There's a timeline where Meta Knight accomplishes his goal of becoming the most powerful warrior of all. That timeline is called "Super Smash Bros. Brawl"
I think Meta Knight isn’t as power hungry as you said. He wants to better himself, and reach his full potential. That’s why he trains relentlessly. He wants to beat Galacta Knight because if he could, he could finally rest assured that he had achieved his pinnacle, becoming the greatest warrior of all time. In squeak squad, he’s trying to prevent Kirby from making a huge mistake, because he probably didn’t know Kirby thought the chest had his cake in it. MK figured that Kirby just thought it would be cool to unleash Dark Nebula, because that makes more sense to him than Kirby going on a rampage over some cake. In Return to Dreamland, MK probably thought, “yeah I’ll go to a distant world with these guys, it’s not like I have anything better to do and maybe there will be some strong opponents”. In Star Allies, probably the same thing, and in Robobot, he straight up was just trying to stop a planetary invasion. I think at this point, his faction, the Meta-Knights, are officially allied with Dreamland, and MK is on good terms with it’s ruler Dedede. In earlier games, his interest in Dreamland probably stemmed from the fact that Kirby lived there. Kirby, likely being from the same rare species as him, would catch Meta Knight’s attention. He agrees to help Dedede with the Star Rod so he can observe and test Kirby, and possibly see how he handles the encounter with Nightmare. In the amazing mirror, he again wishes to see what Kirby can do by giving him the Galaxia sword. In Super Star, I think he was trying to remake Dreamland which he saw as weak, and likely a hinderence on Kirby. He wants to refine Kirby so that he can someday take MK’s place as strongest warrior so he can better protect Dreamland. By threatening Kirby’s life, MK forces him to fight like everything he knows and loves depends on it, which we all know is when Kirby is most motivated.
Yeah, Meta Knight doesn't care about proving anything to anyone, he wished for Galacta Knight because he wanted a challenge to make him a better warrior.
That makes sense Especially the part where he wants Kirby to be the heir to his spot, and to beat him eventually. And as for the powerful nature of Meta Knight and Kirby.... Kirby can crack a planet in half with one hand? And meta knight is the universes most powerful warrior? Oh boy, dont get on their bad side
@@katlynlazuli8954 Nope, neither of them, For Fox, all mk has to do is spam up-airs and up-b's, and for Bayo, all he has to do is dodge the....you know, and then tear her to shreads.
The term you are looking for Anti-Hero. Meta Knight might save the world or do good things but it's solely for the desire to get stronger and be the strongest of all warriors. He only helps Kirby defeat the main villian when he has already fought the threat and failed (Mirror and Robobot). This "be the strongest warrior" is also a good thing somewhat as that means Meta Knight wants to go honest and truly be the strongest warrior and not a cheap bastard winning with dirty tactics.
@@sonicthehedge a lot of people say that he’s an “anti-hero” but in reality and looking deeper in his current character, he’s more heroic than one and is only an optional challenger back in the forgotten land
"Why does Dedede have a chest containing Dark Nebula" there's a theory that Dedede and Meta Knight used to be adventuring heroes until they drifted apart, which would explain how they know each other and their knowledge on ancient evils like Nightmare or Dark Nebula.
I always thought of Meta Knight as what Kirby could be if he trained himself in one specific copy ability. Maybe this is contradicted by some recent lore or something, but my idea was that maybe at one point Meta Knight could use copy abilities, but at some point he chose to hone his skills with the blade. This gives him specific strengths like learning new moves, while Kirby has the infinite potential of copy abilities to choose from.
Well, it is implied that kirby is most likely a manifestation of void, so if that's the case and Meta knight and kirby are the same species, then that means that Meta Knight is a manifestation of void born by the desire to improve apon oneself and honor, while kirby is a manifestation of void born out of joy and hunger. A little story I just thought up of from this: On a distant planet, a being of sorts has found out how to manifest void and it's potential, they conduct a ritual, sommoning Void at it's base, potential, but with no direction, but once void detects the sense of honor, and the burning desire to improve from the being who manifested it, and so it takes these desires into itself and dissapears to a far off planet, with no memory of it's creation, it names itself "Meta Knight" and beguins it's journy of self improvement. Years later another being finds the ritual after entering an abandoned building to seek shelter. They unintentionally activate the ritual and summon another Void, the exact same as the first, and it takes in this being's hope, wonder joy, and hunger, and dissapears to the same planet as the first, with no memory of it's creation it names itself "Kirby" and thus it starts it's simple, care free life.
