- “The only way Ukraine would be able to accept, politically, losing large chunks of its territory is if that came with a territorial guarantee.”
Ukraine could permanently abandon Crimea in exchange for Nato membership, says journalist and author Peter Apps.

Ukraine is the aggressor , do reseach
They should never give up Crimea. Stay strong Ukraine💜
F🤟 CK that I Ain't Lying 🤥🤟😎
Crimea was always Russian territory, it was only gifted by Khrushchev in 1954 but was never ratified, it's populated by 90% of ethnic Russians, there are no buildings, structures or roads built by Ukrainians, Artek an International Children's Center Camp in Gurzuf on the Crimean Peninsula where thousands of children from all over the world book a place there every year, Google it. Built in 1925 by Russians, Run by Russians and vastly modernised by Russians, Ukrainians don't have any reason to try and take back what was always Russia's, in any case they are not welcomed there.
@@russellspeed1693 LIAR! GLORY TO UKRAINE!
It was never really theirs. Not really.
@@davemccrillis1470 With what alternative? The Crimeans were told very clearly that russia would make it impossible for them to function as an independent country. And they were never given the option of staying with Ukraine. And true outcome of the referendum has never been revealed. No-one beleive the official numbers, certainly not Kremlin (except in their official claims).
Ben Hodges used to repeat that Crimea was what this war was all about. Many, many US commanders agreed with him then, and now. Take Crimea, Russia freaks out.
They were wrong then, weren't they?

As long as Russia controls Crimea, Odesa port remains vulnerable to blockade of the world’s grain export route from Ukraine.

Don't worry Odessa is part of Novorussiya, it will be liberated
@@samwilliams9352 Aha. Russian troll. Your knowledge of Ukrainian language and geography is poor. Odesa ( one S in Ukrainian ) is part of Ukraine.
@@lauriew3517 If Russia continues to illegally occupy Crimea it can blackmail the world by blocking Ukrainian grain exports. Like it already did in 2022. ‘nuff said.
What an outrage and completely nonsensical. Yes, I am sure we would achieve "peace in our time".
He's actually not wrong. A fair deal is one that all sides are unhappy with. If Russia were forced to agree to NATO signing on as a 3rd party to a peace deal, immediately admitting Ukraine to NATO, and they were also forced to return all 4 of the illegally annexed oblasts in exchange for keeping (and officially ceding) Crimea, then that would be a reasonably fair deal. That's not a "peace in our time" deal. That's Russia accepting a strategic defeat.
@@mattt3555 I don't think you understand history and neither does this person whoever he is. NOT a strategic defeat. Moronic idea based on complete ignorance of the economics and geography of the region! If Ukraine loses Crimea, Russia will permanently have control over the entrance to the Azov Sea where Ukraine's major sea ports are. That way, instead of the Kerch Strait being an international water way, Russia has a permanent economic nose around Ukraine's neck. Ukraine needs to export grain and lots of other things to world markets to recover from the war, and it cannot do that without Crimea.
If the war continues they will lose Odessa too and then they’re landlocked. They don’t have to agree to this, they just can’t do anything to stop it.
Heard of a place called Odessa? In any case Russia will allow Ukrainian grain exports from other ports it controls if duty is paid.
Err, the Kerch strait and Sea of Azov aren't international waters
they did it fine between 2014 and 2022
@@TheTororistthey didn't. The Russians made transit very difficult.
Giving over chrimea is impossible.
Stealing territory by the means of force is prohibited by international law.
PERIOD!
Tell that to Israel they have been doing it since 1967
They didn't take it by force ,it was done legally and it was needed to protect the people
Where do you find those "experts"? It was never about the territory, but about Ukraine as an independent country. Russia cannot exist with democratic Ukraine on the same continent. Please do not invite such idiots anymore.
The idea of abandoning Crimea is not palatable. Crimea is the key to control over access in the Black Sea. Russia can't be left in Crimea as they will always use it to stifle Ukraine and control its ability to conduct commerce and military action through the Black Sea.
Ukraine will be a landlocked nation by the end of this conflict ....full stop . Start living in reality.
Sacrifice your own land - not mine
To the last man, huh ? That’s fine by the Russians
Guys, vote this one down! Its going to take a week or more to get the stink of appeasement out of my clothes after watching 2 minutes of this fool.
It is exactly what Ukraine should never do, under no circumstances. Ukrainian Crimea is a condition sine qua non for future economic progress and safety of the invaded country.
Ukraine started the conflict in 2014 , now the people are being liberated
NO! Crimea is Ukraine. Ruzzia must leave.
Crimea was merely attached to Ukraine for administrative reasons by the Soviet Union. It is Russian and comparatively few Ukrainians live there.
You are delusional. You need to be on the war front to say this lol . Ukraine is giving up 20% of its land wake up
@@dalecrocker3213 so right... let them know 👏
@@akinwaleakinola1787 They already do.
@@dalecrocker3213 No, it was Turkish before it was Russian and is now Ukrainian. Russia removed the Crimean Tatars and moved Russians in to replace them to make it 'Russian', just as it has done to so many others and is trying to do to Ukraine, Georgia, Moldova etc. etc. It also only employs Russians ( imported from Russia) at Sevastopol naval base which is a large part of the Crimean population. Do you know how many residents of Crimea voted for the pro Russian party in 2010 ( the last one before Russia invaded.... Russian Unity only got 4% of the vote - yes 4%... so obviously few residents of Crimea wanted to be part of Russia before it was invaded.....

