“last howlie off the boat syndrome” LOL I get it. Some people just have an entitlement complex. It happens everywhere but most ironic in paradise!

This is also called the "I'm on board, bring up the gang-plank" syndrome. Happens anywhere rich people move.

I don't believe it's a function of one's wealth. California in the 80s had a bumpersticker "Thanks for visiting California, now go back home" and it wasn't pasted on exclusively expensive cars.

@@livehawaii I believe the problem is greater where there are expensive homes and wealthier people, maybe because they have more free time to obsess about their newly adopted neighborhoods (They way I saw it when I fell in love with it should not change!). Or, maybe, because they see themselves as smarter than the locals. I know this, I am as "howlee" as they come and when I finally buy on the Big Island I promise to NOT tell the locals what to do ... at least for a few minutes after I arrive!

lol yeah wait for maybe a few days, if you could hold off that long. Thanks John for a funny comment. If you haven't yet, get on the newsletter and join us every other Friday to talk about Hawaii and you can ask Dylan direct questions yourself.

Oh I believe it. Ha!! Its a bad human trait. It’s like some people who quit a habit like smoking they then become the most vocal “anti smoking” person.

With respect, making more housing is perhaps not the only solution to the cost of housing in Hawai'i. As long as a house is considered an investment that returns a profit then price of housing will increase. I do not want to burden anyone who is not genuinely interested in pursuing this social policy, but there are are numerous models available. To be accurate, it actually is the history of private ownership of land that translates into a continuing increase in the cost of real estate. I do not expect someone whose livelihood is dependent on a clear and marketable title as the greatest good in an economy to pursue the research aggressively, but the information is available.

Where in the US do you have a successful example of your model that we can look at?

As a Hawaii citizen 90s kid I feel a bit uncomfortable in Texas now that there's a significant lack of Asians, Pure Hawaiians, and Polynesians. I know there's a fair amount of white & black folks in paradise now but it's still overall much more diverse.
Texas the big 3 I've seen so far is white, black and mexican. Only seen 1 fellow Asian and 1 Hawaiian but both under very specific places. Now I know how the haolie situation feels on the opposite end. It's miserable.

The people of Texas are pretty cool though right? Or do you feel bad vibes due to skin color?

@@livehawaii Texas people are genuinely some of the nicest people I have ever met. I adore Hawaii but I must be fair.
I was scammed by Fillipino movers from Hawaii and once some Texans found out they immediately wanted to help me.
The discomfort is more significant lack of Asians and Hawaiian/Polynesian people. I expected lack of the H&P but didn’t realize how in Hawaii it’s not a rare sight for Asians too.
I’m half Japanese and have gotten funny looks for it.

May I ask where you moved to in Texas? There are HUGE Asian communities in all of the major cities. I’ve been in Texas since ‘96 and I’ve never seen a lack of Asian people in these major cities.