Star Allies was kinda skimpy in a lot of ways, but I think there's something worth noting about the ways the Jamba Hearts amplify the dark desires of their holders. For example, Dedede initially just reverted back to his greedy tendencies from his time as a villain. But when pushed to his limit, the reaction was to become physically stronger to try and match Kirby's considerable power. And we know Dedede has always had issues with the idea of Kirby being stronger than him. He explicitly trained to be stronger in Adventure, after all. If we look at how Meta Knight reacts to a heart, at first, he seems unchanged from any time he fights Kirby. He honorably throws him a sword for a proper duel and everything. But he's actually reverted back to his mindset from Revenge. If you wait long enough, or fly up to disturb him, he'll lose patience and fight you, even kicking the sword away as if to say "Screw honor, I just wanna beat you!" Just like in Super Star. And when he taps into the heart's power, he duplicates himself, which ties into Dark Meta Knight being a literal reflection of the darkness in his heart. Also, in a game all about friendship and teamwork, it's essentially saying "I will rely on my own strength. I am the only one who I can trust." This sentiment ties in nicely with MK's lone wolf habits of charging in to face the threat alone, without even trying to explain things or get help until Kirby reminds him "I'm Kirby, remember?" I love how even the choice of boss attacks can have lore implications in current Kirby.
Dark MK isn't really the darkness in his heart, so much as a parallel him, down to still kinda being heroic(just hard to notice when he and Dark Kirbo's first response is to get in the way) MK is a loner through and through though Also every "tosses sword duel me" scene has had that option of forgoing the sword, iirc Super Star MK actually does not respond to you flying up to him, though eventually the sword will despawn and he'll come down(KSSU MK might however)
Before reading all this, let me just preface that KF2 isn't necessarily "canon", but I don't think it really causes problematic plotholes for the main canon. This game has the same general director as the newer mainline games too, just would like to point out. Regardless: It's odd, he's portrayed to be a loner most of the time, stated as his splash title outright in Forgotten Land, but that makes Kirby Fighters 2 more... Interesting. Makes sense when you consider that Meta Knight and King Dedede both bonded because of their shared jealousy and motive to best Kirby. Dedede and Kirby are destined rivals, and Meta Knight is the greatest warrior in the galaxy - yet, can't even beat Kirby. Though, specifically the way Meta Knight and Dedede bond not only with their alliance, but the synchronization of their attacks, is more intriguing. The fact they genuinely care for eachother (quite deeply I might add) is pretty easy to read, and is likely a sign of character development. Because, let's be honest. Would Spring Breeze Dedede and Revenge of Meta Knight, uh, Meta Knight, even like eachother that much aside from Meta Knight being hired by Dedede? Even if the two possibly have a longer period of past history with eachother, their original motives as villains feel too conflicting. EDIT: I felt this was quite important to add: Meta Knight being a loner represents him depending on his own strength to become the greatest warrior in the galaxy. He can still care greatly for his friends and allies, but that's mostly kept seperate from his main goal. Kirby Fighters 2 represents him tapping into a part of his power-hungry side, taking desperate measures to beat Kirby. You know, that same locked away side of him that was shown by the Jamba Heart - just on a lesser scale in KF2.
He has atleast 1. The one in Super Star was brought up from the sea in Squeak Squad, then destroyed in Robobot. However, you cannot convince me he fixed it in like 10 minutes
The plot of Squeak Squad is literally a Regular Show plot: -Starts off with something normal like eating cake -You have to retrieve your stolen cake -Fight a demon from the underworld -You get your cake back and everything is back to normal
MORDECAI AND RIGBY! ALL I TOLD YOU TO DO WAS GET SOME STRAWBERRY SHORTCAKE FOR THE BIRTHDAY PARTY NOT UNLEASH THE RULER OF THE UNDERWORLD! RESEAL DARK NEBULA OR YOUR F I R E D
A possible explanation for Metaknight's conflicting roles is that his goal is to protect Dreamland and he attempts to do so through different methods. Metaknight aids Dedede in Adventure to protect the star rod, but Kirby shows enough promise that it is worth testing his capabilities. His plan in Super Star to rule over Dreamland through strength could have given him control over the direction of its populace and to arm them against outside threats. To continuously test himself as he does in the side canons ensures that he never becomes rusty when he is needed most. We can at least say of his character that he is highly ambitious, and continuously seeks to test his ability to achieve greater heights. This may be just a piece of his personality or it could be part of his mission objective. Maybe both?
