This is so awesome! Thanks for putting this together. I loved how the Dead were such fans of other contemporary artists like The Beatles and Bob Dylan. A friend of mine said the Dead also did a great live version of Strawberry Fields Forever and also Come Together. I'ver never seen either performance but would love to. The best Dead show I ever personally attended was Ventura County Fairgrounds in 1985, which has since become a legendary performance. Peace!
I was on the front row, directly in front of Jerry for the Lucy In The Sky, and I used to have a second generation copy of the video, purchased the next night in traffic. Sadly, the VHS was lost. In the original video you could see me saluting them with my gold handled cane. Thanks for the post.
"production quality aside, it's magnificent that this magic was caught. I certainly went to enough shows that I can put myself right there... sound and story. BLESS YOU AND ALL THE OTHERS THAT KEEP THE MUSIC ALIVE!!!
A Day in the Life is a rehearsal. Lol at Jerry saying it would be great if they could work it out, but it might take a little longer than this one rehearsal
I believe It's all Over Now, Baby Blue was the longest played Dylan cover. 66-94/95. The boys trying to cover Blackbird was a valiant effort. Well, an effort. I do love the Grateful Dead.
I loved the Beatles before any other band at my time it was mostly country + blues or classical ! Then the Gratefuldead plus Pink Floyd was all my favorites but I’ll always listen to the Dead because I fell in love with Jerry @ 1st site ! ❤️🐰🐇🌹🥳👽🪐🛸👻
In one of my bands we transposed it to G, so it was way easier to sing. They could’ve easily switched it to a friendlier key, I don’t know why they didn’t.
That show was the worst of 1987, a year famous for solid if not spectacular performances. Weir's dog Otis, who makes a cameo on Reckoning, had passed the night before, so they were understandably not in top form. One of a meagre handful of bad GD shows I've heard.
On the end of the article about Jerry & Lennon hanging out the bit John Kahn said is bullshit. Jerry Garcia never in a million years would say “f**k him” to or about John Lennon. Garcia worshipped the ground Lennon walked on. On the flip side Lennon never would’ve demanded a “louder guitar” than Jerry’s. That doesn’t even make sense. Also remember around this time in1975 Lennon had zero ego with performing & was struggling with social anxiety bc he hadn’t performed in a long time & because he had stopped using heavy drugs. As to the reason why Lennon didn’t come back the next day I’d put my money on him trying to maintain his sobriety which it sounds like he’d relapsed the night before with Jerry (this is right when he started using heroin on a daily basis & that was Lennon’s favorite drug). Edit: I could be wrong on this but I think Lennon was at this concert.
There was nothing Jerry couldn’t play , he born with it in his soul ! He’s out around as a ghost Angel helping the boys along as Bobby says Jerry comes to him in dreams !👻☠️🧚♀️🧚🏿♂️🧚🏼☮️✝️☪️🪬🌈☄️💥👽🪐🛸❤️🐰🐇🌹🥳 party on !
I wish you were able to place more of the chapters in the description. Love the compilation, but why only, what 5 songs identified? Keep up the good work, and I hope that you can get the rest of the information on the songs for us.
Gerry's got some great tunes in his bag(so to speak)but U can't help but to see how much he doodles with chromatic notes till he finds something he can hear works ..no denying he's a great bluegrass player.....
Yeah,a lot of people have a problem with the loose improvisation, but when it was in the middle of a show, it always seemed to be just right. Their ability to read and respond to a crowd... Amazing!!
Jerry was born old before he could ever b young but music made him feel good , he couldn’t stop when he should of but we have these to take us back ! ❤️🐰🐇🌹🎼🎹🥳💙💛💚🧡💜peace my brothers from a old friend of his , I told them to never use my name but people did call out my + nieces so we couldn’t go out anymore without a guard to protect us ! I didn’t like that .
I'm not a big Beatles fan, especially Paul's stuff, but by far my favorite GD Beatles is 'Rain'. They really nailed the harmonies with Vince on the high end. Speaking of Vince, his rendition of 'Tomorrow Never Knows' is probably my second favorite. Some of the 80s stuff is kinda embarrassing like someone said below.
I think so when John Lennon was there he was drunk + had to sit , I saw that with another who was there ! Bobby sang with Paul McCartney , ide say yes to that !? But to me with Bobby singing with Paul I think he was a little intimidated ? I only know about it all in some of the comments ! 🕊️🐒🐵🙈🙉🙊🪬🌹❤️💜🧡💚💛💙love to all ! 🍄💦☮️💟✝️☪️💗🔮❤️🐇🐰🌹👽🪐🛸
Nice compilation...but the GD fell short on all of them. Shows the genius/skill of the Beatles and the sloppiness of the Grateful Dead. The Beatles could NEVER play Grateful Dead music. Meanwhile, The Dead can play the Beatles music...but it doesn't mean they should. Nice effort but No one sounding good in any of it. JGB Dear Prudence is the lone highlight. The rest is kind of embarrassing.
Definitely. I love the Dead but most these songs aren’t well served by the Dead’s looser approach and, even more, by the singing. For that matter, many blues songs the Dead covered were mediocre. Bobby’s singing is limited, though on his own songs it works just fine. Also, songs like Me and My Uncle he can sing well

