My false cord has never sounded so effortless. Please do not delete this, it's extremely useful. Thanks!
Hell yeah! That’s great to hear! 🎉
@@ExtremeVocalInstitute the only thing i didn't know quite how to follow was how you touched your neck, what exactly were you doing there?
@@masterleon40 looking for tension
@@ExtremeVocalInstitute very helpful, thank you
Take off the slave muzzle you absolute clown of a human being
You're willing to do the seemingly silly things which are actually vital to the survival of metal vocalists. I have a horrible confession... I don't warm up. It's stupid and ridiculous of me, I know. I've been getting a tad cocky and now I'm suffering for it. This is exactly what I needed. Just a full, legit warmup video I can work along with to help me get my mojo back. I'm gonna follow this everytime I scream for the foreseeable future. I don't wanna lose my voice. Thanks David!
You are definitely not alone! The important thing is to take what you’ve learned and adjust moving forward 😊
Couldnt agree more. Im just looking into it. I like doing impressions and such and just want to learn how to do metal vocals for my own gratification and amusement so I can add it to my mental collection of vocal abilities. But he for sure takes this seriously, as silly as it seems. To me this is the equivalent of using a specific phrase to get the right "voice" for an impression. A warm up in its own right for sure. Example, I say "Holiday Hooby whatty?" To get myself into Jim Carreys Grinch voice. It has enough range and vocal variety to nail down the different inflections and facial expressions. Hasnt failed me yet. Ill definitely be giving this exercise a try
I know this is a year later, just wanted to say I don’t warm up at all either and have been paying the price. This video is great!
@@magicth haha never too late to send a reply! Thank you for this comment! I still struggle with warms ups sometimes but I do them alot more than I used to and things have worked out pretty well for me! 💜
I been the same way. I've blown out my voice 5 different times because I wasn't warming up. Listen to these guys yall.
This channel deserves way more attention, this dude is like the Bob Ross of sounding like Satan. Oddly soothing, but brutal as fuck and with beautiful curls to boot lol
Accurate
Yes XD
He made it ✊
Satan isn't real
Been singing death metal for about 20 years, decided maayyybe I should start warming up 😬 did this today and holy fuck I’ve been missing out
How voice is not hurt?
after a few weeks of practicing on and off, my fry scream is finally coming together! thank you!
I'm usually not warming up like this, only for a minute or two clean singing and I was always losing 40-50% of my vocal capability after rehearsals or gigs, feeling my throat kinda swollen, but after warming up with the video, daaaaamn man, I am reborn, I'm finally not losing my vocals, scream without much effort and I'm not tight as usual. Breathing feels a lot easier and I'm not pushing as much as usual. Thank you!
That’s so great to hear! Thank you for sharing that with us! 💪
Lip roll 15 min, and then add grit etc. very gently
Hydrate or Diedrate! Lmao you're adorable!
😂😂
Have been in bands for 10+ years, recording multiple records, always ignored the warm-ups. This has been a game changer. No more sounding good 30 minutes into production takes. Great video, will be using this before every stu sesh going forward! Cheers!
Super helpful as always. I am not sure if you're interested in flexing on us but I am definitely interested in seeing you upload more performances than you currently do. If that's something you've been wanting to do, there's for sure an audience for it.
Our primary focus is on creating content that will help people! When David isn’t teaching we are either filming for our EVI Now program, David is working on his own music or we are doing behind the scenes stuff (planning, editing audio/video, etc.) and trying to get sleep occasionally so there’s not that much time to do more covers or “flex videos” than we do at the moment but this series will continue on so there will be more like this soon! Glad you enjoy the content! - Rilee (co-owner)
By far , this is the most useful warm up screaming ❤️
Still here, still using this exact warmup, because it's such an amazing resource. I love everything about how well you communicate, and how efficient your techniques seem, from my perspective
I also find that tongue trills or trilled Rs can help people warmup who have trouble with lip trills, like me lol
FYI, I nuked my previous YT account, SillyKelso, this is my new one. I'm not sure if it was evident, but I would imagine it's positive comments and welcomed or not lol
The lead singer of my band told me to watch this clip to keep my voice healthy on stage when I'm doing backing vocals. Super helpful stuff dude! In addition to warm-up routines, I learned a lot of simple techniques to use in my backing vocals from this clip :) Thanks for doing what you do 👊👊
yo, he said "weeuuuyyyyeeeaaaaaaaapp!" Gotta love this guy!! loloOLOL!
