    I'm a fairly new chicken mama (close to 10 months now). I had to do this with one of my chicks. I actually stuck her butt into the warm water trying to soften the poop, very stressful for us. It all turned out great and she's a happy, healthy adult.
    Recently I had an adult with this issue, I had to cut the poop off of her....certainly very stressful for me. Again, it all turned out well and I am becoming a better, more experienced chicken mama!! YAY! :)

    What duck breeds would you recommend for a small garden? As I want grass that’s not all eaten lol and great video. 👍

    • @WelcometoChickenlandia
      @WelcometoChickenlandia  3 года назад +1

      You could possibly go with a bantam breed or a “light weight” breed like mallards, appleyards, or Muscovy. Ducks are generally less destructive than chickens but eventually you may want to shield your garden from them as they might trample the plants or eat them if it's a variety they like!

    I hope there's a chance you see this❤ I have a baby chick who is separating itself from the other chicks, but also following the momma around a lot. It stays in one spot and watches, then will snap out of it and follow the momma. The chick looks like shes trying to poop but only a small amount oozes out. There's a hard piece below her vent and Im not sure what it is (I just saw a vid that they have "belly buttons" and that's what it reminds me of...the hard pc of dried umbilical cord on babies). I also felt under and between the legs and it feels like a harder bump-out....not sure if its excess poop? This is a chick the momma hatched. The chick is 5 or 6 days old. I don't want to loose the poor thing but not sure what's wrong! The vent looks clear. Any help?

    New subscriber here- Been binge watching for a week now. Got my first chicks this am. One was not quick to eat so I used your tea solution a couple of times and it seemed to work well. Now I notice her neck is turned to the left more than 90 ° and unstable. Do you have any videos on wry neck? I can't seem to find one. I am giving the electolytes which has Vit E but I'd Iove to see your advice in a video.

    • @WelcometoChickenlandia

      Welcome to Chickenlandia! So happy to have you as a new subscriber. Unfortunately, I don’t have a wry neck video (yet). I’ve been thinking about posting a blog about it but haven’t been able to yet. Vitamin E deficiency can be a cause, as well as Thiamine deficiency, injury, or genetics. I am not a veterinarian and of course your best course of action would be to seek vet care. But if it were me, in addition to offering vitamin E and Selenium (necessary for absorption of vitamin E), I would also take her off medicated feed if she’s on it because it contains a medication that is a thiamine mimicker and can cause or exacerbate wry neck.

    • @WelcometoChickenlandia
      @WelcometoChickenlandia  3 года назад +1

      Very gentle massage of the neck can also be helpful.

      @@WelcometoChickenlandia I am so grateful that you answered. I will get right on that. I will hand feed every few hours until I see her eating on her own steadily. She stubbles to the food and gets trampled by the others.

    Do you have any videos on how to treat wry neck in baby chicks?

    • @WelcometoChickenlandia
      @WelcometoChickenlandia  3 года назад +1

      Not yet. Wry neck can be caused by a few things but the most common is a vitamin deficiency, either Vitamin E or Thiamine. I would look for a supplement for chickens that has all of those and start dosing ASAP. Of course it would be best if you could see a veterinarian. ❤️🐥❤️

    Help, I am a new chicken lover. I have 46 hens and I understand that a hen needs approx .25 lbs a feed a day from other channels I watch. But I have yet to understand if that amount applies to free range. They have about an acre of land to forage. I have switched to all whole food and getting great egg production but for finance sake could I be giving them more than they need?

    • @WelcometoChickenlandia
      @WelcometoChickenlandia  3 года назад

      Is it a raw mash feed? With grains and fines (powder)?

      @@WelcometoChickenlandia It is rolled oats, spilt peas, flax seeds, corn, millet, sunflower seed. We tried oats grouts nd they would not eat it. I even cooked it. We also give then kitchen scraps and I grind up egg shells. I also periodically give them sprouts. I would let them free feed but that would get so expensive. With 46 layers I got 40 eggs yesterday.

    Hi!!! I have a couple of pasty butts in my new little flock-- how do you tell the difference between pasty butt and just a little dirt? Should I ferment food in addition to water with electrolytes (in addition to the medicated chick feed that 4H told me to use)? or is that too much on their little systems? thank you!!!!!!!

    • @WelcometoChickenlandia
      @WelcometoChickenlandia  3 года назад

      If you are going with medicated feed, I would make sure that’s the majority of what they eat. You could give them a tiny amount of fermented feed but you’d have to make a teenie batch!