Pigpen Hey Jude is my favorite GD Beatles cover
Great collection. Thanks!

Amazing compilation, thanks!!
LMAO Bobbies vocals on Get Back had me crying from laughter. Bless his soul he tried
Bobby is always like that 😂

@@carlos_herrera That's dope thanks for the context my guy love hearing from old heads
anyone better you can name. Bob is a legend like few others. Few rock stars put out more. Can you imagine the R. Stones playing the Dead? Ug.
Wow! This is great! Thanks for posting!!
This was so easy for them to play !!
Looooove this thanks for posting, Rain and Dear Prudence my faves but it all fux 🍻
Thanks! If anyone interested has not heard or seen Phish play the entire White Album live, the full video is on youtube.
I've always enjoyed the JGB version of Dear Prudence more than The Beatles'. Jerry had a knack for finding the right tempo for a song.
Nice memories😅
God Bless JGB🙏
this is awesome!
Let me roll it.
No "It's All Too Much" either! Saw the Spectrum '95 version
There is an It's All Too Much, the 7/8/1995 version is listed
I was a day tripper + loved every minute of it ! If we got the really good stuff we all b tripping all nite too ! 😂🤣😅🥹😵💫😱🥳

There is an audio recording of John Kahn attesting to it.
was at the Nassau Rain show,, Bobby doing a Townshend on Baba gotta love it !!
That dwarf rat is so epic to listen to. Is that when lightning hit the stage ?
Thanks for this! ❤️
Thank you!
I have to recall, Encore what not, it was like what am I hearing now. They're playing Beatles song, that the Beatles could never accomplish
This song without Brent was in 95 I think because it was not long that Jerry passed after that !😢😥😪🫥😱😶🌫️🥳

57:15 what the hell happened to bobby’s voice here😭😭
Apparently Bob doesn't have the range that McCartney does.
That was Dan Healy playing a joke on Bobby
Too high😮
A Day in the Life is a hard song to navigate with many chords changes but it's a good song.
It's a rehearsal anyway.
Maybe it's just me, but the B minor chord on guitar can be a bitch

Please please tell me the date of this Dear Prudence.
9/1/1990, Shoreline Amphitheater, Mountain View, CA (Jerry Garcia Band). Full show is available on YT

Who is the guest guitarist on Baba O'Reilly?
Steve Miller!
Steve Miller
I have no idea ? I don’t watch late shows if that’s what it is ?
No "I Want to Tell You" .. !!
Missed that one, apologies

Did the Beatles have respect for the dead?

Paul is a deadhead. He made a short film using photos of the Dead taken by Linda.
@@peekonsandy2773really I did not know that.
One was a who song Baba O'Reilly
They only included Baba because it led straight into Tomorrow Never Knows. Same thing for Winwood's Dear Mr Fantasy into Hey Jude
get back..
Bob’s vocals are terrible 😂
I think on "Get Back" the sound guy Dan Healy is tweaking Bob's vocals... He doesn't seem very happy about it lol

“the beatles could never play grateful dead music”
They came close on Day Tripper. I could almost see that being a Dead song. But yeah the Beatles version is better
Because it was so easy for them to play !
😂

I started out with the Beatles then ended with Gratefuldead ! ❤️🐇🐰🌹☠️💀⚡️👽🪐🛸🚀💕😍🥰😘🧖♀️😶🌫️😱🤯blow my mind + took my face rite off my head !
So did the Dead. Jerry said that after seeing The Beatles on TV he moved from acoustic folk/Americana to electric rock and blues.
