i accidently found only 2 amazing channels on extreme vocals out there. it's this one and Chris Liepe. God bless both of you for the work you put into the topic
I can relate to the distraction part when you are talking about the jumping jacks to make your body relax. I can access way more tones/sounds when I am just mindlessly walking around making screaming noises than I can when I try and purposefully practice to recreate them.
Your lessons are so important for me, thank you very much, you're the only one on internet who explain very well and in a simple way. In two weeks watching your videos, I unlock my scream, I was not able to do it correctly in the past ten years. Thanks a lot you're the best teacher.
David, you are a true teaching genius! These videos are so incredibly useful and you communicate your lessons in a way that always helps me to progress and you pinpoint things I'm doing which sabotage myself. Surely I can't afford full lessons but if you've got a Patreon or some sort of subscription service where people can support this kind of content, please point me in that direction!
Thank you so much. We really appreciate the feedback. We don’t have a Patreon right now but we are going to be announcing something really soon that might be of interest! 😊
@@ExtremeVocalInstitute I Notice you always say 'We' and I appreciate your inclusivity of your team who we don't actually get to see. You are a stand up dude and your integrity is refreshing. I can't wait for the announcement.
Fucking totally! His communication is unlike any other. And with real excereises too. Not just meaningless chatter to prove he knows what he is talking about or selling his online courses.
as a "decent singer" who can't scream in a musical context but is really good at screaming when I'm angry (have serious anger issues) and want to produce some metal songs with screams, I'm interested in this channel
You articulate things so very well! I complately forgot that I was watching a video. It felt like I am sitting with you, practising together. Kudos to this amazing teacher! Also, you are so on point. Especially in fry scream I often confuse with throat tension, which results in a silenced low volume sound as you've explained.
I so so SO want to get back into metal vocals. I used to do them as a kid and was good - but I've got muscle tension dysphonia now. It's the last thing I need for my music, but I'm also a teacher and so it's a combination of things that I need to overcome!
I watch this video everytime I’m going to warm up😂 I literally remember how to do everything he says but I still put the video on anyway and do it along with him😂
I’m ALWAYS using this warmup to warm up my screams after doing my melodic warmup, when I feel like I wanna practice screaming when I vocalise. ALL the steps are SO WELL EXPLAINED! Thank you for making this video man, your really an REAL EXPERT when it comes to metal-vocal-related stuff!🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
I’ve been screaming for years (just for enjoyment never professionally) and have never had an actual warm up, this video is so eye opening! Will definitely be practicing your warm up techniques!
I have progressed so much from where I was from this video. An hour ago I was completely clueless but this gave me an actual foundation to build on! I never thought I would be able to scream at all. About 2 weeks ago I learned to use my diaphragm and could do only a short growl. I could barely pronounce words while growling. After just a few attempts at these warm up exercises I am going longer, pronouncing words/syllables easier and you just taught me how to fry scream. I also just sound better now. I am going to use this video daily for practice so thank you for these videos! You are helping me do something I have always dreamed of doing.
Watching your videos seems so weird to my brain to process at times. You explain and vocalize so calm while the overall feeling of your videos is very structured, informative and educational, then you demonstrate technique, do some vowels and it sounds like a fucking tank comes rolling through my wall, all while still looking super relaxed and kind... I love it :D
IIf I could I would give you a thumbs up for this video every time I watch it!. I use it to practice almost every day. Thank you very much through this video I have greatly promoted my voice!😎👍
Seeing you doing everything so relaxed makes me feel what have been doing is all wrong. It's like i have to push too hard. Sometimes my head aches too after long Sessions. Now after doing same thing for years I can't do it for more than an hour. Feel like I am all exhausted and can't hold on to the sound. Gonna try these exercises. Hoping to overcome the problems I am facing.
I’ve been wanting to get him to death metal screaming for the longest time now, thanks to you I’ve actually been able to start and have seen massive improvement within just a couple days! Keep making content man I love your shit!
Congrats on 70k!! And well deserved, I hope your channek continues to grow. You have been the greatest edition to guiding scream vocals since Melissa Cross. You are a master in your teachings. It's been great to watch and follow your journey over the years! Thank you #EVI
Bro bro! I think you have saved me musically. Over years, i found myself struggling from too much strain. Nearly threw in the towel but just seeing you pull this off as relaxed as you are, gives me hope I can do the same. Shot brother!
This was one of the most helpful videos that I've found on youtube! I'm female, and at 33 I got invited to replace a male vocalist in a.... Hmmm... I guess some form of grunge metal band? Like Nirvanah meets Megadeth with some Smashing Pumpkins, Pearl Jam and Ozzy (post Black Sabbath) peppered in. I've been singing for 27 years, and 20 of them mostly jazz oriented music. Though I listen to mostly Black Dahlia Murder, Arch Enemy, Testament, Therapy, Prong etc, this has been kak hard! I only have 4 months to get some grit into my voice (my band members say that my clear vocals are good enough, but it does not portray the agro type of style of music and lyrics in my opinion. And who the fuck wants to be "good enough" anyway?). After 3 months, Aliki Katriou has been a FUCKING GREAT help, and this video is just sealing the deal!!! You so perfectly help to bring everything together, and the way you lay it out and give examples with your own vocals are just tremendous. THANK YOU SO FUCKING MUCH MAN!!!!
Just got into doing vocals again after a hiatus. I do find it hard to be relaxed when screaming, as I tend to voice my voice. These tips are super helpful And I will use these for warm ups moving forward.
Would you please do a video on fleshing the sound out more? I’m able to get the fry/creeking door sound but making it meatier as you do is pretty troublesome for me? Your style of teaching is comprehensive and you seem like a rad dude! Thank you!
We cover that in this video! ruclips.net/video/rvQmyYR2k9Y/видео.html The fullness that you hear in David’s screams is due to how relaxed he is. If you’re finding that your sound is thinner it may be because your method of producing it is based on constricting and tension. Hope that’s helpful! - Rilee (Co-owner)
@@ExtremeVocalInstitute yo, this is now my go to video for warming up my screams. I watch it at least every other day, or every day I’m in the studio. Thanks for this awesomeness!!
in short dont try to imitate your favorite vocalist but do your own as you check how your vocal cords work :D i do hope we can hear a lot of new screaming vocals out of this
Hey man. I love the videos on your channel. Very helpful. I have a question regarding activating the false chords. You mentioned that if you learn to activate them with the "sigh" method, you need to be careful to not teach yourself to become dependent on the "wind" fealing to activate the false chords. I think that is where I'm at. I struggle to activate the false chords just by themselves, and need a bit more air to get them going. In this case, how do you unlearn the need for that "wind" feeling? And how do you learn to activate only the false chords and with minimal effort?
Feel free to drop a video in our Facebook community group and someone might be able to help you! If that’s uncomfortable for you, we have an entire course on false cord screams available on our EVI Now program and offer private lessons as well Group: facebook.com/groups/EVI.community/?ref=share Website: extremevocalinstitute.com

i seem to do this strange thing while attempting the fry sound where feel like im actually inhaling to produce the sound instead of exhaling. have you ever experienced this
Loved this video, I even recorded a guided warm up for myself using these exercises. I do have a question though, I use a lot of high false chord screams in my music, so should I do the same exercises with the highs as well for the shape, enunciated and elongate steps?
Hi there, if you think you’ve caused damage the first thing you need to do is seek out a diagnosis from a medical professional. In the meantime, take as much vocal rest as you can until you’re able to talk to a doctor and they can give you further directions.
"Screaming is just a heightened form of communication" ... I'll remember this for future conversions when ordinary communication fails.
