Kabob - Any suggestions or builds for a 2s 03 3" toothpick? Just got into the system and would love 4k onboard on a toothpick. Would like to keep it to 2s but not sure if its gonna be a hog
I would strongly discourage attempting to cram an O3 unit on a TP3 or TP3-like frame. It's just not gonna fit well. I'm sure there's some wizardry that can be done to get it to barely work out but I seriously do not recommend it. Go with a 3.5" platform. Even 2s on that will be fine but ideally 3s or 4s is best on 3.5".

DJI makes you spend $300 for a $60 radio. Then DJI makes a new air unit and make it not work with their $300 radio. No, it will work with their new $200 radio though. Total actual value of both radios combined is maybe $150, but they want you spending $500. Why? So you "save money" by not having to purchase a $15 receiver. Lol. Uh okay!
What about latency? Missed that part in the review. It's even higher than on the old 120fps goggles, right? I'm still running analog and range + latency is the two things holding me back

Quick question if I use o3 air unit with googles 2 and controller 2 and lose video conection. Will the RC lose conection aswell? And what will the drone do ? :( I am thinking about getting a drone and going full dji lol but I don't know if I should get a crossfire in my drone and just using o3 with googles 2 just to be safe in case of losing conection
In this case there's two links I believe. 2.4g for the controller and 5.8g for the video. I haven't gotten anywhere near losing signal so I couldn't comment. It's pretty good about things in the last gen.
The first gen goggles V1 vs V2 are not different enough to even comment on. I have both. I prefer the latest goggles but the fit is absolutely awful. With some foam trickery, I'm able to get them on my face pretty good but it is tempting to just keep using the previous gen goggles because they fit so damn well with my current foam. The screen on the new goggles is so much better however that it's hard to pass up. Right now, if the nee goggles don't fit your face, I wouldn't get them. It's hard to overstate how poorly the new goggles fit human faces. Not to mention the controller is useless but few use the DJI controller anyway. The O3 unit is fine. Camera is better but it's not like the previous camera was bad in any imaginable way. I do however like the onboard recording of the O3 and I'm going to start using it to see if I can omit a GoPro for general flying. That's maybe the only benefit here and it's yet to be seen if it's actually a benefit...
Quick note: There is a really high pitch tone coming thru on your video. Most probably don't hear it, but it's there. Maybe something is on nearby emitting it
interesting. I don't hear it on my speaker/monitors. I'll make sure to put a high pitch tuned low pass filter on my audio moving forward. Thanks for letting me know.
This looks awesome. I was into FPV years ago (started with SimonK and Naze32 stuff haha) and thinking of a long range quad system. This might be a nice fit for a (4") lightweight build without a GoPro... Or 7" with GoPro. So much to catch up on!
It's not the foam that's the issue. It's the entire shape of the goggles unfortunately. There's no easy way to deal with it because of how awfully it's shaped.
At 8:20, the video shows poor quality video from the goggles 2, this can be fixed as seen in this clip: ruclips.net/user/clipUgkxO8jqildI0oHM3e564_8Wlhi5XOpxaJOM
Right and it was still that good. It does change a little when armed but not much. Overall the message is the same. Gloriously beautiful picture. Beautiful goggles with a terrible fit you'll need to work out. Useless controller
My problem with the old V2 goggles (not newest oleds) is that the inside or corners/edges look blurry. If I adjust the IPD out to their max it helps with the outside almost making it perfect but the inside goes a little blurring as a result. I find that if I remove the padding(purchased from RDQ for 11 bucks) I can almost see 100% without any blurriness. Like, so little I wouldn't have even noticed the issue. Maybe my ipd is too wide or my eyes are too sunken in. I need to experiment with some felt covered 3d prints using some super soft 85 rated TPU. Surprised it hasn't been done before but after looking I only see people talking about light leak which isn't an issue for me as I got a large head.