thank you so much for these warm up practice
Congrats on 70k!!! 💜
Great tips . You explain things in a way that makes it simple yet no matter what the type every detail brought out
This warm up helped me significantly. I had fun following along the way. Thank you!
Thank you so much for this. It’s been my go to warmup for all my last practices and shows.
Thanks! It helped me to warm up, just good! Definitely the best warm up on YT!
Truly gold!
End results are extremely satisfying my gosh!!!🤩🤩
Such a good warm up routine, really helped me out while learning!
I just want to say I'm thankful for your content, man! Definitely helping me and my vocalist journey.
It came through my algorithm, and I've loved it ever since.
Thank you, I use to be in a band many moons ago ever since leaving I need something to keep my vocals in shape, thank you once again.
Thank you for this, i do this everyday before tracking vocals and it always works like a charm, was used to 25 min warmups, this is 100 percent LEGIT people. Cheers from Mississauga Ontario Canada.
hell yeah! stoked this works for you!
Please never delete this I just found this video and it is great
OMFG U JUST HELPED ME GET MY FRY SCREAM IN LESS THAN AN HOUR, YOUR THE BEST!!!
I've been doing this warm up for about 4 months now and it's helped out a lot! Even for clean vocals it helps out a lot
very helpful to see people do the warm-ups themselves thank you
Was actually waiting so long for a video like this! Thank you so much for all the information you share with all of us in every video you put out!
Much love and gratitude!
Glad you enjoyed! 😊 Thanks for watching! This is going to be a series that continues
These warm ups are a game changer. My endurance just went up exponentially. Thank you very much :D

Amazing vocals exercises I’m definitely trying these out.Don’t delete this video I will definitely refer back to this video to help me when I practice metal screaming again.👍👍🤘🤘
Been using this to help me get more of a growl in little shop of horrors as the plant. Love this channel
Just watching your vids make me wanna train and learn this stuff even more....I always wanned to be able to make my own vice recordings to my music....you are a gift sent from above
Never knew I could make such sounds until I started watching the videos on this channel. Many thanks!

Another amazingly helpful video! This information is so valuable, it doesnt matter how long or how good you are at screaming, follow these tips and you will make progress!
Glad you think so! 😁 We appreciate the kind words
thank you very much for this type of video, its just perfect for us to practice it well, thank you
Thanks for watching! 🙏
Seriously impressive, I’m trying to get better and this is so helpful
Vocals are fucking beast dude!! Gonna start doing this warm up and breathing exercises everyday. Hope Eventually I can scream in no time! Thankyou for your teaching
how is "in no time" going ? :)
@@dynatwenty for death vocalist in no time is usually summed up to 5 years and can continue up to another 10 years if you are one of the lucky ones
I’m just beginning to sing, and this helps me.
Ma ma mA MA blegh!
You’re amazing and an inspiration to us all.
Keep up the awesome videos!!!
your lessons did wonders for my voice, ofc, more than 15 years of screaming did help a lot, but after a while, i realized the things i was doing wrong all this time and how much i was pushing for no reason at all when it was there in front of me the whole time. these lessons you give here are INVALUABLE to those who know how to listen and actually apply your immense knowledge. thank you for existing from the bottom of my rotten heart David, you're The Shit.
Damn this is awesome! Thank you
Thanks for watching! 😊
I do this every day now and a massive improvement in my prep time. I used to not remember how until music starts oddly.
