This is what I was taught when my families (3 different farmsteads between us) to find the best watermelons in each patch every year. Was almost never disappointed

Love your videos Alicia! You make shopping so much fun and it's so nice to watch and listen to your fun, caring approach to groceries for your family!
A few quick tips that my parents taught me...
My dad always told me to look for little black sap-like marks on the watermelon, which he called "bee stings".. apparently, they're indications that the watermelon is sweet because the sugar leeks out from the watermelon. Also, the yellowish sun spots on a watermelon are good too! It means the watermelon is full, so it didn't move around (like flipping on a tanning bed) while growing!
For onions, if you store them in a dry place with the little silica packets you get from packaged foods, the packets will keep your onions dry and preserved longer!
These are just family tips, so I can't guarantee their 100% accuracy, but they've worked pretty well for us so far! Have a great week Dougherty's!

Roughly 100.00 per person for 7 days of meals and snacks. 100 a week for 1 person is actually really good!! 14 bucks a day for 3 meals and snacks. To maintain the cold chain and freshness of your fridge/frozen items, if you want to shop them first, just ask the store to keep them in the walk in fridge/ freezer in the back while you get the rest of the stuff on your list. otherwise pick them up last.

Best way to pick out a watermelon has never failed me. Tap/pat the watermelons until you find one that sounds and feels hollow. The hollower and bouncier the sound the sweeter and better the taste. Think of like a soccer or basket ball when you tap on it. This technique has never failed me and I have been picking out watermelons for my family for ages. Hopefully this helps.😁😁

Yeah I love these videos! Your organization skills are top notch and super impressive. As others have said, your ability to keep all your kiddos happy by getting items that they individually like is just so thoughtful on your end. I could never remember everyone’s preference (let alone my own). I need to start using some of your habits! Have a great day, Alicia and family! ❤️
