunch of miserable, humorless fops---you do realize that the Compassion Fairy isn't going to leave a dollar under your pillow tonight, right?
Ito never had any of his own kids just like Fuhrman said maybe his wife did wear the pants in the relationship 😆. I don't like Fuhrman but defenitly was not his own man ito that is
Judge crowdamita crowpot crow Jackson Janet Jackson jo. Damita
Y’all bunch of softies lol
Yeah hey let's NOT normalize the audio on this clip!
I don’t get any of these references.
@Kevin Sabellico You would have to have been around at the time to get them. The Menendez Brothers were two Bevery Hills rich kids who killed their parents in order to inherit their money. William Kennedy Smith was a member of the Kennedy family accused of rape and acquitted. Marcus Allen was a football player and friend of OJ's. Marty Allen was a comedian who had no connection to the OJ trial. He was in this '60s when this sketch aired an had a bizarre hairdo that was his trademark.
@@vrinda5303 You’re awesome for explaining. Thank you lol, the 90’s sure were a different time i bet haha. Wish i was around.

I stand by my original comment. The sketch is cruel and insensitive.
Why did you think it so humorous? Really…tell me.
Oh, btw, bravo on your “baby” reply; such big talk.
Farley could never play it even somewhat straight. He always had to do the over the top obnoxious yelling and screaming bullshit
Cultural appropriation. Cancel SNL.