Wow, I’ve been learning how to scream for the past year and I just achieved some sounds I never thought I’d be able to. Thank you so much for sharing this
Congrats on 80K!
Wow, this is really cool! Thank you!!
This is the best reoccurring revenue ever 😅 I’m watching this practically daily for practice
Congrats on 70K!!!
Very grateful for this!! Still having trouble getting the High fry but getting more relaxed each time I do this practice.
Hi David!
I want to thank you so much for all of your helpful tutorials. I'd written a metal viking musical and have been trying to put together a pitch album, but whilst in lockdown (I live in England so we're currently in a second one!) I challenged myself to learn how to growl, so I could lay down vocals on the tracks myself.
Not only have your tutorials really helped me to learn how to scream safely and consistently, but having had no singing training before, even the act of following the melodic part of the warm ups has made my natural singing voice ten times better!
So thank you. If we ever get the musical funded I'd love for you to be our casts vocal coach :)
That’s super unique and cool! Thanks for checking in and letting us know. We’d love to hear more about the musical when you get closer to having it good to go.
Glad to hear that the content has been helpful and that you’ve seen improvement in your screams! Thank you for watching 😊
@@ExtremeVocalInstitute Will perhaps be in touch in the new year! Until then I'll be screaming responsibly :D
I have done this warm up so many times as I'm sure most of us who use this video have.
It is actually the only good metal vocal warm up I've found. Each of us dedicated screechers has probably done this 100s of times.
9:55 is the only part I hate doing, I try to muffle the sound with a pillow whenever anyone's home it's so annoying. But I do it, and you helped me get a monstrous high scream (without hurting my voice) so thank you very much for that.
You are going to be a resource pointed to by great future metal acts if not already.
The way I knew what part you were talking about immediately 😂
I am a choir student and I have been for years so I am quite used to warming up for clean and full vocals, and yet I never warm up when trying to train my unclean vocals. I will be using this video, thank you :)
Wait? The warm ups are different depending of type of vocal you are singing?
@@Isaiflamand they can be! Typically I start off with the basic clean warm-ups though. After that, I'll move to slowly warming up my scream!
Awesome as always
Thank you so much, as always!
EVI user here - really good to see a full warmup demonstrated.
One thing I was hoping to get clarity on - at around 14:40, David converts that basic fry into the fully fledged fry scream. I know the advice is to 'stand up' into the fry rather than 'sit down', but I'm struggling to fully grasp that concept and how it should feel.
Any other pointers, cues, or advice on what it should feel like?
The fry scream is one of the most misunderstood and difficult to achieve sounds, and a lot of the time it takes trying different approaches to see what sticks. Getting the initial distortion can be achieved by letting yourself sing through a voice crack and focusing on the fry-like distortion when it comes. From there it’s using that focus to increase the amount of distortion sound and projecting it at a target in your field of view to give your body something to lock onto. From there you can let the sound and intensity of it build naturally rather than through extensive physical effort. Give that a shot and over time that should do the trick! If you feel you’re still having trouble after some time, you can always feel free to get in touch with us directly and we’d be happy to help you!
@@ExtremeVocalInstitute That's great, thanks for the detailed response! I'll stick with it to try and cement the fundamentals to see if the sound starts naturally building - thanks again for putting together such fantastic resources
So many people find this to be silly, but don't realize just how important it is to do so. Thanks for the tutorial 🤟
You’re just talented on another level my dude
much appreciated 🙏🏽 thank you for watching!
Congrats on 80k 🎉
How many of ya’ll are doing the “hydrate or diedrate” as well?? 😎😂
Thanks!
It's even difficult for me to make that purring with lips. Much needed this one!
This is some very unique asmr😅 listening to this while I’m working
Congrats on 70k!
Super awesome!
those hand movements actually help me considerably
I was surprised what I was able to pull off on the first try
Thanks so much 🤘🤘🤘
congrats on 80K!
this video helped me record the vocals for my debut EP. I don't know if I could have finished it without your guidance.
