The aftermath of the revolution lead to the formation of the United States of Indonesia (Republik Indonesia Serikat), later converting to a Republic (1950), but remained authoritarian until BJ Habibie became president over the Republic. 3. There was the annexation of Portuguese Timor (1975) and West Papua (1963), Timor Leste achieved independence in 2002 and several attempts and rebellions in West Papua occurred, unknown by popular Indonesian media. A funny story about East Timor: Suharto's invasion was greenlit by the US. All because they were still on that McCarthy fervor and was terrified that East Timor becomes communist. Remember that the US supported Suharto in the 1965, providing some names for the kill lists back then.

Being part indonesian I automatically knew where Bali is. But my friend told me she wanted to visited Bali one day. I said to her "oh! You can also visit other parts of Indonesia like Medan, java" and she said "Where's indonesia?" I...💀 I mean eventually she understood, but she genuinely thought Bali was a separate tropical island country. It goes to show how popular and touristy Bali is. But I wish other areas of Indonesia gets highlighted! There's so many places to visit and the history are all different depending where you go! Some of the information are wrong... indonesian actually fighting the allied force in east, US submarine and warship also seen in the war zone when indonesian force fighting the dutch. Indonesian independence is also not given by the Japanese, and actually we are fighting them, there are several "apology" from both dutch and japan gov later on.

I know the Chinese in Indonesia already recognized by the government, including their culture and the religion, the 1998 chaos were the sign when a normal human can act so different than it used to be. In school i was never told about all this, only about the colonial times. I really hope to visit one time. Some of the information are wrong... indonesian actually fighting the allied force in east, US submarine and warship also seen in the war zone when indonesian force fighting the dutch. Indonesian independence is also not given by the Japanese, and actually we are fighting them, there are several "apology" from both dutch and japan gov later on.
