    My 2022 iteration arrived this morning. At 57 it's definitely a nostalgic feeling with this model, as is often the case with Casio. It will now share wrist time with my beloved DW291. Especially once I've replaced the strap with a better one.

      Ah, nostalgia is one of Casio's superpowers! I like the DW-291, but, unfortunately I have too small of a wrist to wear it... Enjoy both watches and thanks for this comment!!!

      Funny, just got a brand new DW291 (red dial surround) and bought a used 290 last night. They put a W86-1V strap on it and it looks pretty cool. Paid $25 for the 290.

    4:05 I see the early Japan version uses a 1219 Module , the 2013 version uses a 1189 Module and the new one uses a 3231 Module. I own a Made In Thailand version with the 1189 Module and it says DW-290-T , maybe the T stands for Thailand , I don't know. Even though the face of the watches all appear to look the same , the module differences usually has something to do with the date calander. Mine with the 1189 only goes to calander year 2039. The new one (3231)probably goes to 2099 and the older one (1219) I think may only go to 2019. Also Casio stopped putting JAPAN on the face of the watch years ago as many of there watches were being made in other countries other then Japan. Some older Casio watches will have a letter at the bottom of the watch as the 1219 and 1189 modules do , but they stopped doing that as well as you can see the 3231 module does not have that letter under the word Luminescent.

    • @WUDN-WatchUDontNeed
      @WUDN-WatchUDontNeed  10 месяцев назад

      Whoa! Thanks for the precious information!
      Yes, I can confirm that the new one goes to 2099, I think that the 1189 goes to 2029.
      I found out that the first DW-290 was first issued in 1995 (1st of January, to be precise) whereas the first DW-290 with the 3231 exactly 5 years later (to the day!).
      Oh, and, thanks to your comment, I actually found data backing up the fact that the color of the light changes: green on 1189 and blue on 1219 (and, I can say also on the 3231).
      Thanks for your comment!

    It's not a figment of your imagination, the Japanese module of this Casio use to have more of a blue hue of Electroluminescent Ligh. When I was a kid, I use to have a watch with the same module of this Dw290, mother bought it for me in USA and the same model sold in my country had an El backlight color more like in the green hue (God, How I miss that watch 😢). I bought in Amazon this dw290 because it's kind of the same module "lineage" and because my old watch has been discontinued since the 1990's.
    Thank you for the video.

      Oh, yeah, patina on a well cared for object is something that I love too. It gives it a unique character. The Japanese define this concept, if I'm not mistaken, as wabi-sabi. Thanks for this comment!!!

    В школе носил такие часы, модель DW-290 T (именно с индексом T), модуль 1189. Со временем цифры стали тусклыми, не такими яркими, как в ролике на модели 93 года. Вероятно, это связано с зарядом батарейки. Из надписей на корпусе осталось только 200M и не бирюзовым, как на модели 21 года, а коричневым цветом, таким же, как надпись alarm chronograph под casio. Ремешок порвался и часы более не использовались. Недавно обратил внимание на эти часы, экран ничего не показывал. Заменил батарейку, появилось время, цифры четкие, но дисплей стал с желтовато-коричным оттеном, в тон той же надписи alarm chronograph и подсветка стала зеленовато-изумрудной, вместо синевато-бирюзового свечения, как в ролике на часах 13/21 года. Связываю такие изменения со старением и выгоранием дисплея, что никак не влияет на функциональность часов. Еще проблема в нестандартном размере крепления ремешка 19мм. Мне не нравится взаимодействие пластика стандартного ремешка и кожи на руке, а металлический браслет от casio 168 чуть меньше в размере (18 мм). Хотелось бы для гармонии иметь часы и браслет одного производителя, но придется брать иной 20 мм и спиливать надфилем края до нужного размера. И хотя я не любитель крупных часов, в DW-290 есть некий шарм. Они действительно переносят в ту эпоху 90х, вызывают воспоминания и эмоции от надписей и дизайна, как при первом знакомстве с этими часами.

      Thank you for this beautiful comment! And how lucky we are to live in an era where Google Translate is available (I don't speak or write Russian, unfortunately). I like the fact that Casio watches, even after decades, will tell you the time if you just put a new battery on. And the change in colour of the display, retro illumination and writings on the case-dial add to the charm of a vintage object (a concept the Japanese call wabi-sabi).
      As for the strap, I like the original one, but I can see why you would like to change it with another by Casio. Let me know if you manage to find a suitable new strap! I think the nostalgia factor is one of the main reasons that make us love this brand so much. I'll make soon a video about this (featuring the Casio dw-5750).
      Thanks for this comment!
      Спасибо за этот красивый комментарий! И как нам повезло, что мы живем в эпоху, когда доступен Google Translate (я, к сожалению, не говорю и не пишу по-русски). Мне нравится то, что часы Casio даже спустя десятилетия покажут время, если просто поставить новую батарейку. А изменение цвета дисплея, ретро-подсветка и надписи на корпусе-циферблате добавляют очарования винтажному предмету (концепция, которую японцы называют ваби-саби).
      Что касается ремешка, то мне нравится оригинальный, но я понимаю, почему вы хотели бы заменить его на другой от Casio. Дайте мне знать, если вам удастся найти подходящий новый ремешок! Я думаю, фактор ностальгии - одна из главных причин, заставляющих нас так сильно любить этот бренд. Скоро сделаю видео по этому поводу (с участием Casio dw-5750).
      Спасибо за этот комментарий!

    I believe this model was subject to some resistance from people simply because of the style, I personally like it and would be happy to have it in my collection, I think the shape is unusual and of course anything from Casio is definantly going to tickle my fancy.

    In your experience, how long the battery last?

    • @WUDN-WatchUDontNeed
      @WUDN-WatchUDontNeed  8 месяцев назад +1

      The one with the “oldest“ battery was bought in January 2022 (I just checked my order) and it is still going strong, so it’s battery is at least two years old.
      The display is crisp, the light works well and the numbers do not fade when I switch on the light on.
      I have Seldom used the alarm on that one.
      The other two both have had their batteries for one year and a half.
      One of the two I use very often: alarm every day, stopwatch at least twice a week, and timer also at least twice a week.
      It is still going strong.
      The Casio site says that the battery will last approximately two years.
      Their estimate are often on the conservative side, so I might guess that two years and a half to three years would be a more realistic battery life.
      I know it’s not much, but still these watches are so cool that I am willing to put up with this downside .

    • @WUDN-WatchUDontNeed
      @WUDN-WatchUDontNeed  10 месяцев назад

      I wish I could answer to this question...
      The DW's with the faded lettering that you see in the video were bought both used, so I got them already black and half-polished by the passing of time.
      As to a way of protecting the green letters (how I feel you: I thought about it a lot!) I'm not really sure and I haven't found much information about it.
      At a certain point I thought about using nail polish, but 1- that would make the area shiny, hence contrasting with the matte grey of the rest of case 2- the polish might actually contain chemicals that could delete the green letters.
      Who knows if there's a forum page about this topic...

    I feel like the displays are a crap shoot and u never know how it's gonna go. I collect vintage casio's and I'm lucky enough to have known about this before purchasing. I think there are videos on here that describe how to fix them,but even as someone who breaks these things down to a bare case and reassemble I personally wouldn't try it with a watch u care about. Your best bet might be to sacrifice a newer one for it's display if u wanna keep the rest of it's vintage appeal. U can even get a replacement vintage casings with bezel
