This is not damascus steel. This is pattern welded steel. It emulates the look but does not have the same properties. True damascus steel is different types of steel melted together in a crucible but not sufficiently blended together, and there are still impurities in some of the metal. So when the solid metal reforms, it forms similar patterns to this but is truly one single piece and not multiple welded together. It's called damascus because during the early ages of steel production, damascus syria had steel coming out of their crucibles with these patterns in it. And thus were desireable.

Wouldn't that come at the cost of blade integrity at the tip? That's almost like voluntarily fish mouthing the tip, and I didn't see any borax come into the forge weld at that point.