I’d say his villainous role in super star was sorta down scaled in ultra because they changed his dialogue, instead of being happy his crew stays to fight, he feels regret that they may die and also says “Kirby prepare to meet your doom”. Also I’d argue that it’s likely he was friends with Dedede given their paired role in Kirby fighters 2 showing them as strong partners and with the mask of dark bonds at the end of the game. Maybe this could imply that they’ve been defending dreamland way before Kirby?
Meta Knight is my favorite too. And well, the anime actually answered all your questions, and explained a LOT of things about his character, far more than the games: Why he's so caring with both his subordinates and Kirby, why he works for Dedede, even why he looks like Kirby, why he helps him sometimes but not always, his motives, likes and dislikes, why he has wings, why he uses that mask all the time (even sleeping), and even the motive Halberd is so massive (it's actually far more altruistic than just power)... I know most people turns their faces when the anime is mentioned, but, in special about MK's story, it makes a ton of sense and explain some very important details about the games and why he's the character who always start the chaos (not really his fault... mostly). Meta Knight is actually a very complex character, with a full deep life story and a great personality we discover little by little (for example, I simply LOVE his - adult - humor sense, it's just too funny to see him bending all and every single one of Dedede's orders, then be a badass when a strong enemy appears, then when we enter his room on the castle, we find a HUGE candy jar hidden in plain sight in a corner). So, as a fellow MK's fan, I suggest for you to watch the anime when you can. Pay special attention to Meta Knight, I swear you will find a lot of cool details.
To answer your questions about squeak squad: The squeaks likely thought there was gold or something in the chest Dark Nebula is a form of Dark Matter so Dedede coming across it and sealing it isn't to unlikely given his experience with dark matter If the Dedede and Meta Knight are friends theory is true then that would explain why Meta Knight would know about the chest.
Meta Knight saying "Prepare to die" was a minstranslation if I remember correctly. Great video, will you also cover Bandana Dee? As you can guess, I like the little guy and think he has a bit to cover.
I love Bandana Dee too, but I don’t know if there’s enough in the main series for a video given his limited appearances... Now if we were to include spinoffs like Rainbow Curse and Battle Royale...
@@SilveryMP I'd say certain spin offs are worth mentioning Like even if they're very minor of importance to the overall lore I do think at least tackling the ones that match the game canon (like Canvas Curse, Rainbow Curse, Battle Royale, Super Kirby Clash and Kirby Fighters 2) is noteworthy...also because I just want Dee to get some love lol Also you mentioned Epic Yarn which isn't a mainline game.
I think you missed an important part about Squeak Squad. Meta Knight actually went and brought back the halberd in that game. It sunk in the secret sea back in Super Star. So basically this was implying that Meta Knight was working on bringing that ship back for awhile. Which is a really neat detail i find. Good video though. (Gotta dock point off for that jab at Star allies though)
Meta Knight is a cool dude. He has a good character arc tbh. He clearly begins to care about Kirby. He's a loner, but he knows to ask for help when he has to.
9:15 actually I heard that's a mistranslation and that he is suppose to be called ruler of the dark, also Star Allies wasn't that disappointing, ok when it first can out it was but after all the updates it's gotten I think it's great
Thank you for the feedback, I didn't know it was a mistranslation! As for Star Allies being disappointing, while I admit that the game has definitely improved since launch, I still think the overall game is kinda lackluster especially off the heels of Triple Deluxe and Planet Robobot. Maybe I'll go into detail in another video, but as it stands it's not bad, just a little underwhelming to me.
@@SilveryMP Yeah I agree Star Alliesdid have a like of flaws like the story mode being to short and some level designs just being not as good as Triple Deluxe or Planet Robobot ( unlike were talking about Guest Star or Heroes in Another Dimension mode which have great level design) also this was a great video
I personally do not see any relation between dark nebula and zero. I actually see more similarities with miracle matter and I just assume the localisationteam noticed the nonsense going on and that is why it was changed.
I kinda think that revenge of metaknight takes place before his first “appearance”. It would make a lot of sense if he changed and is not as violent and has become an honorable warrior.
4:40 I believe Meta Knight keeps Captain Vul around because it’s implied he helped Meta Knight build the Halberd to begin with. Vul refers to it as his own ship multiple times and though Meta Knight obviously owns it Vul could’ve been the one to layout the blueprints, he seems to know the ship just as well as Meta Knight does as well.
Well I will say one thing interesting about Meta Knight in epic Yarn... he actually appears to be trying to resist Yin Yarns control in between his phases which is actually pretty rare in a lot of these types of fights throughout the games.