Maybe reduce the FOV. Like Bob said he does. I started with 70% FOV because 100% was like flying in IMAX... too much info on the screen at once. I then got used to 70%, and switched to 80%. That's probably the sweet spot for me. Big, but not so immersive it's distracting. I've tried 90% And it's good too, after you get used to it, but 80% is best for me.
I'm not a fan of the controller either, my x-lite is 1000x better & the only frame of reference I have form factor wise. My favorite/most used radio is my OG Tango & I prefer full size gimbals any day. Still use crossfire on almost all my DJI builds & have some quads on elrs as well 👌🏼
I'm in the camp that believes that it's mostly snake oil from MIT however there is one viable take away which is joining prop tips. I'm half working with gemFan to test this and there's really only one design that looks like it might be a tiny bit better than a triblade and more likely better than a quad blade. Still yet to be proven. For now, it's snake oil until proven otherwise
What you're talking about at 12:20 is totally possible with the original system and it's how I actually use it. All you need to do is replace the stock 2.1mm lens with a 1.7mm or 1.8mm depending on your preference.
Right, I forgot to mention it here but I assume someone at DJI thought this was a good idea because the goggles only accept 2S and nothing else. They didn't want anyone using a more typical barrel and blowing the goggles. I'm sure there will be aftermarket buck voltage regulator wires coming soon.
I also love the simplicity of only having one antenna on the quad so here's an idea - Most radio's these days have a USB joystick interface for sims, and the Goggles 2 / V2 both have a USB C port, so what if DJI simply added a USB Joystick input/passthrough mode to the air unit SBUS output - That way you you could use whatever fully programmable radio you wanted with the DJI link! That'd be the best of both worlds! Downside would be having a cable between Goggles/Radio but that's a price I'd happily pay!
Yeah the overall shape and fit was really good for a very wide variety of hand sizes. Also had lots of room inside for a totally full size gimbal. Even small hands would work to reach the whole gimbal range. So sad the company I was working with went out of business and took my money with them.
Hey Bob, glad to see you back! So, is the QX7 with the hall gimbals your daily driver controller? The white one with the zebra stripes you showed in your video... I have an 03 air unit in the way, but from what I've seen from you and others, it's quite spectacular! Love my Vistas too... Rock solid! A great time to be in FPV!!! 😎🤘
For everyone who bought the very first DJI FPV Kit that came out.. with a Vista and such. Do I need to upgrade my first gen DJI FPV Controller (big one) and Googles? Or will the FIRST GEN Gear work with the O3 Unit as well? I gave up on 3rd party radios with the first gen as it was suitable, but I will refuse to buy the tiny crap controller they sell now.. :/
You cant use the big black controller used with the first air unit so you will need to use the grey controller used with fpv or another aftermarket like elrs….. the upgrade is badass
I wanna go digital so baddd am trying to get the goggles first I think I had my fun with analog after two years the levels are asking for digital just need to afford it now lmao
I haven't seen any fogging at all. I also have no foam on mine so lots of air goes in and out. I forgot to talk about the light leak but it's a non issue at least for me. The internals of the goggle are so dark that it doesn't matter
that'll be a fun combination the set and forget dji together with the always another setting to tweak ELRS are you still searching for a slow cinewhoop? the 3.5" RaceWhoop based on FreeZillions design with 1900kv and 4s goes pretty slow and have you tried the Caddx Walnut? probably still not as good as a Hero, but on its own it looks quite good
16x9 no doubt looks best, but it’s not suitable for bashing in bando or tight places or close proximity. You loose quite a bit of picture in comparison with 4:3. After all 16:9 is a cropped and stretched image taken from 4:3. I wish we could have the whole picture in 16:9 without a crop.
It must really need the new goggles to shine. I bought the new 03 Air Unit and used it with the V2 goggles. I just didn't get the "wow" factor that most people seem to get. I'm honestly thinking about buying an extra pair of goggles and putting back a few extra Nebula Pro's just so I'm covered for the long run.
