Geez, I had forgotten idea how bluntly and boldly Pres. Eyring spoke back then. He is still speaking with clarity today, but he certainly did not hold anything back in this address.
Life changing. So moving that you want to do things differently. An Aha moment for me. He says, “As a high jumper looking at a bar that’s over your head thinking how am I going to get my whole body over that?” “Set the bar a little higher for yourself. And then set it a little higher. “ I want to get closer and closer to the Savior.
The Holy Ghost helps on practical everyday matters, not just spiritual matters. My wife and I had a project years in planning with 2 of the 3 goals in our garage completed. While working on the 3rd part, I was having difficulties. I had asked previously for guidance and help from the Lord because I had been prone to impatience I wasn't as strong as in my youth. As I came to the most difficult part I tried to do the same thing twice and didn't succeed.. to my mind came a whisper to be patient and listen. No sooner had I calmed down than the proper way was shown unto me to succeed. Even then it was up to me to decide. With diligence I followed the prompting. What would have been a disaster was a completed project and a promise kept to my wife. Never think the Holy Ghost is not there. I also testify that God sends his love through the Holy Ghost
FANTASTIC TALK!!! Wow! Even President Eyring felt the light and dark of whether the Holy Ghost was present with him. WOW! Nephi was conveyed away out of their sight!! We may need that in the future! 😮

As I sit here and relate to your testimony and speech I know my struggles but feel I am willing to fight trough my negativity I will be protected and directed by the Holy Ghost . In Jesus name. Amen
This message is exactly what I'm looking for to reinforce this week's Come, Follow Me reading assignment in 3 Nephi. Thank you so much, Elder Eyring. I've been living in Thailand for 18 years now and this is the first time I heard such stories about how the Holy Ghost prompted a church member to check out the hotel near the beach and move to another hotel on a higher ground before the tsunami hit. Also those who went to church located on a higher ground and attended the sacrament meeting that day when tsunami hit. They did listen to the promptings of the Holy Ghost to spend their time to go to sacrament meeting even though they were on vacation. So grateful I found this video. This is so powerful for me. The Lord's twelve disciples "did pray for that which they most desired; and they desired that the Holy Ghost should be given unto them." (3 Nephi 19: 9) There is no reason why we wouldn't desire most for the Holy Ghost to be given unto us as well.
Henry B Erying is one of my favourites. I love how he can speak in scripture's. What a wonderful memory. When not quoting scriptures he teaches in plain words easy to understand. I confess to having a lot of favourite speakers in the church. Elder Eryring is lovely, like my grandpa.

When we are confirmed after baptism, we are told to receive the Holy Ghost. The power of the Holy Ghost is not automatically conferred upon us. We must receive Him. The Holy Ghost may come upon us, but he will not always strive with us unless we remain in obedience and on the covenant path. President Eyring is teaching us how to receive the constant companionship of the Holy Ghost.

The history of the Church shows a preference for nepotism (look at all the Smith Presidencies) and Eyring merely fulfills that role. It's not that he is not qualified, it's that his heritage gives him an edge over most others as qualified.
No, is that the Lord sends more qualified and more valiant spirits to those families who approved themselves to be more fruitful in His service. Just look at the Book of Mormon. We see many prophets whose sons also became Prophets. For instance, Nephi became a mighty prophet while his brothers, Laman and Lemuel sank into wickedness and unbelief. Nephi did not become a prophet because he was the son of Lehi, but because he did not harden his heart and he applied himself to study, obedience and mighty prayer. And he was faithful and quick to obey. Similar things can be said of other prophets in the Book of Mormon. But the reason those mighty spirits were sent to those particular families is because those families provided the best atmosphere in the best training and the best rearing and righteousness to nourish those mighty spirits. Nepotism is a worldly concept. It is favoritism shown by those in power to those of their family members. It often leads to corruption and inefficiency or incompetence. President hiring could not be a mighty prophet of God unless he had done the spiritual work, unless he had been obedient and applied himself and unless the Lord prepared him and called him to service.

But the Holy ghost is given to us when we are confirmed after baptism. He is our CONSTANT Companion unless we live unworthily and offend Him.
