Many fond memories of going camping with my Parents and 2 brothers in our 16' Shasta Camper pulled by Mom's 55 Buick Roadmaster Stationwagon in the lated 50's and early 60's. Being a Military family Dad would take off 4 weeks every Summer and we just pick a direction to go camping, rather than a specific campground spot. I still Camp in my RV.
I had the most fantastic Steury camper, American but I bought it in the uk. I’ve looked at hundreds of modern campers, including 5th wheelers and they still don’t offer what our fantastic 8 birth Sturey provided. It was so much fun.
They are all so cool. Especially the ones with the Dutch doors. When I'm president of the world I'm gonna make it law that all houses and caravans must have Dutch doors 😁
#9- The Scout looked like it should have been used for Safari! #7- Higgins, sure looks milspec-ish. Well, sort of... #3- Flash Gordon beware, Ming's trailer is ready! #2- George Lucas, now we know what inspired the Empire's Battle Cruiser! It's not surprising that the European models are all small and the US companies made much larger. I remember living in Germany during the late '60's and all the roads were so narrow; a camper being towed would need to be as narrow as the car pulling it. "Dutch Doors..." I knew it was coming but had to laugh anyway! 😂
once again reacher,Love your site after a long day @ work,,and a bud,,LOVE THAT GLASTRON!,,remember those as a tike and the STARCRAFTS,,,keep them coming pal,,,
Great memories Reacher ! Have been trying to find any information on a very unique station wagon slide-in camper called a ClamCamper ! Was a fibreglass slide-in, with a rear tip-up with canvas sides ! Would love any photos of, and information on it. Would have been from late 60's early 70's era. Thanks everyone !
@@reacher6874 Thanks so much for your interest and willingness to help ! I am pretty sure it was manufactured in northern Indiana, like so many of the same era in the industry.
Dont remember the name of company, but i believe they were from Parker Colorado or somewhere just south of Denver. They were made in the sixties. The were cars chassis with like a overhead camper
These are awsome. Some I'd call antique or vintage. I suppose horse drawn covered wagons were first caravan (actually 1900BC). Your videos are well done. Subs go to 1M soon I hope.
My parents had a higgens until 2009 had in most of my life in like 2007 the canvas was going to crap so dad found a tent the exact same size cut a hole in the bottom of the tent and bungeed/ strapped it down dads friend bought it andnow uses it as a hunting stand
Ok, I know, three comments in one video is extreme... I really love the tiny houses and you do a lot with campers, and I love your channel too, some of the tiny houses have off the charts tech in them. Would love to see your take on the current tiny craze. (FYI, my family has had cabins for years and they are pretty much the same as tiny houses in my book.)
After seeing the modern RV ad that came before my veiwing of this video, I can see how different things were back then! I mean, where are all the tv's? XD
Ok ale czemu nie ma polskiej przyczepy Niewiadów N126 ? Ona jest produkowana od 1973 do dzisiaj! W nie zmienionej formie! I faktycznie reszta materiału w filmie jest super.

Without the Dreamers, there are no doers....
As a kid I converted my soapbox Derby car into a pickup with a camper shell
would have liked to see airstream
Interesting thanks for sharing Minds Eye. Strange to see where all RV’s predecessors came from.
Ja...
Da kommen Erinnerungen aus den USA von meiner Kindheit..!
Schade das nicht mehr so einfach und qualitativ hochwertigen gebaut wird..!
Is the roadyacht still in use
you didnt mention the Cox camper which are still around and quite unique .
#⁴ was really interesting. Maybe the precursor to the current tent trailers?
Definitely
I'm surprise Eriba Puck caravan didn't make your list.
After seeing the modern RV ad that came before my veiwing of this video, I can see how different things were back then!

1970's steury houseboat was advertised as land and sea, sometimes used as an r.v.
Looking at the thumbnail, #2, I thought Reacher might have been just having fun with photoshop. I stand corrected.

Too bad there weren't more of that Scout camper. Does it have Irma Hayes appliances?
Why? Why? Why? What is it about your voice Reacher? I hear it and all I want to do is listen! So good to hear you again!

Interesting. Was the Higgins the same company that built landing craft during the Second World War?
That was my first thought, both from New Orleans