I agree. I've had old dji setup since the beginning and the first time I flew o3 airunit and the new goggles I was shocked. The new goggles are amazing. Just can't wait for face foam options

I hit the like button for the honesty in the beginning.
the worst product dji made is that remote. I would never recommend that to anyone. Failsafed on me 50ft away 3 times in a week.
Well I'd say it's awful because the gimbals are made for ants
This looks awesome. I was into FPV years ago (started with SimonK and Naze32 stuff haha) and thinking of a long range quad system. This might be a nice fit for a (4") lightweight build without a GoPro... Or 7" with GoPro. So much to catch up on!
Are you going to offer a 3 conductor cable and plug for the Goggles 2 Bob?
Maybe one day. Does it not exist from someone already? The battery situation for these goggles is a bit ridiculous
I own O3 but the Hero8 footage at the end of the video is much smoother and more pleasing to watch ...
it's damn good that tht O3 can even be in the same ballpark as a GoPro
the entire world is complaining about the foam and no one is making good foam. Simply one of the easiest things to do ....
It's not the foam that's the issue. It's the entire shape of the goggles unfortunately. There's no easy way to deal with it because of how awfully it's shaped.
Best review i saw man
Thanks for the super informative work 🖤
The controller suck. I feel you. I also hate wiring in receivers but I’m headed down that road
At 8:20, the video shows poor quality video from the goggles 2, this can be fixed as seen in this clip: ruclips.net/user/clipUgkxO8jqildI0oHM3e564_8Wlhi5XOpxaJOM
You're absolutely right. Totally forgot that. Thanks
@@Kabab No problem! I think that setting could be a game changer for enjoying the new system.
What product were you using to stop the light bleed in the nose area on your V2 goggles please?
It was the default foam. I just cut it up and taped it where I needed it.
how does the lowlight performance compare in the goggle view?
Same it better
The first comparison 03 was only at 7mbps unarmed
Right and it was still that good. It does change a little when armed but not much. Overall the message is the same. Gloriously beautiful picture. Beautiful goggles with a terrible fit you'll need to work out. Useless controller
If you really aren’t to keen on dji just send me the goggles and air unit?? That sounds like the best to me ?
Oh I'm very keen
@@Kabab haha
My problem with the old V2 goggles (not newest oleds) is that the inside or corners/edges look blurry. If I adjust the IPD out to their max it helps with the outside almost making it perfect but the inside goes a little blurring as a result. I find that if I remove the padding(purchased from RDQ for 11 bucks) I can almost see 100% without any blurriness. Like, so little I wouldn't have even noticed the issue. Maybe my ipd is too wide or my eyes are too sunken in. I need to experiment with some felt covered 3d prints using some super soft 85 rated TPU. Surprised it hasn't been done before but after looking I only see people talking about light leak which isn't an issue for me as I got a large head.
you could also try the foaming tpu
I cannot get anywhere close to seeing almost the entire screen with no blur. But it's not needed either so it's fine.
I wish DJI have made 2 RC variants, like proper one with full ish gimbals and joystick style.
I have the dji FPV so finally I can use the controller for something else haha
that you ,its a great controller
I'm not a fan of the controller either, my x-lite is 1000x better & the only frame of reference I have form factor wise. My favorite/most used radio is my OG Tango & I prefer full size gimbals any day. Still use crossfire on almost all my DJI builds & have some quads on elrs as well 👌🏼
Agreed small gimbals are dumb
fogging issue puts me off. There is zero anti-fogging in these goggles.
The DJI goggles don't fog at all for me.
like having a mini drive wheel in your car LOL
They might as well just hit up Nintendo for their unused N64 controller gimbals.
妈的,终于更新了
Digital…. In order of preference
DJI
Walksnail
hdZero
How about latency?
Non issue. Could not tell any issue at all. Just like the previous system
Dji def has some magic sauce with these….. wow its just badass
Ooooh so its not just me concerning the controller, good to know!
