I just want to thank you for all the time and hard work you put in those videos. It’s so simple, honest, genuine, so much research and personal insight involved. Since Valur Grettison left RVK Grapevine you’re the only Icelandic channel I watch regularly, because it really does the impression of being there. You’re doing an amazing job. I used to live in Iceland and I miss it everyday.
The Grapevine YT channel somehow faded out as for news coverage when Valur left, and I know that many miss him...And thank you for kind words about my channel, I appreciate that! And I have the feeling that I'm just starting :)
I love such small places, mostly for living. I grew up in a very small village in Latvia, it had only about 500 inhabitants but until the age of 3 I lived in the middle of a wood with only one neighbour half a kilometer away, the others were even further. This place has been my favourite through all the childhood and early youth. Now I live in a small town, and still the smallest places are my favourite for living. I'd love to visit Kopasker when I'll be back in Iceland!! Thank you for this video!!
@@JustIcelandic thx, we are back home (in the Netherlands) now after 5 fantastic weeks in Iceland. We have been very lucky to see the “campfire” volcano, last year the other too. And all the other great places. You are a good representative of your country, thank you for all the inspiration.
Gylfi, you are an amazing storyteller! You bring the village and its history alive. I noticed toys in some of the yards and what I think is a school, which is a good sign that there is hope for Kopasker to thrive. And, as always, your filming is amazing. Thank you.
Just beautiful. Thank you for making this video. I agree with your sentiment. It is so important to see the real places we travel to, not just shopping areas and tourist traps.
Thank you Gylfi! What a darling little village! I still have a hard time not seeing trees. Beautiful photography as always. If I ever get to Iceland I will know the best out of the way places to visit! Be well!
Thank you for taking the time to show us your lovely country. It is fascinating to think you're living on active geology. Even having watched many of your videos, I still can't pronounce most of the names! It would also be nice to see you in front of the camera a bit.
Tq for bringing back the memories Gylfi. Quaint place we passed by on our way to Raufarhofn recently. The thing that strikes me as we reached this area is the lack of trees despite the huge vast grassland. It’s raw beauty though.
I love this little town! And it's beautiful! And love that waterfall! I hope they can grow a little. But not too much! Thank you for sharing this amazing town with us!
Excellent recommendations! Very informative. And as a knitter, seeing anything to do with the local Icelandic wool industry is totally 😍! … hopefully there’s a way to buy some and ship it home? I know Lopi is the standard but even enough local wool for a scarf sounds lovely.
Beautiful village! On our next trip to Iceland, we will be sure to visit. We prefer out of the way places. The south coast has just gotten to busy! Thank you again
You can count me among the tourists who appreciate the WYSIWYG nature of places like Kópasker. I spent a little bit of time there a few years ago and found the utter lack of tourist infrastructure to be quite charming. That goes for the whole northeast, which seems to be perfectly content with the way things are. I hope it stays that way for those willing to leave the ring road and experience the “real Iceland.” :)
What a lovely little town. I admit I was drawn to watch this by the Puffin, best with Bearnaise Sauce in the thumbnail. I had a very good friend who loved Puffins so I bought her a nice print of a group of them when I was in Scotland. She would be horrified by the Bearnaise Sauce bit but I got a nice chuckle from it. Thanks for that!
Personally, if TripAdvisor deems a place as 'dull', that's precisely where I'd want to go. Less crowded and tainted by sheeple, and thus a richer and more genuine experience.
Watching this again today. It's just so beautiful and I think you do a wonderful job promoting tourism and the highlights (so many kinds) that your amazing country has to offer! Thank you for the enjoyment!
Thank you so much for such informative history on your beautiful Iceland. You were mentioned on Dutchsinse channel so I came over. Thank you from east coast of USA.
I have been subscribed for a while now and I enjoy learning about your country. On a minor note, geologists prefer the term plate tectonics, as the idea of continental drift had the continentals moving through the earth's crust as a boat move through water - which is not as accurate as plate tectonics.
I'm just getting to this video. I really like how you morph, at the beginning, from the Google Earth view to your drone view. What is that triangular building with the pyramid on top? Such intriguing architecture. (For instance, at 10:57).
So, are those red-yellow-blue infaltable bouncy thingies in every town in Iceland? Seen one in both of the last two videos you've posed! What are they for, kids, teen xtreme sports, drunk tomfoolery, nocturnal rumpy-pumpy, or the traditional annual "fling Gunnar into the bay" festival? ;-)
No it can't be found but it's in a place called Leirhafnarskörð and covered in a book called "Die Geschichte der isländischen Vulkane" by Þorvaldur Thooddsen but i didn't go deeper into that, but it was most likely Heinrich Erkes who did the 1911 paper on this

