When I get to the screen to choose which user I want to reset the password for, there are no users to choose from. I only have the option to Deactivate Mac. Any advice?
Anyone having this issue.. hold the keys and power button on the screen AT the SAME TIME.. it’ll automatically start the startup screen.. I had to step away for a couple hours. And for some reason my hands led me to do this 😂

Hey man! I did everything you showed in a new 13.0.1 version. There was additional steps whcih before being able to reset password I needed to enter apple id and password. After creating my new password I restarted and it didn't accept my new password. And to make it worse I can't go to normal login screen and I'm stuck recover assistant menu. There is only option to write password to login, erase Mac or restart. That's it I'm stuck!

I have a 12.4 Mac Desktop Apple M1. To boot M1 Mac: Press and hold the power button until you see “Loading startup options”, then click on Options and Continue. The article that I got this info from only took me as far as the info provided above and did not provide me info on how to reset the pw, lol I would've been lost without this video. Once I was in, I followed all of the steps on this video, and BAM! I'm back!! TY!!!
Thank you very much! I used this on a colleague's work computer & it worked like a charm. She had forgotten her password, but I can't help but wonder if this isn't a security flaw? Presumably an unscrupulous person could reset a computer's password & snoop around and then reset it back to the original password with nobody being the wiser, no?

Thanks was fed up of typing in a realy long password so I went into settings to shorten it and I didn’t realise it was asking me for my old password and I pressed enter and it changed it automatically to something I didn’t know what it was

I can't get it to the recovery mode. Maybe the machine does not have a hard drive installed? although I get the password screen always. iMac 24" 2009 version 10.6

m series chips do not use command + r for recovery mode. simply hold the power button for them.

If you encrypt the drive then you can't do that. But yeah, best practice to encrypt