Great review… still running 5.8 analog… but wow looks greay
Maybe someone already said it, but if you swipe down on the pad you get a small goggle menu on the top with a record button and some other settings.
Yeah I just found that this morning too. Dumb me.
What about thoroidal props?
I'm in the camp that believes that it's mostly snake oil from MIT however there is one viable take away which is joining prop tips. I'm half working with gemFan to test this and there's really only one design that looks like it might be a tiny bit better than a triblade and more likely better than a quad blade. Still yet to be proven. For now, it's snake oil until proven otherwise
Man ur vidoes remind me of the good ole days lol
Man, every-time i want to buy a DJI unit, my wallet just runs away somehow lol
Have a great week ahead and keep on flying
The V1 is now gonna be cost effective and still better than anything else
@@Kabab Did you try the walksnail?
ordering my dji goggles 2 in January and 2 air units
Bobs back!! good info, like always.
how insane !🤩
What you're talking about at 12:20 is totally possible with the original system and it's how I actually use it. All you need to do is replace the stock 2.1mm lens with a 1.7mm or 1.8mm depending on your preference.
Cost is about 9dollars and super easy to do.
What about the bigger latency of the O3? Have you noticed it?
I haven't noticed any latency difference from the Vista
im waiting this Bob 😀
I also love the simplicity of only having one antenna on the quad so here's an idea - Most radio's these days have a USB joystick interface for sims, and the Goggles 2 / V2 both have a USB C port, so what if DJI simply added a USB Joystick input/passthrough mode to the air unit SBUS output - That way you you could use whatever fully programmable radio you wanted with the DJI link! That'd be the best of both worlds! Downside would be having a cable between Goggles/Radio but that's a price I'd happily pay!
I wish you could have released your transmitter, the size looked perfect!
The xlite or whatever the smaller taranis shaped one is the one I use mainly
@@Kabab It has full sized gimbals?
For everyone who bought the very first DJI FPV Kit that came out.. with a Vista and such.
Do I need to upgrade my first gen DJI FPV Controller (big one) and Googles? Or will the FIRST GEN Gear work with the O3 Unit as well?
I gave up on 3rd party radios with the first gen as it was suitable, but I will refuse to buy the tiny crap controller they sell now.. :/
You cant use the big black controller used with the first air unit so you will need to use the grey controller used with fpv or another aftermarket like elrs….. the upgrade is badass
They are not compatible :(((
I wanna go digital so baddd am trying to get the goggles first I think I had my fun with analog after two years the levels are asking for digital just need to afford it now lmao
Get the DJI v1. It's still better than anything else out there
@@Kabab got a buddy selling me his v2 for 300 might jump on them
There is foam for them now I ordered mine on ebay
Any links on where we can get some if that goggle foam to try?
Waiting on manufacturing right now.
Great vídeo 👌
There is talk about fogging of the goggle 2. What is your take on that?
I haven't seen any fogging at all. I also have no foam on mine so lots of air goes in and out. I forgot to talk about the light leak but it's a non issue at least for me. The internals of the goggle are so dark that it doesn't matter
Do you enjoy digging with your quad ? 🤣
😂 it's how I search for treasure
that'll be a fun combination
the set and forget dji together with the always another setting to tweak ELRS
are you still searching for a slow cinewhoop? the 3.5" RaceWhoop based on FreeZillions design with 1900kv and 4s goes pretty slow
and have you tried the Caddx Walnut? probably still not as good as a Hero, but on its own it looks quite good
Yeah still working on the slowest slow. It's quite difficult to move extremely slowly.
Yeah still working on the slowest slow. It's quite difficult to move extremely slowly.
@@Kabab considering the ballistic coefficient probably helps
that would mean low weight (which the RaceWhoop isn't) and high drag
Disagree 16x9 the best!
