I just planted one in my back yard but it is July now. Will the tree still survive?

I have been looking everywhere to figure out how to get them to grow thick (as in branch density not short and wide) like what kinda fertilizer or should I use no fertilizer etc.

You need to prune them for quite a long time to build density and a thicker trunk. Don’t let them get more than 8 feet tall for like the first 5 years. Once they have the shape and density you want, let them go. Make sure the top always has just 1 leader