In Kirby fighters 2 he was shown using the powers he received from the Jamba Heart corruption, but without the corruption itself. The powers were pink-ish instead of the evil looking dark purple (wich ironicaly would be more fitting for Meta Knight). So he might just be able to use the cloning and telekinesis thing on his own now.
@@skylord1846 well we thgout all the other side modes wert cannon but then morpho knight comes out of nowhere MAKEING THAT SHIT CANNON so why can this be diffrent
So I know kirby fighters 2 is technically spinoff game but it atcually does show the relationship between Dedede and Meta knight And yes i'm aware that this video was uploaded a mouth before
05:32 Actually, that move where he unleashes a giant tornado was originally called Mach Tornado until Smash started to call the smaller tornado he turns himself into for his Neutral Special Mach Tornado instead. About that thing with Dark Nebula and the being the ruler of the underworld: The Japanese version instead calls him the ruler of darkness. A personal theory of mine, seeing as he's called Dark Zero in Japan and uses elemental powers not unlike Miracle Matter, is that Dark Nebula is the remains of Miracle Matter that were sealed inside the chest after Kirby 64, which Dedede decided to guard thereafter. He probably entrusted Meta Knight with the knowledge of the chest's contents in the event that something should happen to it or himself. But as I said, it's just complete fan-speculation.
I like to think meta knight met king dedede as a friend, and the reason they help each other is because they just have friendly competition with each other
I love how Dedede and Meta Knight team up with Kirby a bit during some of the games! It’s awesome to see and gives the characters way more depth! They aren’t even bad people really.
Fun fact, variants of the 'Jamba Heart' abilities are kept in his appearance in his latest appearance in Forgotten World! Meaning, he either kept the abilities, or could always do them!
1. You mean Forgotten Land. And 2. I’m pretty sure he only has that telekinesis trick. He didn’t use that cloning ability or the one ability where he grabs someone with the purple orb during the boss battle.
Coming back to this video after Forgotten Lands release makes MK's character so much better imo, he shows up as an optional boss but there's a legit reason as to why he's there, to protect Waddle Dee Town both day and night. Dialogue in game and in the collectibles states that he's scouted the entire continent and has beaten Gorimondo 30+ times just to defend the town! Now that's heroism right there.
Did you know that Kirby Café confirms Meta Knight's favorite foods are affagatos (please correct me if i misspelled that) and parfaits? Meta Knight also tries to keep his sweet tooth a secret.
Ah yes, me and my friends all help each other by removing our lazy lifestyles. In a way, they stage a coup in my apartment and dethrone me from my laziness.
An excellent debut video. Honestly didn’t know the depth of the lore and history of Meta Knight as a character so it was really interesting to see such an in-depth and lovely analysis. Can’t wait to see more :) -Anthony D.
Theory: Meta Knight is from an alternate universe in his alternate universe is where he couldn't save dream land and it ended up being destroyed (Pretty much explaining on why he sometimes help Kirby)
If you watch kirby (right back at ya) he works for dedede but was an old star warrior. His team got defeated and he failed to fight the nightmare army. He helps kirby overcome his fears, taught him how to fight and taught him about the warp star
Great video! Even though it’s a different series, perhaps Super Smash Brothers Brawl’s story mode could give some extra character details on meta knight, especially considering the game was produced by Sakurai! The events of that game very much line up with your theory. he goes out of his way to fight every strong opponent that he meets.
there actually is a fairly significant dialogue change in super star ultra. instead of feeling grateful that his crew is willing to stay with him, he instead feels guilty. the lines "it's dangerous, but it's worth a try" and "thank you, guys" are replaced with "you are all about to perish. do as you please" and "(i'm sorry...)". i find the latter much more interesting. he knows his crew doesn't stand a chance against kirby or the sinking ship, but he doesn't have it in him to tell his men to stop fighting for him
I like how he just defends the waddle dee village when Kirby is gone in forgotten land. There wouldn't be alot for him to do otherwise, and it's definitely better than nothing.
I don't quite remember the source, in fact it could be the cartoon, which would likely make it noncanon where the games are concerned, but I believe it boils down to metal night being an older "star warrior" which is of the same race as kirby, but holding a relationship with kirby similar to superman and supergirl, two aliens, of which the older was meant to protect, guide, and teach, the younger, but kirby was beyond metal nights strength, if not experience, for reasons I never learned at least, and as a protector and guide of kirby who lives in dreamland, it can be extrapolated that the best way to raise kirby is simply to give him a safe environment to raise him in a friendly and balanced manner, as opposed to raised on war and violence, as after all, anyone could guess that a truly violent kirby could be nigh unstoppable. As such, metal night allows kirby to be raised in the relative safety of popstar, with friends food, and beautiful scenery, in an attempt to allow for a wholesome growth to maturity, likely before metaknight trains him to be a defender and warrior in his own right. But that's all assumptions. The basic facts gleaned from the animated series is that, it doesn't really matter what media metaknight is in, he's serious, calm, but wise and guiding, even if his methods are forceful. Perhaps the remakes were a ret on in some ways, perhaps not. After all, it's entirely possible his "villainous" actions were simply a heavy handed attempt at protection via control, and his attempt to "kill" kirby was simply a false pressure lesson. But that's only in theory, after all, we've never truly had much in the way of an explanation from, about, or by metaknight himself. So all we really have to go on is some shadow guard metaknight.