Off to the gulag with you
Same here! Would never fly in 4:3. Don't wanna feel like watching TV in the 80s. 😁💯
16x9 no doubt looks best, but it’s not suitable for bashing in bando or tight places or close proximity. You loose quite a bit of picture in comparison with 4:3. After all 16:9 is a cropped and stretched image taken from 4:3. I wish we could have the whole picture in 16:9 without a crop.
just grab the the new dji controller internals and implant em into taranis lite housing....shouldn't be that hard...
Would be amazing if that worked.
@@Kabab why not? if you don't plan to use it anyway you can sacrifice it...
Definitely needs the new goggles to take advantage. The old goggles screen is not nearly as capable
Yeah man you Need new goggles for sure! If not its really a waste
I agree. I've had old dji setup since the beginning and the first time I flew o3 airunit and the new goggles I was shocked. The new goggles are amazing. Just can't wait for face foam options
So would you recommend the switch to the new lighter goggles from a DJI v1?
Not totally necessary because the V1 is still better than anything else by a long shot. I love the V1 still. If you've got a bunch of cash then sure
@@Kabab Thanks very much!
Kebab I wanted to know why that’s ur name, are you middle eastern?
Yep. Name is Babak....Kabab
Lol )) I always thought that you are a fan of Shish Kabab 😅🙈
Well shit. This is going to be expensive.
Yeah that's for frikin sure
Awesome review thank you.
I really wish this system gets put into a sub 250g cruiser for 20min+ flights.
Flywoo Explorer
@@chrisbee5481 lion pack on it takes it well over 250g 😥
@@engizmo I guess you're not into building or modifying yourself.
An alternative sub250 would be the rekon35 as a BNF.
I built my own 4.5" sub 200g AUW with rcinpower 1207 5000kv on 2S Lion.
To keep it sub250 AUW you can take maximum 3 18650 Li-Ion.
There are Lipo's that have nearly the same energy density as Li-Ion. Check out GNB HV 70c line. 1700mah is the bigges cell they offer.
@@chrisbee5481 thanks.
Yeah not into building. Prefer to stick to flying and repairing as needed.
Thanks for sharing your build specs and battery alternatives.
I hope some makers make some similar.
Yoo, what good, Bob. Are you ever coming back online. Im starting to think you're flossing everyone who's in your area 🤔
Working on some super intesting things I'll be coming back with.
@@Kabab thats good to hear.
I agree on so many things here . I love my dji v1 system and trans . Hate open source headaches for control link . And the trans2 . Wonder if there is a way of putting bigger gimbals will fit into trans2 or if put the guts of trans2 into trans1 .. would just be easier if they made them all cross compatible. Vista,t1,t2,v1,v2,g2 the whole lot.
It would seem a bigger possibility would be to transplant the insides of the DJI controller into a different one with bigger gimbals
Flying in 16:9 feels better to me, it feels more immersive. I just switch to 4:3 right before landing since I fly with high uptilt
Good to see you back. Always interesting to get another engineers perspective....
you still flying? hit me up. lets rip.
Of course. Just have such limited time for it all. Couple things I'm working on that I think you'd be quite intrigued by. Not FPV related but using some stuff from FPV.
@@Kabab haha. iv seen so many bizarre inquiries from your facebook feed i though youd left the hobby in pursuit of other things. im still flying across the street at apollo. been a while since i flew that park.
The gimbal thing, I have small fingers, a normal gimbal like the X7 ,(the radio I use) is too much for me, I have to extend uncomfortably all I can the range on my fingers to get to the edges. I use very short sticks to compensate. I never tried those small gimbals though.
Totally understand but this situation is really super touchy
Same here... I'm more precise with the zorro than with the QX7... With the Taranis, I had to mess with the rates to have enough rotation speed without deflecting to the max which I never reached. Now with the Zorro I had to learn to push my sticks more frankly and unlearn the Taranis habit :)))
Hey man those short sticks will def make you compensate a lot!
Wish they would send us stuff lol.we reached out to them as I teach kids and asked for bit of help.instead good friends and reviewers gal kremmer.lee painless360.syncfpv.orqa and others donated.great work as always brother
