Just found your videos recently and love your channel!
From what I remember, “950” is a marking for platinum. You may want research that bracelet really good before you sell it!
I held on to a lot of costume jewelry from the days my husband and I owned a pawn shop. I figured I would research and sell the costume pieces one day. Your videos have been a great help!
Rusty...thanks for being so candid...especially about "Alpaca silver". While it's true that it's not close to sterling, it is often referred to and sold in Mexico as silver. It's easy for street vendors from another country to sell it as silver, whether they do it intentionally or not. Being from Texas, a fair amount of it works it's way into Texas dealer's wares, along with the misnomer. Please don't be hard on yourself, and while I haven't seen any of the comments, it's easy for anyone to jump on the internet and become an expert. We all just have to be kind and civil and share with each other the wisdom that we know. I have always had a sideline of selling antiques and collectibles for most of my life. My father was also a sideline collector. I learned a lot from his generation, which not is often referred to differently...PLUS the market is always changing. You have an amazing knowledge of so many things and I appreciate what I learn from you...and I'm sure I could be old enough to be your mom! lol. We live and learn! Keep up the fabulous work, and I try to speak up and let you know another perspective if I hear it, but I how I don't do it without showing respect to you and all your hard work.
With all that you have shared with us, I do have one request. I'm a dinosaur when it comes to Ebay these days. It used to be more simple, but I have not sold or purchased on eBay in about 15-20 years. Would you consider doing a tutorial about helping sell on Ebay? The older I get, the more tedious all the details get! You have a great way of instructing and explaining. You may have already done one, so if you have, could you give us a link to it. I've been watching your channel lately and can see I haven't scratched the surface! Thanks ever so much!
Love your sales strategies and I agree with them. I’m so tired of watching reselling YTers that complain they won’t sell anything unless they can make $75-$100 per ITEM (they state it’s not worth their time). Well ladeeda. It must be nice to purchase a cheap piece of glass for $3.00 at Goodwill and have someone pay $100 for it. 🙄
I hear you. We wanted to do things a bit differently. I think I read somewhere that over 90% of items donated to Goodwill stores are worth $30 or less. So...if that's true, you really do need to have some knowledge of values of a lot of different categories in order to find those deals. Also, you have to be persistent and lucky at times. That kind of sourcing isn't just about knowing the value when you see it, but it's also about being fortunate to be in the store on the right day at the right time to find it before someone else does!
Noone is perfect! We all make mistakes, it makes me feel better because I'm just learning! Thank you for your time and wisdom.
Hi and thank you!
I learn a lot from you I am so gratefull🥰
Givenchy Great find a well known fashion house since 1952😉
Wonderful!
Your content is good. I have to say…..the intro makes me smile every time 👍🏾
Rusty, LC is Lauren Conrad. She sells through Kohl's stores, among others.
Thank you so much for sharing your wisdom on jewelry. I have learned so much. I wish I had known this when my mom died. My sister and I took turns picking out piece by piece I knew she knew much more about the real stuff vrs. the stuff that didn't cost as much. She did let me have mom's engagement ring and her beautiful 50th-anniversary ring. I just picked out what had memories for me. I can't go to garage sales or goodwill stores as I am not mobile (my right leg was amputated). I just heard about Goodwill Bluebox and I just bought 2 last week. I will put into practice what I have learned from you. I can always put pieces into my crazy Quilts if the boxes are just junk. I will send the plastic junk to my granddaughters to have fun with.
Very helpful information here. Thank you!
I think your Givenchy has a "signature" design on the pendant. If so, that drives the price way up.
Get to know these valuable names. People may be sourcing very valuable jewelry from you.
Rusty! I enjoyed the video, then you played the guitar. Well cousin, that was AWESOME! ❤
Givenchy (pronounced jiv-on-she) is a high end French designer that made good quality costume as well as fine jewelry.
That frogger! So cute!
Yeah! I am so glad a new video has come up. I finished binging and was waiting for some more greatness.
Thanks Cousin!
I would appreciate knowing the name of your store because I cannot seem to find it. I collect vintage jewelry and ephemera.
Modern Day Merchant
Thank you for sharing! I appreciate you and the time you’ve spent posting these videos.
Glad you like them!
The box at the at the 10 minute mark is not a tool chest it is a fishing tackle box. The numbers on th eyelid are for measuring fish.