I think Meta Knight sides with what he thinks is right, wether it is helping Dedede with the star-rod to keep Nightmare trapped, helping Kirby in the las battle against star dream, or stealing the chest to prevent Kirby from opening it, trying to always help Dreamland and it's inhabitants, even if it might be questionable at times, like when he invaded Dreamland because it's inhabitants were lazy
"[...] which proves Meta Knight is just working for Dedede [rather than being Dedede's friend], and unfortunately it's very unlikely that they've gone on any weekend fishing trips together." *_Kirby Fighters 2_** has entered the chat*
I thought the other thing about meta Knight in krtdl was that he’s even skeptical of Magalor. I suppose it doesn’t mean anything if he glared at the butterfly at the opening cutscene too. ...or did I think I saw that?
That Samurai Kirby clip was gold. XD Basically sums up how everyone feels while playing that. Also Kirby Fighters 2 might confirm that Meta Knight and Dedede are friends but it could be that they just had a common goal. But it's a side game so it technically doesn't count. Also, again, I think in squeak squad, Meta Knight doesn't bother to explain himself because Kirby probably doesn't listen when he's hangry.
I believe Meta Knight is a very heroic figure, not really power hungry, but constantly seeking to protect the universe from its various threats. Revenge of Meta Knight was less him desiring to rule, but a plan to rally the weak lazy populace that he thinks couldn't fend for itself. Since his defeat, he has never made another attempt at controlling dreamland, instead choosing to simply test the skills of Kirby, the puffball who defeated him, as well as simply being there to protect order. If I were a speculating type, and I am, perhaps Galacta Knight and Meta Knight are related in some capacity. Did they work together before succumbing to a great power, and becoming as a result, the greatest warrior in the galaxy. Or is there appearance merely a coincidence.
We should take literally everything lorewise in this series with a grain of salt. The localisation is basically as bad with that as the Sonic series in that corner over there. The main example is what happened in star allies, Meta Knights fate is diffrent between the west and japanese. In japanese, he is canonically saved from corruption and well.....nothing happens with him. In english, he canonically falls into corruption entirely and is transformed into a dark version of himself, weirdly ending up being a corrupted swordsman travelling the space between dimensions. At least until the next maingame with him has to retcon that bs because localisation cannot just cut him out because of the oopsie they did in a previous game.
@@chrange9714 I call bull. Similar things happened in earlier games. I do not know the full extend, but I can point out some major stuff in the 3ds games at least.
@@chrange9714 Like for example how they changed a like from Susie that completely changes her relationship with Haltmann. In japanese, she wants him to come to his senses and in english, she wants to "teach him a lesson". Even worse in german where she calls him a horrible person.
@@lpfan4491 I won't deny that there's been word errors here and there. They said in the holo doomers fight that the original were red and blue when they're really red and purple, but that's not enough to essentially "not trust" the english translations. In robobot they messed up a few lines with Susie, but it wasn't wrong and it still made sense as Haltmann had a big ego and probably didn't treat Susie that well. In japanese, she just had a more pure intention. I woudn't say it completely changes her relationship with Haltmann, I would say that in japanese it gives them one that's a little better than in english. In Meta Knights case for star allies, it just didn't make sense.
Here's how I think Dedede got ahold of Dark Nebula. After Dark Matter possessed him (Dedede), they hid Dark Nebula's chest in his (Dedede's) treasure hoard. Also Dark Nebula being the ruler of the underworld was apparently just something that the translation team added.
Oh fun details with squeak squad! Meta knight was repairing the Halberd under the ocean! His boss fight is the rebirth and launch of the Halberd. I don't think we see the Halberd flying again untill after Squeak Squad.
