  • “The only way Ukraine would be able to accept, politically, losing large chunks of its territory is if that came with a territorial guarantee.”
Ukraine could permanently abandon Crimea in exchange for Nato membership, says journalist and author Peter Apps.

Crimea was always Russian territory, it was only gifted by Khrushchev in 1954 but was never ratified, it's populated by 90% of ethnic Russians, there are no buildings, structures or roads built by Ukrainians, Artek an International Children's Center Camp in Gurzuf on the Crimean Peninsula where thousands of children from all over the world book a place there every year, Google it. Built in 1925 by Russians, Run by Russians and vastly modernised by Russians, Ukrainians don't have any reason to try and take back what was always Russia's, in any case they are not welcomed there.

Moronic idea based on complete ignorance of the economics and geography of the region! If Ukraine loses Crimea, Russia will permanently have control over the entrance to the Azov Sea where Ukraine's major sea ports are. That way, instead of the Kerch Strait being an international water way, Russia has a permanent economic nose around Ukraine's neck. Ukraine needs to export grain and lots of other things to world markets to recover from the war, and it cannot do that without Crimea.

I absolutely don't agree on the ceding Crimea to Russia. At present, Crimea does not bring any advantage for Russia. The Black Sea fleet had to flee from Sevastopol to Novorossisk and further on to Georgia, so that Russia does not control the Black Sea any more. Every other day a greater Russian military object gets taken out by Ukraine, the supply via both the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov is almost impossible and supply over the land is hazardous and causes many losses. Russians themselves created a shortage of water by blowing up the dam of Khakovky. Greedy Russians who stole plots of Ukrainian property of Ukrainians in Crimea now desperately wish to return back home but have no more route of escape. The higher tier officers already left the peninsula leaving only plain soldiers behind. Securing what is left of the Kerch bridge consumes a big share of Russian air defence capabilities (in vain, I would guess). Crimea has become a big burden for Russia but Putin can not cede it because he is anxious about his reputation. he has to spend a lot of his ressources on Crimea but he can not control it any more any way. Crimea became a trap for Putin. Why give up this advantage?

This has not changed, and unless it does security guarantees aren't a means to peace, but after it. If security guarantees were there in exchange for land, if Russia agreed to accept Ukraine in NATO in exchange for land ... who knows what Ukraine would have given up to avoid further war - that'd be for Ukrainians to decide - but that's not been the realistic offer so far.

You can’t make a deal to be allowed to join NATO . Every NATO member Country has to agree to allow Ukraine to join. Hungary for one
will vote against Ukraine joining NATO.

Leaving Crimea in Russian hands would permanently complicate Ukraine's maritime trade. The Russians would use or make up any excuse to interfere as their ultimate goal is to make a Ukrainian nation unviable economically. Think again.

Sometimes peace with security, dignity, liberty, prosperity and free communities of ordinary people must be won, not negotiated. The west has the capability to provide Ukraine with the means to this war economically and on the battlefield, as much as the Kremlin and its allies can go on supplying their forces at the whim of their allies.

Unfortunately European Union does not have its own defence force. It had planned years ago, but the British had vetoed it.

Crimea has no water, it comes from Kherson. If the occupiers keep Crimea without Kherson and the Dnipro canal it will always be an unstable situation with Ukraine able to shut the water off - one of the reasons russia wanted the land bridge - because Ukraine cut the water in 2014. Crimea must be Ukrainian but de-militarized.

"You assist an evil system most effectively by obeying its orders and decrees. An evil system never deserves such allegiance. Allegiance to it means partaking of the evil. A good person will resist an evil system with his or her whole soul." - Mahatma Gandhi
"Obeying is a form of violence because we obey out of fear; if man were not afraid there would be no need to obey at all, he would function sanely and rationally. But human beings are so afraid that their whole activity is irrational, contradictory and imitative." - J. Krishnamurti

Mike pompeo is awesome, and I don't know why people continue to call Trump unpredictable... As he tells you exactly what he's thinking and he did nothing unpredictable the 4 years he was in office. Never did anything dramatic that no one expected... I'm not sure why everyone still continues to say the same thing they said In 2015 when it's been proven that's not the case.

I like this channel but have been tracking it for accuracy which has been disappointing. Most of what is discussed here amounts to hear-say and hollow predictions. The hosts of these shows are interesting people but it looks increasingly like they are just pumping out content that gets readership. Great headlines, good story tellers, but in fact most has not panned out. This headline conflicts 100% with many credible analysts and the actual piece-by-piece tactics of the long term Ukrainian strategy. Just saying...

I wonder how much squealing Peter would do if someone claimed everything he owned and tossed him out on the street. He'd probably expect some help to reverse the situation. His theoretical world view would change things alright. Every bully, warlord and terrorist would see it as a green light. Not counting Russia, China and Iran. Just remember where people go to to try and have a better life. It's not those places.
