    I started to get confused when I was looking through the video record settings on my A6500 and saw 60M and 100M. I bought a SanDisk Extreme and hoped it will support it, because when I saw the specs it said: Min Write Speed: 30 MB/s.
    Your video really cleared this up. Thanks a lot- you put a lot of peoples worries to rest aha.

    Thanks for the video! I would say there is an advantage to buying a higher read speed card, and that's when it comes to copying the photos to your computer after shooting. You're quite correct that it has no benefit inside the camera, but cutting a half hour off your photo transfer time might mean a lot to some people's work flow.

    thanks for the video. Just traded up to a A6400 from a Cannon 700d. the memory card is only for HD. I was going to buy a extreme V3 3 card 128mb for £20, but and I am glad I watched your video all the way through...I have a Go Hero 7 and use a sandisk micro 128 V3 which films 4k in mp4 and H-Vec. So if I am picking this up right I can pop the micro into the adaptor and use it on the A6400 ? If This is true then once again thank you for such a informative video and very much appreciated. It was an eye opener for me to learn the 35 MB limit. So how does it cope with hi-burst raw shooting which it claims in a6500 to be around 200 shots before it slows down below the 9fps rate., where one raw pic usually is around 24-25 MB?

    • @Photonarmy
      @Photonarmy  7 лет назад +2

      The a6500 can do about 105-ish raws or a bit over 200 JPGs at 11fps before the buffer is full. At that point, the camera can only take pictures as fast as the buffer can spin them out to the card, so the rate goes way way down.

    Would it reduce the read/write speeds of the Micro SD-Card, if we have to use a Jacket/Adapter (looking like a big size memory card)?

    • @Photonarmy
      @Photonarmy  6 лет назад +2

      No. The adapter simply adds a tiny bit of metal so the pins physically match up, there are no additional electronics or anything, so there's no impact on speed.

    some cards are 60mb/s and say they support full HD. But on a 4k camera, e.g. the Panasonic G7 or G85, the camera will not allow these cards to record 4K video, only 1080p.
    So do you need a card to say 4K support?

    • @jeffello8787

      Like Sony cameras, Panasonics require a card that is at least UHS-I Class 3 in order to record 4k. If you have a card that is marked as UHS-I Class 3, but are unable to record 4k, the problem is the card (might be counterfeit). *Almost* everything I said in the video applies to Panasonics (at least the older ones) as well as Sony.

    I was told in my local wilkinsons camera shop that i need a minimum of 100mbps to shoot 4k video, but on the paper he gave me it says Extreme pro UHS -11 64 GB 280 Mbps.. Which has a low price of 100 UK pounds and can go up to 150 UK pounds.

    • @Photonarmy
      @Photonarmy  6 лет назад

      You're getting your b - bits and B - Bytes confused, and so is the camera shop. The UHS-II version of the Extreme Pro can sustain 260 MByte/s, which equals 2080 Mbit/s... almost 20x more than what you need for these cameras. The cheaper UHS-I cards, as noted in the description, are all you need.

      Tee New Because the ultra plus is only a U1 card, it may not work for 4k, but should work fine for 1080p. The write speed of that card is a little too close to the line so I wouldn't trust it to handle 4k reliably.

      Yes. All a6400 modes are covered by v30. Note that my advice on cards has changed over time due to changes in the manufacturing landscape. Today I would suggest the Sony or ProGrade cards. The E series Sony cards are a good value option with stable performance.

      No, the adapter is not intelligent, all the adapter does is make an electrical connection in the proper alignment so the pins of the microSD card match the pins of the full size SD slot. You incur no speed loss. Kinda like microusb vs USB - same wires, larger plug.

    How is it possible that the card I bought, a samsung evo 128gb microSDXC class 10 U3 write speed of 90MB/s, won't record 4k or 120fps HD in my a6500? It still tells me, "cannot record in this recording setting. switch to a UHS-I U3 compatible memory card." That's what I have! What is going on?? Is it the adapter??

      Counterfeit cards are a very real possibility.

      Yeah I'm familiar with those, and although it's a retail blister pack, I assume it can still be. I guess I'm going to have to try another one. It's frustrating though as I've seen a lot of others with the same issue. Seems these Alpha cams are picky.

      Did you format the card in the camera?

      Yes, and in the computer after that didn't work. I always format in the device I'm using a card in. The card has all the asked for specifications, but will not do 4k in 100m (it will do 60m), or 120fps in HD. I picked up a Sandisk Extreme Pro, and it works just fine on any setting. In fact, I found an old 16gb Panasonic card with the U3 symbol on it, tried it, and it works! It doesn't make sense, but it is what it is I guess. I'll stick to the Sandisk cards for these cameras!

      Thanks for the answer, and sorry for the dumb question. You even wrote a6300 in the Title of the video. I should have read earlier. Appreciate your time sir. Thank you!

      I know. I think in the video you said 1 of 2 things could happen. I was just confirming what did happen.

    nobody ever mentions Sony SD cards

      Quite true, however, the advice was good at the time it was given. Much has changed, so I would consider Sony and ProGrade to be my recommended brands, while others have fallen by the wayside. Should I ever have time to make more videos, this is one I would update.

    everything to do with filmmaking is so fucking confusing -_-

      This particular issue is more about the long-term impact of misinformation/dishonesty in the marketing of technology products rather than filmmaking. The confusion was engineered into the system long before cameras got involved. Things are slowly getting better... very slowly.
