      That was the idea of them, which is why Napoleon equipped his guards with them. Our Guards got them as a battle honour after Waterloo.

    Questions for some kind person. Why do no guards at the gate sometimes salute, and on other occasions not?
    Why do two guards run from the rear to the flank the officer in charge ? Thanks in anticipation. Regards from Cornwall

    • @ChangingGuard
      @ChangingGuard  2 года назад +6

      They salute when it is an officer entering or leaving and also when the Guard march in or out of the barracks.
      The two soldiers, normally NCO's, who double forward are the Captains Escort,

    • @ChangingGuard

    Do the Corps of Drums ever play "Bugle marches" or is it only ever "Fife marches"?

    • @bugler75

      Generally in the Brigade of Guards the bugle is only used to sound duty calls. Bugle marches remain the preserve of the Rifles and the Royal Irish Regiment.

    • @ChangingGuard

      No, they wear what are called ammunition boots that have studded soles which amplifies the sound and their drill instills discipline which, although that may seem old fashioned to some, is essential in any infantry unit.
