    1. There is a rock of Master Hand holding a coin with the Smash logo in Robobot.

Also, Haley the blue hedgehog enemy from Amazing Mirror is a REALLY interesting case! Their name in Japanese is "Hari" from the word "harinezumi" - hedgehog. The fact that they're blue and move at high speeds means that the obvious Sonic reference was probably intended from the start, but the translators either missed this original meaning or made a super clever localisation choice and picked "Haley" instead. We might never know, but it's a fun one to examine!

    • @TornaitSuperBird
      @TornaitSuperBird Год назад +2

The Haley name is a direct transliteration of the Japanese name, but it also works in that it's a reference to Haley's Comet.

    • @Electrosa
      @Electrosa Год назад +15

@@TornaitSuperBird It's not. Haley's name in Japanese is ハリー, which is transliterated as Harī (with an extended "i", I was too lazy to grab the macron in my original comment). Foreign words are written phonetically in Japanese, which means that "Haley" is written ヘイリ - or "Heiri" in English letters.
This is all moot anyway, because Halley's Comet actually already has an official spelling in Japanese, and it's ハレー: "Harē". So it's clear from this, and the fact that Haley's names in other languages reference it being spiky, that the Halley's Comet reference was something that the localisers chose to do. That's why I said it was clever - all the groundwork was already there, and anyone who doesn't speak Japanese wouldn't know the actual joke behind the name.

Yo-Yo is also a huge EarthBound reference, before ESP was even a thing! Not only is Kirby wearing his Ness-like cap again and using a yo-yo as a weapon, but Yo-Yo's UI icon uses the same background as EarthBound's "Your Name, Please" section. This is a topic that deserves its own video, really, but the Kirby and MOTHER series are actually considered sister series! About Samus appearing in Kirby's Dreamland 3, in Super Smash Bros Melee's Adventure Mode, after clearing Brinstar and escaping from it before the planet self-destructs, the players immediate escape plan is to head to Planet Popstar, as shown in a cutscene. So I guess it's plausible that Brinstar and Popstar are close enough that Samus may be able stop by on a somewhat regular basis, and that she and Kirby have proabably crossed paths on their intergalactic travels multiple times outside of Smash.
Also, can we just talk about how many references to Smash there are in Kirby and vice versa? Between everything mentioned here, a bunch of Kirby themes being remixed for certain modes in Melee, the overall mechanics and controls of Smash and 2D Kirby, Kirby equipping the Ness hat whenever he uses one of the latter's moves (Yo-Yo, EPS, Baseball Bat, etc), even some Subspace and WoL boss attack patterns, it's insane how much overlap there is between the two series. Like sure, they were both created by the same guy and company, but the sheer amount of people who still boldly state that Smash is a Mario game more than anything to this day is astounding.

And even though it isnt directly anchored to some linked term or name, a reference to that same era of anime/manga 1970s classics is that the original Dark Matter, (and so many many other nigh identical anime/manga and videogame bosses) is cery likely an homage to GeGeGe no Kitaro's super iconic big boss, Backbeard/Buckbeard. There are a few more references to Smash in the Kirby series. In Meta Knightmare Returns, a Subgame in Planet Robobot, Meta Knight could use Dimensional Cape. His Final Smash in SSBB and SSB4. And from RTDL onward, every time he's been playable (aside from KBR), he's been able to perform Shuttle Loop. His recovery in Smash. And from Star Allies onward, Dedede has used Gordo Throw (his Side Special in SSB4 and SSBU) in every one of his bossfights. And in KPR, if you use Smash Kirby's Stone move, there's a chance he'll transform into a golden statue of Master Hand clutching the Smash Logo. Oh, and speaking of Master Hand, the little hand that always appears in Kirby's game overs have been called "Master Hand" in the game files ever since RTDL.

it's not ambiguous. there are a lot of actual straight up anime references in kirby. Lot of Evangelion references in enemies and concepts (and the beta version of Double Needle in 64) and Goriath was just goku

Just a small correction, while I'm not sure it's called Force Blast in it, Fighter has the same 3 level charging projectile in Kirby and the Amazing Mirror (no command input at this point though) which was made by HAL

That name is fake because there is no suck name for any of the Kirby sub-games, unless you can give is the actual name of said game because the only games i can find in both titles are:
      Squeak Squad:
      Speedy Teatime
      Smash Ride
      Treasure Shot
      Returns to Dream Land:
      Ninja Dojo
      Scope Shot
      Amazing Mirror:
      Speed Eaters
      Crackity Hack
      Kirby Wave Ride.

Meta Knight's Classic Mode should've been fighters that have been referenced in the Kirby series, referencing the retread stuff in Meta Knightmare modes.
1: Mario, Luigi, Peach, and Wario in the Boxing Ring, referencing Spring Breeze.
2: Samus and R.O.B. in... Battlefield? Referencing their appearance in Dream Land 3.
3: Captain Falcon and Donkey Kong in the Great Cave Offensive
4: Ness in Dream Land, referencing how Ness is unlocked in SSB64
5: Marth and Roy in the Fountain of Dreams, referencing their association with the stage back in Melee.
6: Link(green cap) and Ryu in the Colosseum, referencing the Copy Ability references.
Boss: Master Hand and Crazy Hand on the Halberd, referencing Amazing Mirror.
Dedede's Classic Mode would be fighting villains in unfitting stages, referencing Dedede's redemption and how this king is oddly associated with Boxing Ring.
1: Dark Meta Knight on Final Destination, referencing Dedede Tour.
    2: Bowser on Rainbow Cruise.
    3: Ganondorf in Great Bay.
4: Ridley and Wario in Jungle Japes, with Donkey Kong as an ally.
5: King K.Rool in the Boxing Ring.
6: Monochrome Dedede in the Boxing Ring.
Boss: Marx, who claimed to be redeemed in Star Allies.

The _Yuyuki_ cameos in _Dream Land 2_ and _3_ seem a lot bigger than the other _Dream Land 3_ cameos. I assumed there had to be overlapping staff, but cross-checking the staff members listed on the respective Wikipedia pages, none of the staff of _Yuyuki_ worked on DL2 or DL3, except Miyamoto as producer. Wonder why they were so fond of it?

I'm not sure if you read comments from your older videos but at 17:09 when you were talking about the references in the revenge of meta knight I'm a bit disappointed how you didn't mention that the song was a not so subtle reference to The House of the Rising Sun

Kind of surprised you didn‘t mention that Yo-Yo is also a Mother reference. The icon in Super Star even has the same background as Earthbound‘s File select
Also the Mages that give Kirby the Mirror ability look a lot like the Black Mage from Final Fantasy
