I have a microphone icon, the microphone appears in messages when I try STT but the microphone has an x next to it!! Can't get it to go away. I get the spin of death in the text area.... I have to backspace to clear the field. I can use microphone on every other app...just not messages. Whazzup? Frustrated beyond belief. HELP

Enable Dictation is not an option on my iPhone 15 Pro under the same general settings > keyboard menu.

The microphone on the keyboard on my iPod Touch 7th Generation does not work in Voice Memos, Notes and Reminders. I really like the microphone instead of having to use the small keyboard. Any ideas would be appreciated. I did try the suggestions in the video. Thank you.

They have made the microphone button so small now! Used to be able to press the EQ/waveform/frequency to end dictation; now I gotta hit the tiny button 😢

I just found the answer that might help others. Instead of tapping on my wife's icon to send her a message, I typed in her phone number - this brought up the microphone under the keyboard as well as the microphone in the text box. So I sent her a message using the mic - all worked well. So then I tried using her icon and it was back to normal! I closed out of iMessage and went back in and tried it with everyone else - no more voice recording icon - just the microphone! So try typing a phone number of a friend and see if that works for you!

unfortunately none of that worked. I have the voice memo icon instead of the microphone icon. running 17.5.2 on an iphone 12 pro. i was having problems initially with speaking in English and having it type in German and then I would set it back to English and talk again and it would start typing in German again. So I deleted the various foreign languages I had installed. Still no microphone icon, just voice memo icon
