Looking forward to the next vid about the Z06! I’ve got to rebuild my LS7 bottom end too. Titanium in the oil was 7ppm. Tons of metal in the oil drain pan. $$,$$$!!!
Get a set of forged rods since your just right there, then you’ll have a bullet proof engine. The ls6 crankshaft is good for 1000hp. Plus if you do power upgrades in the future you’ll have a solid platform.
The engine is 90% complete, so too late for forged rods. I decided against them to save some money and I didn’t read anything online about the factory ones being a weak link. I don’t plan on adding anymore power in the future, the most I would do is a bigger throttle body and intake to complete these bolt ones. For big power I’m planning on adding a C6 ZR1 to the collection in the future.
I think it was a combo of high temps and lean tune. Cylinder gets hot (#7 runs hottest as it is), then ring gap closes and breaks the ring land. I’m doing a couple things to prevent this from happening again.
Good plan...you may as well grab you a supercharger kit and forget about upgraded ported heads and shoot for 750 rwhp because, I promise you, you will get used to 480 quick and then if you decide to upgrade to a supercharger or preferably a turbo....you will have to spend more for another tune. I've been down the TT turbo road,650 rwhp, and then went with the Ysi and dynoed at 840. I wish I would have stayed at 650. Sometimes too much isn't as fun as traction
If this was a basic LS1 coupe, I would have went with an Iron 6.0L block and aimed for around 600 whp with a turbo. This car being a Commemorative Edition with less than 2000 cars on the road, I can’t bring myself to go crazy with it. At some point in the future I want to get a white C6 ZR1, that’ll be my big power car.

What do you think cause such a catastrophic piston problem???
Good to see you back... I love these videos... to the point & no crazy music...
