  • Is it best to shop on yellow labels or just buy regular groceries 🤔
Sometimes yellow label food isn't the healthiest option .. so I decided to try to compare a yellow label shop with a regular shop!
Find out what I decided and how much I spent!

Wow, amazing food haul, just shows when you’re being mindful of your budget, you also have to be flexible. If there’s yellow label/ discount food, you have to buy it. 😂I love a cheese spread sandwich , especially seeded brown bread. Summer salad 👍👍👍👍💜

You do really well with your discount shopping. I'm from Idaho, USA and UK prices are amazing compared to what we pay here. (I miss seeded bread, but we can't get a loaf with seeds for less than $5 on sale here. The British pound is about $1.25 to give you an idea of the exchange!) We also buy many of our groceries at what some consider an "expensive" store. However, if you watch regular sales cycles, pick up discounts and plan accordingly we pay lower prices than the "discount" stores like Walmart.

I always thought things would be cheaper in the US .. I have family in various places over there and my parents lived in Canada.. I think our stuff might be cheaper but wages and salaries here aren't as high
I think its a great challenge getting a grocery shop down as cheap as I can 😆🙂

@@MoneyMadeMagic Until a few years ago, I felt we had some of the lowest grocery prices in the world. Things have definitely changed. Most name brand multi-grain or seeded breads are running $8 a loaf when not on sale! From what I understand your breads are higher quality, as well. They certainly look delicious! Idaho grows most of the potatoes in the U.S. Bags we used to get regularly for less than $1 now retail for $5 or more. I have noticed groceries tend to be cheaper in the Midwest U.S. Even though we aren't on the West Coast, we still seem to pay higher prices. I'm always on the hunt for discounts. Tonight we're having two chicken breasts, mashed potatoes, salad and roasted broccoli, cauliflower and carrots which would have cost more than $15 retail. Even with markdowns it is a "splurge" weekend meal, but cost us about $6.

@@gardencook123. wow thats certainly a lot for bread .. here most bread costs between 75p and £2.00 depending on type and grade ... our meat is expensive.. in a regular grocery store I'd expect to pay about £5 for 3 to 4 chicken breasts, around 80p for a broccoli and maybe £1 for some ready prepared salad .. so probably similar prices to you for that meal .. but those are our regular prices. Im guessing at discount prices that would be halved. x

@@MoneyMadeMagic Cheap, bread here starts around $2. The stuff you find for only a few pence is inconceivable to us -- especially for such nice loaves. If we watch for markdowns we can get plain, less-than-thrilling whole wheat bread for less than $2, but you have to be on the ball. It is about all we eat any more. Bagged, prepared salads retail for more than $4. It is getting hard to find them for less than $2 to $2.50 on markdown. We used to get broccoli for about 49 cents a pound in season, but it is hard to find it for less than $1.49 now. We usually end up with bagged, broccoli florets IF we can find them on markdown. I used to get a two-pound bag marked down to less than $2, but now that the bag retails for $6.50, I paid $3.50 on markdown the other day. The canned tomatoes and beans you get for pence versus pounds are items we can only remember fondly. House brands never go on sale for less than $1 a can. Name brands are closer to $2. On the other end of the spectrum, we used to only be able to afford asparagus for a couple weeks in spring, and now that it comes from all over the world it goes on sale for 99 cents a pound three or four times a year. 🤔

Loved the haul video, thank you. You got some absolute bargains. I generally always shop at Tesco. I'm okay w Lidl for certain things, but I wouldn't ever choose to shop at Aldi (I just dont like our stores).
I never seem to shop at the right time for yellow stickers. The storeworkers in our Tesco have to have a plastic guardrail around them when reducing the food as people dont take any care. During the day, the reductions on food aren't great.
What I need to do soon is to stop shopping altogether. I'm sure I could live for a month or more eating out my cupboards/freezer.
I stewed some old apples yesterday & then made a crustless quiche as the oven was on (I've frozen some slices). It was a bit wet w what I put in it & I overdid the chilli flakes 😮 but it is eatable.
Today, I baked 2 potatoes as I had the oven on, 1 to take to work tomorrow to have w a piece of quiche xx
