  • I mapped out a float from Jim Lake Parking Area to the Knik River Public Access. All three of us were in Alpacka Packrafts. First we paddled across Jim lake, made a small portage to McRoberts Creek, connected to Jim Creek, and finally connected to the Knik River. Jim lake is a relatively shallow lake full of weeds, and is a large contrast to the very silty and cold water of the Knik .The River is fed by the Knik Glacier, which explains the water. The trip took us about 7 hours and 20 minutes, some of which was spent getting the video footage seen here. There are several places you could take out of the water early to shorten the trip, such as the Old Knik River Bridge. The map effects were made with Google Earth Studio, and the map animation with Adobe After Effects. I used a combination of my GoPro Hero 10, and DJI Mini 2 Drone to get the shots.

I cant say this enough. Your shot framing is SO GOOD. Those last couple shots of you drifting by, with the wet silt on the right and the blue water on the left..amazing. then the shot over the road, with the rafts appearing under the bridge. Not to mention airplane landings amd UNDERWATER PADDLE SHOTS. Gahh its so pretty. Your introduction with google earth and the path you took..i dont know how you did that but imma need you to show me. 10/10.

I appreciate it so very much, I put a lot of work into this one to try to make it the best I could. The fact that you noticed the details I tried so hard to incorporate, makes it worth the effort. Thank you so much for you kind works, they are very motivating.
In order to make the Map I used Google earth Studio, and Adobe After Effects. I followed the two tutorials below to get the concept down. My Google Earth Studio route didn't go in a perfectly straight line, so I also did some reading on how to dynamically move my mask to compensate for when my camera didn't progress at the rate I wanted it to. There was a lot of changing the speed in Davinci as well, but the two videos below should get you exactly where you need to be.