Great video. You really did some in depth research of the series. Super Smash Bros Brawl was technically my first introduction to Meta Knight, funny enough. But my first actual Kirby game was Triple Deluxe, so I also technically met Dark Meta Knight as a boss first, before even meeting the real Meta Knight himself in Planet Robobot. As for Star Allies, I think the biggest flaw of the game was the emphasis on multiplayer, when I personally prefer single player modes. Also, way too much emphasis on 4 player mode instead of 1 or 2 player. But my sister and I played it last year, and I cannot deny how fun it was to use Marx and Magolor while my sister was Kirby. Having all the Star Allies to choose from truly made that game shine in multiplayer. And I loved the chance to use those unique bosses like Marx and Magolor, after already getting used to the idea of playable co-op with King Dedede and Meta Knight in Return to Dream Land.
This is such a great analysis! I love Meta Knight and video on him was so detailed and amazing. When will the next character analysis be? and WHO will it be this time? :0
I believe Meta Knight is the reason why the enemies Kirby fights are always the most over the top world-ending threats. It’s because Meta Knight takes care of all the smaller threats. It’s the reason why in Amazing Mirror and Robobot Kirby has to fight evil versions of Meta Knight, Meta Knight and his Meta Knights are Dream Land’s first line of defense, so if Kirby is ever needed to protect Dream Land it’s because the threat is too much for Meta Knight and his Knights (or airship) to contain. My guess for his attempt to conquer Dream land is because he perceived that Dream Land’s lazy lifestyle was detrimental to his efforts in protecting it, since everyone was so lazy while he and his Knights worked around the clock to keep Dream Land safe he wanted them to be more like his Knights, and his defeat at the very lazy Kirby’s hand made him realize that trying to end the lazy lifestyle of Dream Land contradicted his primary mission of protecting Dream Land. Basically I think Meta Knight and the Halberd are the guardians of Dream Land, with the well disciplined and loyal Meta Knights along with them Meta Knight can keep Dream Land safe from most threats, it’s only when the enemies are too powerful for him that Kirby has to intervene to save everyone (usually this also involves saving a brainwashed Meta Knight somewhere along the line)
Captain Vul states that the Halberd is his battleship in dialogue. My guess is that he's the guy who created the Halberd, hence calling it his battleship and Meta Knight working with him.
I don’t know too much about Kirby and I’d love to play more games but even so I really enjoyed the video and could tell your passionate about the subject. Great job and thank you for making this! 😄
If you want a place to start Kirby Super Star Ultra is a good jumping on point if have a DS/3DS or you can just play Super Star on the switch if a an active membership. Return to dreamland, triple deluxe,or planet robobot are also good choices.
I just want to say Nintendo should really expand on the relationship between Meta Knight, Sword Knight, and Blade Knight because we haven't seen the 3 together since Kirby super star ultra.
*YES*. Kid friendly video, no boredom, full lore walkthrough and *finally* JUST THE FACTS. :) love it, so helpful for my favorite game character of all time.
Allow me to shed my take on squeak squad. Those two had the chest containing Dark nebula for the sake of keeping it safe and preventing it’s release, it was a plan between Dedede and Meta knight. They probably kept it at Dedede’s because, as you said “Why does Dedede have the chest containing the ruler of the underworld?!”
As for Meta knight not telling Kirby why not to open the chest is a bit beyond me. How would you explain to Kirby that this Chest doesn’t have his cake in it but a dark entity? 🤷♂️ y’know
Good news there’s a bit of something else to add to meta Knight in Forgotten land: defending the waddle dee village and clearing off the beast pack from the area before Kirby showed up. He appears in the coliseum but it’s shown that he is watching over the village Batman style post game.
Forgotten land addition to Meta Knight: -Travels and explores an entire continent to try to find a way back to dreamland -returns to waddle dee town once the coliseum is build -uses the colosseum for training (beats Gorrimondo up several times) -watches over and protects waddle dee town day and night
For me. Many of Kirby's villains and antiheroes, MetaKnight is my favorite Antihero of the franchise. But, for me, the best villain or the most important in the whole Kirby Omniverse, is undoubtly Void. I am REALLY interested in Void in so many ways. And is said that Void is Kirby's counterpart and a big piece of chaos and destruction, where aside Kirby, he just wants to destroy rather than protect. And Dark Matter has something to do with it. Or maybe Zero/ZeroTwo. For me, The Dark Matter Trilogy is the best trilogy of kirby's game and they had to do SOMETHING with Kirby thanks to Star Allies where the Dark Matter lore became ultimately relevant to the point that Dark Matter is the Kirby's Antithesist himself. The true main villain of the franchise and the only one Kirby can face face to face. I really want to know EVERYTHING about Dark Matter's plot, but, oh well, maybe I am exhagerating.