Thank your for video!!!👍
Sunflower broach is beautiful. Definitely will sell well!
That Givenchy pendant and chain are probably worth more than you think for costume jewelry. Be sure to do research on that one!
Hey from Joplin MO your Awesome
13:48 color is aurora borealis
LC is Liz Claiborne
Thank you Rusty! Great informative video and I love the Gibson's and the Martin! You will have to show them after their repairs!
Hi there, I would love to hear more about your scratch testing for K Gold and how you test to see if the stone is rhinestone, gemstone or diamond. I am learning a lot from you.
Great suggestion! We should put that in a video soon!
The wood boxes are cool!
Don't take your video down, Rusty. The comments help with your RUclips algorithm! That is the bright side of the comments.
Could the chip necklace be Amber chips? And the word you were looking for was Aurora Borealis Crystal. The amber chips would not be cold like stone or glass. For Amber Check under a black light it will glow. Amber will feel warm to touch to the touch like plastic
To test a pearl you gently draw it back and forth along the edge of a tooth, preferably one of the two upper front teeth. If it feels slightly gritty it's either a natural or a farmed pearl. Either way, it came from an oyster. An artificial pearl will feel smooth as glass.
Thanks for that ❤ 🇬🇧
The long dark brown drawer may be from an antique sewing machine. They had 2 drawers on each side.
I came across your channel a short time ago and I love it. The details of the information are amazing and fun to watch. In the jewelry segments, can you try to mention more the value of reselling the pieces? Thank you so much. 👍
Will do!
Thanks for sharing!
Our pleasure!
Thank you so much for all your information. Love your honesty and funniness
So nice of you. Thanks for watching Cousin!
Excellent! You an amazing Teacher.
Thank you! 😃
Hi there. Your Pearl bracelet is set with genuine Japanese cultured pearls of very good quality. It is make to resemble Mikimoto in designs however this is not Mikimoto; the worth here in U.K. I would sell £50to £70
Actually check on the reverse of the leaves for maker’s stamp. The bracelet is stunning . Great buy for 2 dollars, I would love to have it in my collection, the craftsmanship is amazing;
I love watching you because you teach me so much. Your the only person who may be able to help me with something? I own a beautiful Kramer N.Y bracelet. Mine is red and purple. It's a beautiful color! I can find many in the same style but I have NEVER seen these colors together. Is this a more unusual coloration or have I just not found one? Again, it's in perfect shape, missing no stones (they are all individually pronged) and very vibrant and beautiful colors. Thanks ahead of time for any advice you may have.
Thank you
You’ve Acually helped me so much to know what I’m buying from a friends online auction lol
I’ve paid high filler from some junk .
Glad I could help!
Can you show us your listing process? Do you hire someone? I struggle with making tbe listing process streamline. Takes me forever: ) Your amazing Rusty!
The small drawer would have come out of a sewing machine cabinet
You have so much knowledge on so many things ...been wondering where you are and looks like I missed a couple your uploads
Welcome back!
You find great pieces for only $2.00! I am jealous! Thanks
That Givenchy necklace will probably go for some decent money. Not pronounced like it looks -Zhee-vann-she. In 1980 it was still a pretty exclusive brand. Not sure about now.
I love your videos. I'm learning too.
We are glad to hear it. Welcome!
I’ve been looking through your videos on testers for authentic stones . And testing golds and silvers
I’ve looked up stone testers on line but have no idea what’s junk or not . There has to be a good one affordable
Learning to identify natural stones and separate them from lab grown and imitation pieces is something that takes some serious training and a few thousand dollars in equipment. If you are serious about it, I'd suggest you look up GIA (Gemological Institute of America). They are known as one of the best worldwide schools for gemological training. They have both on campus and correspondence training. Otherwise, with a few exceptions, your chance of learning how to consistently and accurately identify stones is pretty much non existent. There is no easy way. True, there are instruments available to test whether a stone is a natural diamond, or a substitute or synthetic diamond, but even that requires a bit of extra knowledge and experience. In case you wonder, I make jewelry and took the GIA correspondence course years ago, since I was buying gems in Thailand and from other suppliers.
Rusty, those iridescent stones are Aurora Borealis rhinestone.
Very interesting. You might want to get a loup for examining smaller items.