Nope.

For the love of Heaven, when will the concept of appeasement finally be put to rest .How many times do we have to point to Neville Chamberlain 's folly?A just and moral peace is the restoration of ALL Ukrainian territory, which includes Crimea. This will also liberate the ethnic Tartars who are once again facing oppression and deportation.
Why should they give up Crimea, it was illegally taken !
Never
Crimeans would rather be governed by an autocratic mafia state or a burgeoning democracy attemping to establish the rule of law, respect for human rights & national sovereignty?
Didn't we hear that "Crimea is all Putin wants" in 2014? Are we just going to repeat this 5, 6 years down the road?
How can you call sacrificing Crimea a win? Dumb!
Sounds like the ghost of Neville Chamberlain has returned with more appeasement.
Gifting territory to bloodthirsty despots sends the wrong signal
I wonder how this journalist would have presented his case for the UK and its allies when London was being levelled and their troops were being evacuated from Dunkirk?
This is nonsense to give Crimea to Russia!
Nope, nope, nope. Ukraine’s ability to operate independently would be permanently compromised because Russia would insist on the Sea of Azov coast.
No, no and no. This expert can go the way of the ruzzian military ship. You know what I mean.
What makes this man think that Ukraine would agree to this? And what makes him think Russia would agree to this? Why should we reward Russia’s bad behaviour by giving them Ukrainian sovereign territory? What kind of a signal will that send to China? Moreover, Russia will never leave the land bridge they have created for the purpose of securing the logistics of Crimea - and that essentially means keeping all of their territorial gains in Ukraine. Is this what this man is advocating?
Sacrifice Crimea? F that! What are you, a Russian sympathizer?
The nonsense from Times Radio now exhibits a different flavour but is still just as silly as before.

What an idiotic idea! Total BS!
😮 What a defeatist proposition. Ukraine needs Crimea for strategic & economic viability.
Paying Danegeld never worked. Crimea in Russian hands blocks Ukrainian access to the sea and leaves them surrounded. Who will invest in Ukraine in such circumstances?
I absolutely don't agree on the ceding Crimea to Russia. At present, Crimea does not bring any advantage for Russia. The Black Sea fleet had to flee from Sevastopol to Novorossisk and further on to Georgia, so that Russia does not control the Black Sea any more. Every other day a greater Russian military object gets taken out by Ukraine, the supply via both the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov is almost impossible and supply over the land is hazardous and causes many losses. Russians themselves created a shortage of water by blowing up the dam of Khakovky. Greedy Russians who stole plots of Ukrainian property of Ukrainians in Crimea now desperately wish to return back home but have no more route of escape. The higher tier officers already left the peninsula leaving only plain soldiers behind. Securing what is left of the Kerch bridge consumes a big share of Russian air defence capabilities (in vain, I would guess). Crimea has become a big burden for Russia but Putin can not cede it because he is anxious about his reputation. he has to spend a lot of his ressources on Crimea but he can not control it any more any way. Crimea became a trap for Putin. Why give up this advantage?
No no no never give up or Putin will march across Europe

I think this is barely relevant. Right from the offset Russia has stated peace involves no NATO and 'demilitarisation' (falsely claiming Ukraine was a threat, in reality aiming Russia can always threated Ukraine). This has not changed, and unless it does security guarantees aren't a means to peace, but after it. If security guarantees were there in exchange for land, if Russia agreed to accept Ukraine in NATO in exchange for land ... who knows what Ukraine would have given up to avoid further war - that'd be for Ukrainians to decide - but that's not been the realistic offer so far.
The people of Crimea voted to leave the USSR in 1991. At the time, the question was to leave and become a separate country, but the parliament chose to join Ukraine.
So maybe it could become an independent country with no military presence of either country.
I know one general who would totally disagree, Ben Hodges.

You can’t make a deal to be allowed to join NATO . Every NATO member Country has to agree to allow Ukraine to join. Hungary for one

Turkey and America don't want union NATO
Leaving Crimea in Russian hands would permanently complicate Ukraine's maritime trade. The Russians would use or make up any excuse to interfere as their ultimate goal is to make a Ukrainian nation unviable economically. Think again.
Neither Putin nor Ukraine would accept that.
Definitely not! They shouldn’t have to give up any part of Ukraine. 🇺🇦🇦🇺
Sometimes peace with security, dignity, liberty, prosperity and free communities of ordinary people must be won, not negotiated. The west has the capability to provide Ukraine with the means to this war economically and on the battlefield, as much as the Kremlin and its allies can go on supplying their forces at the whim of their allies.
Unfortunately European Union does not have its own defence force. It had planned years ago, but the British had vetoed it.
Crimea has no water, it comes from Kherson. If the occupiers keep Crimea without Kherson and the Dnipro canal it will always be an unstable situation with Ukraine able to shut the water off - one of the reasons russia wanted the land bridge - because Ukraine cut the water in 2014. Crimea must be Ukrainian but de-militarized.
Ukraine needs Crimea for its future economic well-being.
