What I always admired about the Rumbar Pirates is that even though their situation was truly hopeless and tragic, they didn't give in to despair. Instead of letting themselves waste away in agony, the whole crew did what they always did and sang with smiles on their faces and joy in their hearts.

I think instead of layering their voices on top of each other, you might get better results splitting them up between versus. Two lines apiece for each singer and they cotinuously alternate. Other than thst, love it.
Personally I think it does work, because the song is meant to be sung by a whole ship or tavern of pirates so I feel it's intended to be busy and a bit messy so it feels more organic.
