Very nice tips, I think I've done that mistake with one of my colonies before. This haven't been talk by others but I believe happening on most newbies. Thanks as always D! Great job!
Wow! Comment from the 2nd member of the channel, I appreciate the support buddy. We'll be announcing the plans we have for the funds we'll get from channel memberships on the next vid, stay tuned! 🙏
Как всегда видео радует. Приятно смотреть как у тебя все хорошо получается. Продолжай так же. Удачи! Обидно что народ смотрит и не оказывает поддержку.
After seeing ur video and ants Canada videos I got inspired to have my own ant farm.i caught a single carpenter ant queen 4 months ago now I am keeping them in a fish tank diy ant house. Love ur videos man keep it up.
Wow great video as always d colony! My carpenter ant queen had its first three nanitics and my destructor ant queens hatched out lots of nanitics too so i need a formicarium
Also i have a question, Is putting different testubes together in one container (tubs and tubes) still as good as a formicarium? Or are there any other alternative for a formicarium for carpenter ants?
abc.ph/products/tiling-bonding-solutions/tile-grout-original/ I used the sanded type buddy, this is their official website but I buy on a local hardware near my place.
Like what food buddy? I only feed feeder insects mostly, meat, fish and other stuff occasionally for protein. For carbohydrates I feed most of the time sugar water and honey, occasionally fruits.
The nests are amazing no wonder why it took extra long time you made alot of them Edit: forgot about rearranging of the ant room when will we see ants living in the diy nests
Amazing build buddy! 👍 I want to build a similar brick style formicarium but I'm worried the water won't last very long. How long can the water last with one hydration? Ideally I want to make it last 1 month at least before needing to add more water... How may ml do I need to make the reservoir?
Install a water tower buddy if you want a long lasting reservoir. Check out flat grout nest build. This nest should be watered once to twice a week depending on specie using it.
Mr d colony will you open a shop to sell diy nests ? I would love to buy a nest from you because they are a masterpiece Edit: also when will we see ants living in the diy nests would love to see em live in your home made nest
Maybe one day buddy, it's my dream to be able to at least sell some for extra bucks. 😁 Maybe a month or two buddy we'll be moving colonies into them if all goes well.
Honestly super helpful video… I can live with ai low level generated voice, but for the love of GOD, please stop have that generated voice to say “buddies”. I cringe so hard my body hurt, but seriously super helpful and well made video. I appreciate a lot… just buddy stop it with the buddies 🙏
You can also search online buddy, don't use water resistant. If you can find sanded grout the better but normal one works too just add sand like we did on the vid for better water absorption.
I usually used sanded grout buddy as they had better water absorption, i haven't bought sanded grout yet so I mixed fine sand to the normal grout to make it absorb water well.
You can do that but it depends if you want to be able to see into the nest and observe their behaviour. As he says in the video, the ants will always use the dirt to block the light, and your view, through the glass.

That is an awesome news buddy! 🫡, Be ready for the destructor ants they are one of the hardest to contain, if not the most.

So nice of you too buddy! 🫡
Amazing nest builds! Can you send a link to the exact tile grout you use please? Thank you

HELLOOOOOOOO
Yo buddy! 🫡
What escape prevention barrier do you use?
I mostly use PTFE fluon, and olive oil buddy.
What was your first ant you collected and also what was that ant species you showed first and second in the video
The first one was anochetus buddy, they look like mini trap jaws. The 2nd was carpenter ants in a founding cup with cocopeat substrate.
Ok
What kind of mortar can I use other than the mortar you used?
You can use plaster of Paris, or just normal concrete mix with Portland cement buddy.

In an old video didn't you sell some to someone ?
Can i use modeling clay instead of dirt or sand
I've seen some used it, but never tried myself buddy.
New video yaa

Hi
Hello buddy!
What is this cream what you make on the glass the ants no going out 😊
If you mean on the outworld or feeding area, it can be PTFE fluon, olive oil or even a mix of baby powder and alcohol buddy.
@@Dcolony thank you

Where can you find grout powder?
Hardware stores usually carry them. Stores that mainly sell tiles have them 100% of the time.
@@morkyness water resistant ones wouldn't worl right

Can't you just make it fully sand/dirt and let the ants figure out the layout?
But with that setup you won't have a clear view of the whine nest
You can do that but it depends if you want to be able to see into the nest and observe their behaviour. As he says in the video, the ants will always use the dirt to block the light, and your view, through the glass.
