Great video and informative content as always! Really interesting to see both some of the big players of German watchmaking and of course the independence like Moritz Grossmann, which for me is the most interesting, amazingly done! :)
Marc, once again you nailed it..., what a great review of the smaller saxonian watch players..., i had the chance to visit Lang & Heyne and fell in love with their work...
Thanks a lot Marc Andre & team for bringing this video on German watchmaking. I hope to see Dutch, French, British & Japanese watchmaking videos in the future.
Another great interesting video, they always pass by so quickly. Have always felt there is a lot of great watch brands coming out of Germany that somehow slightly go unnoticed. Love this channel
Another great presentation Mads, good to see WEMPE training people .The last time I spoke to the watch maker I use here in Sydney , he had been to a local watch and clock makers function , he told me he was one of the youngest there and he is near retirement age....I think that your chanell helps to promote the craft and appreciation and well as the business side . Hopefully also inspire some future craftsmen...
10 years ago I was the first time in Glashütte and it really has blown my mind. This year I visited it again an was even more impressed. Its incredible how this little town has developed since the reunification. I also visited many of the watch factorys. My favorites were Moritz Grossmann and the Museum. Since many years I really like the watches from that town, owned a Nomos, Mühle, and an A. Lange & Söhne pocket watch, wich I completely restored, but sadly it was stolen :-(. This year I made a new Case for a very beautiful Lange pocket watch movement and today I repaired a Lange pocket watch from the 20s. It was in a very bad condition an I had to make a new Barrel and a new Malteserstellung, but its a joy to work on this type of watches even when they are in such a sad condition. Keep going strong Glashütte! Greetings from the austrian Horologenland.
I personally visited this area a couple of months ago to visit the watch museum even though i trend to book some factory tours, because it was just myself they would not let me in , however we took a look around the shops in the town and saw most of the watch brands made here.
Wonderful video as always ! I found the pictures in the plants especially interesting. It is pretty nutty the amount of finishing and corresponding expense such as polishing screws. Reminds me of the Lancia Appia's very beautiful and expensive to manufacture "jacks" in case of flat tires. I think you summarized it beautifully that watchmaking was "Essential Art".
Grosse Klasse, MAD. As usual. Now there’s the Black Forest left to discover as the second historical region of German watchmaking (all new museum at Junghans)...
Polishing the threads of small screws ! Now that & more the Swiss will need to see, listen n practise bcos they need to make not only for buyers but for watchmakers of the future to appreciate it even after many decades, that full detailing in manufacturing of a top quality watch is key to a higher horology level & standards..... Way to go for all that started it first 👍👍👍👍👍😉
Congratulations Marc ,really cool video, I personally was eager to know and see more about these brands on site. Do you think in the next watch trip could be possible to include Saxony as an alternative or complementary site to visit? just a wild thought.
I have often wondered how do watch makers keep their place clean. The process shown at 10:01 won't it create a very fine metallic dust? what happens to all the substance which comes out of grinding that metal against that machine. Or perhaps she is just polishing it. not shaping the metal.
There are various techniques, such as pressure difference that help or kind of static stands, but this remain an issue regardless, these are not white rooms like in the computer industry and glad it's not!
Why they only make manual winding watches ? In this entire video I only saw one automatic watch , is automatic watches are that complex ? , or they have any patent issues ?
Mr. M.A.D., have you ever seen these watchmakers drop a small part like a 1mm screw? I wonder if they have a procedure for hunting for a dropped watch part on the floor. Although they are skilled professionals, dropping tiny parts must happen! Do they excitedly say, *HEY, Do not walk here, I must find my screw!*
i always tell people to buy german or japanese when it comes to anything made of steel. Sinn, Damasko, Muhle, Braun, Nomos etc are the leaders of form and function. i get so many compliments on my Sinn U1-SDR its crazy. swiss watches are very overrated, overpriced.
Marc-André you are in my Hall-of-Fame in the Watch business! Thanks
Now that’s something super nice to read, feel honored by this kind comment, thanks so much! And all the very best to you
Nice to see German watch production. Keep up the good work.

What an interesting report! Now I want to go to Glashütte for a little vacation and buy something nice. ;-)
Sounds like a nice plan ;)
I love Germany but please read up on this place. It is full of neon Nazies . The nomos watch company is part of this .
Outstanding video. This gives me the idea to go there next Spring when we go to see our first grand child from our oldest daughter. Warum nicht?
Warum nicht, that would be a great thing to do!! Best to you
Beautiful watches. Great update. Thanks again.

TheWATCHES.tv Thank you very much! Nomos is definitely within reach. Lange, not yet. Hehe.
Wempe is the one along with A Lange
Not a fan of NOMOS
I like the German watch industry.

12:33 wow that's a good Movado watch. Movavo watches made and sold today are totally crap! 12:35 the Heuer is great as well.
Yes, true!
Top video !
Thanks a lot, makes us happy!
Wish the video never ended.
So jealous!
Watchtripping: Glashütte Edition? 😉
The seed has been planted... would for sure love to do this!!

😉🙏
7:06 this model is a beauty!!
Great!
Many thanks!
Marc, if ChronoSwiss was one of your subjects what about Sinn or Hanhart? Thanks, love the video.
Really like Sinn, but this was more like a general overview!! Thanks a lot
This video makes me want to spend money on watches :-)
Nice!!!! Enjoy it
8:48 what's that beauty.
it is just a matter of time American watches (mechanical) will re-dominate the world. There is a huge start up scene in Pennsylvania now.
You guys are too swiss not covering german watchmaking even when u did it was very short!
A good overview, but we definitely want to go more in details and we will!!! Best to you
Good idea! imagine u guys covering Seiko! unbelievable lol
Oh that’s so much on our menu, really really hope to make it happen 🙏
It's nice they are covering it at all. But you are right, the swiss tend to ignore the better watchmakers around the world.
that was not communism, that was socialism :D
Grettings from fan from Poland
Get your point ;)
i always tell people to buy german or japanese when it comes to anything made of steel. Sinn, Damasko, Muhle, Braun, Nomos etc are the leaders of form and function. i get so many compliments on my Sinn U1-SDR its crazy.
swiss watches are very overrated, overpriced.
Get your point (unfortunately...), but there are some fantastic german brands with great and reasonably priced products. Best to you