Meta Knight being the same species as Kirby is also mysterious given what we know now about Kirby. If Kirby is a positive incarnation of Void, then what the hell is Meta Knight?! He's the only other character, besides Galacta Knight (which is a whole other can of worms) that resembles Kirby. Is he also an incarnation of Void or did Kirby just get born into a race or preexisting spherical beings, like Uub from Dragonball? Given Meta Knight and Galacta Knight are both immensely powerful also I would figure it's the former but we have no idea. And if he is an incarnation of Void, how did he come to be given his motivations are so erratic compared to Kirby, who is simply pure positivity. The connection between Kirby and Metaknight has always been strange because it begs more questions than it answers for both of them. Can Meta Knight Copy abilities like Kirby? Will Kirby someday grow wings when he's older? Are there others like them or are they the only ones? And when did both of them come into existence and why? We may never know.
I love Meta Knight’s motivations in “The Revenge of Meta Knight. He just wants everyone in Dream Land to get off their lazy butts…SO HE STARTS A FREAKING WAR so the people of Dream Land have to do something. Only to be stopped by Kirby. Funniest thing is if Kirby didn’t stop him Meta Knight still probably wouldn’t have been happy. He would have gotten to the first town and claimed “people of Dream Land, I’m here to conquer you!” Expecting them to say something along the lines of ‘we’ll never follow you!’ And resist only for Meta Knight to be so disappointed as they go “yeah, alright.” And accept Meta Knight as their new ruler without a fight.
I think King Dedede's theft of all the food in Dreamland is the straw that broke the camel's back for Meta Knight's invasion. I mean, he *is* (heavily implied to be) the same species as Kirby--and we've all seen how seriously Kirby takes cake theft. ;)
This is great for your first video, definitely subscribing. For future Kirby videos I do recommend referring to the anime. Even though it isn’t canon it still gets the characteristics of each character down perfectly.
Question: do you consider the anime's interpretation of Meta Knight accurate? I don't know if it's canon, but it'd be really interesting to see you unpack it and factor it in alongside the rest of his characterization.
Once I finish the King Dedede and Kirby videos, I plan on making a video on their anime characterizations, and potentially others based on spinoffs or the light novels. I’d need to rewatch the anime, but from my memory it seems Meta Knight plays more of a passive mentor role to Kirby, which is not unlike the games in some ways but he’s usually more in the background while Kirby has most of the action. I wouldn’t necessarily call it inaccurate, it just puts more focus on different parts of his character.
@@SilveryMP fair enough. honestly, if you *do* rewatch the anime, the dub is better imo (wild, I know, I don't know how they did it)-a Spanish accent fits Meta Knight *SO* much better than you'd think at a cursory glance.

Meta Knight has always been my favorite Kirby character, mostly by default and because his Smash Bros. play style is more fun than Kirby's and Dedede's. But now he's definitely my favorite because he likes to read.

That's why he's the goat
I get it
Yeah but I don’t think 3 up airs in a single short hop is required but if I’m wrong I’m wrong
Uhh dedede and knight are homies tho
Agreed with his only one attempt of taking over dreamland
Yeah, Meta Knight doesn't care about proving anything to anyone, he wished for Galacta Knight because he wanted a challenge to make him a better warrior.
That makes sense

The term you are looking for Anti-Hero.
Meta Knight might save the world or do good things but it's solely for the desire to get stronger and be the strongest of all warriors. He only helps Kirby defeat the main villian when he has already fought the threat and failed (Mirror and Robobot).
This "be the strongest warrior" is also a good thing somewhat as that means Meta Knight wants to go honest and truly be the strongest warrior and not a cheap bastard winning with dirty tactics.

Now I need Kirby to spend a few centuries trying to master walk the dog, and become the coolest boss in history.

A little story I just thought up of from this:
On a distant planet, a being of sorts has found out how to manifest void and it's potential, they conduct a ritual, sommoning Void at it's base, potential, but with no direction, but once void detects the sense of honor, and the burning desire to improve from the being who manifested it, and so it takes these desires into itself and dissapears to a far off planet, with no memory of it's creation, it names itself "Meta Knight" and beguins it's journy of self improvement.
I always thought that after Kirby destroyed the Halberd, Meta Knight decided to rethink his actions and had a change of heart.
They rebuloid and got destroyed
I am the only one who I can trust." This sentiment ties in nicely with MK's lone wolf habits of charging in to face the threat alone, without even trying to explain things or get help until Kirby reminds him "I'm Kirby, remember?"
I love how even the choice of boss attacks can have lore implications in current Kirby.