Thank you!!
As usual super useful video
You are awesome dude. Natural teacher. I wish someone like you was available here in my shithole town.
Thanks for the kind words! 😊

Tysm for this my false cord has never been better❤
You have no idea how much I appreciate this now I can make scary noises in the basement whenever unwanted guests come over
I just commented on another video: but this is probably the most important one to me!!!!
love you, btw this video has help me so much thank you
Damn man this was extremely usefull, now I can train fry screams moduling my voice without putting to much effort on my voice, thank you a lot! Already sucribed!

Best teacher
“congrats on 80K!”
OMG ITS KORN 17:58
(love this warmup, it really helps to wake up)
i evaded doing warmups for a long time started few days ago i hope i will be able to scream for a long time and get way better
Holy undertones batman! It seriously sounds like your layering vocals towards the end.
Thank you so much for the Video. It helped me a lot for a better performance. Btw 18:00 "bulletappa" is my favorite.😂
Brother I am struggling so hard, I used to sing but after 3 years I just can't project the vocals I used to, I messed up my vocals using all the diaphragm pressure and now my throat is really sore and either i can't sing with my head voice it's kinda stuck now all i can do is guturral if possible, even my guturral's is messed up and my voice cracks up all the time. I really miss my old voice and technique I had no problem to sing fry or false chords or guturral's but now it's all gone and soon I know they'll kick me out of the band but i wanna say thank you for your lessons. 🙏
Cool song bro
Recently got into this type of music usually a musical theatre so this type of warm up is not completely strange to me after RENT but it's got key differences
12 mins I sound possessed lol okay pure zombie vibes this is awesome
My neighbors hate me
😂
Same here!
this video relaxes me
What’s being relaxed like? 😂 But seriously that’s awesome, thanks for watching
I have started my practice today. The last few exercises seem really intense for me at this moment. Do you have any suggestions or advices David? Is practicing this daily enough to reach that level later? What all does this warmup help in improving in general? Also, do you have any warm-ups for eliminating voice crack?Really enjoy your tutorials. Keep going!
I just learned that drinking warm or room temperature Arizona tea helps loosen up the vocal chords. I've been doing it for awhile and I've seen improvement. Especially for metal vocalist like me or anyone who sings.
Which flavored you recommend
Starting as a singer, I've gotten pretty decent at fry screams but false chord has been very illusive. I'm so used to using my true chords for everything. It's so hard not to engage them. I absolutely blew my voice out out of frustration... I'm taking 5 days off, coming back with your warmup and being more careful. I don't want nodes.
Hi David, someone has heard my first attempt in metal singing (and I've done first project in my life as vocal duel) and said I have a talent. Because I have never sung before and have no comparison, I don't see it. There is an opportunity for me to be a metal vocalist but I want to learn how to do it all and start properly preparing and exercising my voice for what might to come. And there is my question: is it normal for me to feel my vocal cords during a warm up? Shall I warm up always breathing from the bottom; diaphragm? Do u think Ur above video is the right one for such an newbie like me? 😆 I just don't know where to start and be the best version of myself in future.
warms ups!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! fuck yeah! 🔥🤘
16:00--- my dog every time someone comes to the apartment
LMAO
I will study the heck out of this i been prwcticing for once I feel comfy using exhale lows and gutterals. Im working on pig squeals. But sadly i dont have a proper warm up i truly hope i can do the warm ups right and pracrice the songs i wrote.
The screams you did at 16:20 are incredible! Are the layers I'm hearing overtones? These are false cords with vocal fry layered over the top? Whatever it is it sounds absolutely monstrous. Some people may say it sounds demonic but I think it sounds like the wounded growling of a wild animal. The kind of animal I'd run away from swiftly. The kind of animal you won't find in a zoo.
I believe it's just tongue and mouth shape making the dirty evil sound on the scream.
Also look at the size of that fucking tongue
thx
