  • A vfx breakdown for two of the shots in Pedestrian Revenge.
    If you're a fan of grunge on glass and want to experiment with those kinds of textures, check this site out:

    Alternately, do a Google image search - you'll want to get pictures of dirt/smudges/etc. on a black background to make your life easier.

    It makes the whole composition look better. For one the shot outside the car isn't overexposed and/or inside the car isn't underexposed. It also gives them more control over the footage they use.

    The words that are coming out of your mouths sound like magic, but I can't stop listening. They're hypnotising and make me want to create as well, even though I barely even get what some of the technical words mean!

    The wheel is actually going in the correct direction because of the stroboscopic effect. It is caused by the human eye only being able to see at roughly 24fps which means that when something is moving faster than that it will start to look blurry, when it gets to a certain speed it can begin to look like the wheel is moving backwards or in some cases not at all.

    The rotating backwards is due to the camera's frame rate, you see that sort of thing quite often in videos of wheels moving. At 3:45 he shows the shot of the wheels spinning that they took and you see it there. Heck, some wheel designs make it appear the wheel is rotating the wrong way to the naked eye.

    That's essentially the point actually. As an editor, you don't want people to notice that you put something in (unless it's like lightsabers or something). You want it look natural. If they notice anything, it's probably because it doesn't look natural enough to fool them.

    1. You should use the first driving footage for the reflection on the rear window.
    2. Mirror the second scene so the cars are driving on the right side.

    @lancevance12 The wheels are spinning in the correct direction, but the camera and monitor used to record and view would need to have a super high refresh rate in order to view it properly. That, or possibly tediously syncing the fps and the car speed. Next time your on the highway (in the passenger seat!) record the wheels of a car in your lane. The same thing will happen.

    Cameras don't record everything as fast as eyes can, so that's why in movies the car tires often look like they're going backwards. Next time you watch a movie with cars driving at top speeds, watch the rotation of the tires. Not all movies display this, but most do.

  • @jhodance
    @jhodance 12 лет назад

    no, if you've ever watched wheels on the highway, they look like they're spinning slowly backwards if you stare at them for a moment. it's an optical illusion, and they nailed the effect. seriously, look at highway wheels sometime.

  • @Collin326C

    freddew, how do you know what your FPS is because when i put GoPro footage into HitFilms, its really jittery and laggy

  • @bonfire402
    @bonfire402 12 лет назад

    that's a trick of your eyes. when you look at a wheel spinning really fast, when you relax it looks like it's going backward. to test this, create a simple wheel with spokes on powerpoint, then tell it to, for example ,spin 4000 degrees in 5 seconds clockwise. it will sometimes look like it's going counter-clockwise.

  • @Elwood19901
    @Elwood19901 12 лет назад

    Brandon you should try to blur freddie and the cars just a little bit and put some grain on it. They still look too clean and out of place. Also if you put a little color correction generally over the footage it will merge into the scene easier. A lens flare would help out here very well ;) Other than that Im amazed by the compositing stuff !

  • @Gigano
    @Gigano 12 лет назад

    Often when shooting a real rotating wheel, the time it takes for a wheel to make one full revolution is a bit more than the time it takes to capture one frame by the camera. Putting all frames together, this creates the illusion that the wheel is spinning in the opposite direction. Try watching some videos about an accelerating wheel being filmed, it'll flip rotating forwards and backwards throughout the acceleration.