MK is a loner through and through though
Also every "tosses sword duel me" scene has had that option of forgoing the sword, iirc Super Star MK actually does not respond to you flying up to him, though eventually the sword will despawn and he'll come down(KSSU MK might however)
Before reading all this, let me just preface that KF2 isn't necessarily "canon", but I don't think it really causes problematic plotholes for the main canon. This game has the same general director as the newer mainline games too, just would like to point out. Regardless:
It's odd, he's portrayed to be a loner most of the time, stated as his splash title outright in Forgotten Land, but that makes Kirby Fighters 2 more...

Not likely at all, the series is quite clear about their relation.
And thats how the story end
But Kirby fighters 2 isn’t canon tho. So I doubt that they are friends.

A knight takes on many challenges and taking over a whole kingdom is a very big challenge

Love this video, got me caught up with the hidden lore of the Kirby series, cant wait to see what you come up with next!
Theory: Meta Knight is from an alternate universe in his alternate universe is where he couldn't save dream land and it ended up being destroyed
(Pretty much explaining on why he sometimes help Kirby)
Man deserved an Grammy. Excellent Character.
I appreciate ur scholarship for this beloved franchise, sir
I think Meta Knight sides with what he thinks is right, wether it is helping Dedede with the star-rod to keep Nightmare trapped, helping Kirby in the las battle against star dream, or stealing the chest to prevent Kirby from opening it, trying to always help Dreamland and it's inhabitants, even if it might be questionable at times, like when he invaded Dreamland because it's inhabitants were lazy

I like how Galacta Knight literally one-shots Planet Robobot's final boss, but then gets totally wrecked by Meta Knight.
That Samurai Kirby clip was gold. XD
Basically sums up how everyone feels while playing that.
I wish this video was made after Forgotten Land because I feel like it's an interesting addition to his character, even if a small one.
The localisation isn't that bad at all. It happened in that one game probably because it had a rough development

“It’s never confirmed meta knight is the same species as kirby”
**shows meta knight without a mask and proving he is identical to Kirby**
DEDEDE is legitimately one of the best characters in fiction
I don’t know too much about Kirby and I’d love to play more games but even so I really enjoyed the video and could tell your passionate about the subject. Great job and thank you for making this! 😄
If you want a place to start Kirby Super Star Ultra is a good jumping on point if have a DS/3DS or you can just play Super Star on the switch if a an active membership.
Return to dreamland, triple deluxe,or planet robobot are also good choices.
@@Ghost-ul8eu so far I’ve played star allies and a good portion of planet robobot, I’ll definitely be checking the games you recommend out
I just want to say Nintendo should really expand on the relationship between Meta Knight, Sword Knight, and Blade Knight because we haven't seen the 3 together since Kirby super star ultra.
*YES*. Kid friendly video, no boredom, full lore walkthrough and *finally* JUST THE FACTS. :) love it, so helpful for my favorite game character of all time.
3:33 taking it from zero to 100. 3 seconds ago you where feeding me candy. Now you are stuffing me in a van.
Link?
@@bben9-kun597what do you mean,it is stated that he decided to protect waddle Dee town while Kirby is gone.
@@Marcuskwok-hn5yi You are a whole year late dawg, I been found that out by playing through the game again 💀
nice touch using Meta Knights Revenge as the background track
Forgotten land addition to Meta Knight:
-Travels and explores an entire continent to try to find a way back to dreamland
-returns to waddle dee town once the coliseum is build
-uses the colosseum for training (beats Gorrimondo up several times)
-watches over and protects waddle dee town day and night
I really hope you continue this series it's great
After watching this video i love meta knight even more
Meta Knight wishing to fight the strongest warrior in the galaxy makes me think of Goku popping out and fighting him.
Finally, somebody brought this up!
That was really good. Can you make a 50 second video about the complete lore of Bandana Dee next?
I thought Meta Knight was so cool just because of the fact that he's mysterious and skill full
Besides dedede
@@SilveryMP There are novels?
@@SilveryMP I can’t wait to hear what you have to say about the novels because literally no one talks about them. The novels go a lot deeper into the character’s personalitys then the games and it’s interesting to see. It’s a little upsetting how so little people know about them.
@@Fox_Squash Could you tell me the name of some of the novels?
Meta Knight has always been my favorite Kirby character, mostly by default and because his Smash Bros. play style is more fun than Kirby's and Dedede's. But now he's definitely my favorite because he likes to read.
Meta knight is a dark version of Kirby from the multiverse. He doesn’t kill Kirby because he knows it’ll hurt him.