I really love your ability to share the Icelandic geography, history, and lifestyle. Much respect from the states
I appreciate that! and welcome...

We were here 3 weeks ago, alone at the campsite. A quiet place to stay. Nice people at the grocery store! Thanks for the video
Welcome :)

Thank you very much for this beautiful video and all informations. The place look very strange without trees.
Yes, you are right :) it's hard to keep them alive there :)

Gylfi, you are a one-man Icelandic Chamber of Commerce. Your videos and narrations are second to none.
Thank you.

Thank you for sharing your country with me. It's very interesting. I live in Newcastle South Africa
Thank you very much and greeting to South Africa :)
Beautiful and peaceful place...love it
Thanks
I just stopped by to see what you’ve been up to. Still making beautiful videos!😊
Thanks for the visit

Yes it's very hard to grow trees round there, even the Alaska trees we plant a lot :)
You have outdone yourself with this one Gylfi, the footage is outstanding. You are for sure a talented film maker. Many thanks.
Thank you so much 😊
Thank you so much for your videos…always look forward to your uploads
So nice of you 😍
They are obviously a very resilient community to have recovered so well.🐨🇭🇲
It sure is :)
much appreciated as ever
Welcome :)

Excellent Gylfi, so informative, thank you.
Glad it was useful for you 😍

You can check them here :)
Original Icelandic town, no sugar coated commercial spirits, just as pure as it can be. Far from the maddening crowd.. Love from Durban
Thanks a lot and always welcome :)
Hi Gylfi, great video 👍
Thanks :)
What a beautiful little village! Question - what is the round structure at 13:41? A sheep maze perhaps? 😁
I wondered that as well. It looks like a Viking shield!
The sheep are sorted there after the roundup :)
Beautiful village! On our next trip to Iceland, we will be sure to visit. We prefer out of the way places. The south coast has just gotten to busy! Thank you again
I agree so much :) and northeast Iceland and the Westfjords are the best "out of the way regions" :) welcome back
A beautiful area to visit! A nice shot of the sheep pens for rettir- I would definitely be looking to buy wool as a souvenir!
Welcome to Iceland :)
Awesomeness😍😍take care and thank you for sharing 🙏👍❤️
👍❤️ welcome

I crossed this Village, coming from Artic Henge returning to road 1. Everything is wonderful over there! Isolated road
Thanks a lot :)

I couldn't agree more :)
I would love to live there. Ever since I was a kid I have.
Welcome to Iceland :)
@@JustIcelandic Sooner than later I hope!
May the Gods smile!
Just the type of place I would like to visit, if I ever get a chance to visit beautiful Iceland. Thank you for sharing.
You should! and welcome to Iceland :)
Interesting! such a different world than I am used to
Thanks :)

Loved it here . Was visiting in 2007 with my Icelandic family. Thank you for the memories.
My pleasure and welcome :)

👍😎
Welcome as always :)
I have been there. Nice little town. They could build a swimming pool.
Yes I agree, I was surprised about that...
Thanks for this Gylfi. Really interesting and heartening ❤
Glad you enjoyed it!
A masterpiece 🌟
😊 welcome
Very raw but beautiful island.
Thanks a lot :)
Thank you 😊

I hope the tourist board appreciate all you do to.promote Iceland.
The should pay me for the one I just uploaded :)

Thank you, it's the school and the earthquake museum is there as well..
It looks so...peaceful in these small towns.
Unbelievable! This is a place where I would like to be.

Now I'm curious... is there a name for that eruption/explosion crater near town?