The Trifari white enamel and gold tone metal with flower design earrings will do better if you sell them by themselves. I have sold a pair like those on eBay for around $65
LC Liz Claiborne
Hi Rusty I love your channel and what soul Channel I have a question when do you think it's the right time to start a store I sell on eBay for about 7 or 8 months now not that much maybe 20 sold and 120 listed when should I get a regular store?
only you can know what's best for your business. Just realize that opening a brick and mortar store can bring a lot more overhead costs...rent for a space, furniture and items used to hold or display things, cash register, business insurance, employee costs, utility costs, and on and on. You need to determine if what you are selling is in demand, that the foot traffic is enough to sustain your business, if you have the capital up front to cover months of low sales, ...it's a lot to prepare for and a higher risk. People do it, but it's not for everyone.
@RustyTheReseller no, sorry I meant to pay for an ebay store, I'm a seller but don't have a store subscription yet!
Love watching your videos! Do you do your own listings?
Yes I do! I also have independent contractors who list for me from time to time. But mostly me.
I'm truly impressed. :-) You're such an inspiration. Thanks for sharing!
That big one is Monet.
Those long drawers could be from old treadle sewing machines.
Hey Rusty what’s your eBay store and do you happen to sell in any other platform ? 🙏😍💕❤️🌺
You are a good Guitar Player.
Kind words. I dabble..
How to find your store in EBay?
Lol I seen it
Re: shipping art-how do u ship luggage? Isn’t that a heavy charge? Also those antique clocks? They must be valuable, need some good packaging. How annoying!
yes shipping fragile or heavy objects is a pain, and can be too costly to do sometimes. UPS Ground usually has decent rates for items that are under 150lbs and less than 105" total (by adding length, width, and height)
What is the name of your eBay store??? I am in the mood for some Jewels! Love me some Jewels!
Modern Day Merchant. You can start there. We have another coming soon.
Ab crystals
Can you recommend a couple of books oh, that pictoraly show... many pieces are not necessarily Marked - might just be the country of origin maybe West Germany, but have very distinctive looking clip backs, say earrings????LAXVESPA-LOSANGELES
Go to your local library and get several books on loan. They will order then for you. If you find one that you really like to can try to a copy. Better look first.
Is that a banjo uke?
Yes indeed. 1927 Gibson UB-3
@@RustyTheReseller Thought so. I have one a little smaller, way too twangy sounding to play so it's a wall hanger. Looks cool though

I have a necklace with a hangtag that says Korea. Have you ever seen this or know anything about it?
It's usually an export mark. A lot of those were sold in malls and places in the 80s-2000s and had gold plate. Some were real gold so be sure to check it over.
@@possumfriend2335 Thanks so much! I have lots to learn and will certainly try to do my best to check it over good.
My mamaw had a brooch
"Well, if it was good enough for Mamaw..."
Brooches are awesome. I'm glad to see them becoming popular again with younger people. In the 90s when I was young and hitting all the thrift shops and Goodwills I didn't know how good I had it and thought it would always be that way but it was my grandparents' and great-grandparents' generation downsizing and donating all that wonderful old quality stuff. I wish I would've gotten all of it and stored it until now. 😂
Pure silver is 1000 parts out of 1000. Sterling silver is 925 parts out of 1000, the 75 other parts of 1000 is often nickel, used to bring strength to the metal. Pure silver, 1000, is very soft. Coin silver is a purer silver than Sterling, and it is soft. I had a teaspoon that I remember biting into when I was a child.
Now, your 950 silver has more silver in it than 925 sterling. It is thus more valuable !
I hope that you haven't sold it as costume or fashion jewelry!
Also, read about Vermeil, pronounced Vermay, French for silver. This is often sterling silver with gold plated over it to a certain thickness. Also, read about the qualities of gold plate and goldfill! Watch old RUclips episodes of BlueBusDave at flea markets. He is a picker, has an eBay store, but is now off RUclips. Great guy!
Am I the only one who started screaming at my screen when he said Givenchy??? This video is three months old but I hope someone told you what you had before you sold it for cheap. 😅
Not all alpaca jewelry is fake silver. Some is Sterling. It is actually any metal they can get to make their jewelry. They are high fashion artists though and alpaca not silver mostly is having high value because of high end quality artists. Of the jewelry
You talk too much
so do you.
