  • Coming in to this game in late March commentators Pete van Wieren and Dick Versace joke about how Nique should compete with Jordan for the scoring title of the 1992/93 season. Well, this wasn't a bad effort to do so by Wilkins as he goes for 48 points against the Portland Trail Blazers. Nique does his magic the way he usually does it - coming off screens and then going one on one with his defender to make acrobatic layups or floating jumpshots. March 29, 1993.

    To think that he was still this good, after his achilles injury the season before, and being almost 33 years old...very impresive. He showed his whole repertoire on this game.
    Thanks for the upload.

    This was after his Achilles tear... Very efficient 48 pts and still a GREAT player after that injury...Kobe couldn't come back from that injury and still play at a high level

      Lol Kobe was getting back slowly from his former self after his Achilles injury, until another knee injury happened to him. After that he was never the same.

    Somebody here mentioned Kobe. Dominique was more powerul than Kobe with bettet body control. Likewise, defenses couldn't draw a charge on Nique unless he got nervous. If he only had Jerry West as his GM.

      They're not the same class. Dominque is nowhere close in ALL TIME GREATS discussions. Kobe at least gets into the discussions. Also, you can call him Ominique Wilkins because he didn't play any D. Lastly, Jerry West had his chance and passed on him. He went with James Worthy.

      Kung The only reason Nique isn’t near the top of people’s ranks is because he never made it to the finals. But skill wise he’s one of the all-time greats. If Dominique had another dominant teammate he would have a ring.

    u are totally right...nique and hawks had the chance to win a ring...next year when mj retired,hawks had the best record in west and 2nd best to nba but they trade nique for manning...one of the worst trades ever!it was maybe the only year when nique had good teamates with him...willis had very good season,the same for mookie blaylok but in playoffs w/o nique...

    Wow, even though I was almost four when this game was played, I must admit that Dominique Wilkins was still a very good player this late in his career, especially after the Achilles Tendon that he suffered the year before. If the Hawks didn't trade him the next year, the Hawks would have at least two or three rings.

    Tore his achilles 9 months prior to this and was still able to come back and drop 30ppg for the season. I believe in Kobe to come back just as strong as Wilkins did.

    they were and still are one of the worst run franchises in pro sports. nique for manning when they have the best record in the east? passing over chris paul, luol deng, and rudy gay to take marvin williams, josh childress, and mr. candace parker? no wonder folks there gave up on that team and started rooting for the stars on the opposing team. you can only take so much abuse for so long...

    • @KungFuMojo
      @KungFuMojo 6 лет назад +2

      Not quite. If he was Jordan, they'd find his Pippen. Played little defense. I'd say the modern equivalent, not in terms of style, but ability to score a lot would be Tracy McGrady. Wilkins was pure old school small forward. His job was one thing and one thing only, put the ball in the whole.

    It's always great to see Clyde Drexler vs Dominique Wilkins at the Atlanta Omni. But Clyde was the. better all around player. And the Blazers generally had better teams.
