Excellent insights from Johan (as usual). JB asks the right questions and lets Johan get on with the insights. For TdF stage analysis, this is the best show out there.
You want to hear serious conversation about the TDF first thing in the morning, JB2 it is!!! The MOVE is an hour long ad break with some content thrown in.
I love the MOVE, but the add reading is a bit too long. I know they have to get paid, but It could be a bit shorter and get the same exposure for the sponsors.
What a day, what a Tadej! UAE was clearly confident in the strength of the team today, otherwise they wouldn't expose their riders like that, who spent a lot of energy to control the race. This means that the team performance log data are very good. The tactic was to win the stage attacking in the last kilometer or 500m, but Tadej decided differently and changed the plan on the fly. It was an old school tactic that was always prepared in advance, this time was different, Tadej changed tactics spontaneously. Adam was surprised when Tadaj told him to attack, who me, wtf?! There are very few riders who would have the courage to change the set tactics and send a teammate to attack so far from the finish, Valverde comes to mind, but even him would not involve teammates in important personal tactic decisions. This means that Tadej has complete control over what he does in the race and not the sports director. Kopo dol Tadej, this was a amazing performance that shows a new dimension of Tadej today, MasterPog™ 💪 EDIT: now I listened to Andrej Hauptman, sports director of UEA, who told how the tactical preparations are going inside the team. In this case they predicted this scenario with Adam, so it was only up to Tadej to decide which scenario he would choose regarding on situation in last 10-5 kilometers. For now, directors still have something to say in decision-making 😂 Jonas arrived at the finish line exhausted, this is not the same exhaustion that Pogačar showed a couple of days ago, as he arrived at the finish line without the fuel. Jonas showed today where his limits are at this TDF, today will be even worse for Jonas and he has no teammates to help him. One more thing to consider is the temperature, Tadej felt great at yesterday's cool temperature, and today the condition will be similar. I really like Jonas, I could even love him one day, but if UAE will have legs today like tomorrow, then it is a great opportunity for K.O. The strong pace is essential to tire Jonas even more than he is already before the last climb. One thing is clear, Pog will not ride on the back wheel of Jonas for a long time, and he would like to finish the TDF with a K.O.! Remco is surprisingly strong, but he can not do more than this, he is waiting for TT. Third place in Nice will be a great result for the first time in TDF for him, but if we take in perspective that Tadej won his first and second TDF and he will race for next 10 years on top level, then Remco is in Geraint Thomas category. Ben Healy, what a rider, he needs a team built around him, and better management, because now he wastes a lot of energy with reckless racing. His riding style and position on the bike is changing, he looks very good also in the TT. I can see him as a grand tour winner one day, he is a complete rider. I wrote that Pog can't dominate the TDF like he did at the Giro, but the gaps are already very similar to those set to his rivals at the end of the Giro, if we exclude Jonas and Remco, of course. The tour started yesterday and will end today!
Thanks for your great analysis. At 21:00+-, you told something very very important. Maybe Pogy realized that he's not able to drop Vingengard alone. In HEAD TO HEAD Pogy will loose. But with Adam help him to get a breath, it's possible to win the TDF. Unfortunately Vingengard it's alone in this fight.
Pogacar has improved in high mtns. My error, I didn’t think he cd keep up w vingegaard much less beat him Kuss is missed! Absence has cost v approx 40-60 sec
A large part of the fast speeds is nutrition. Riders are today being trained to quickly switch between fat burning and sugar burning. Before it was all about carbs and more carbs and riders hormones could not quickly switch to ketones and free fatty acids. That plus equipment plus aero studies.
I hate to say this but i think Jonas will crack this week. The limited prep time will hit badly now, like for Pogi last year in the 3rd week. Jonas face looked hollow yesterday and you could just see the suffering in it. Pogi is on the form of his life and his face yesterday looked as if he was just out with the dog. I really hope i am wrong though. Greetings from Germany
Great insight and interaccion between both JBs.......as communicators i would appreciate you guys try to avoid the use of "I mean; you know" before almost every comment. Just for the beauty of language use. Thank for sharing your knowlwdge!😊
For all those saying the tour is over, there are 3 mountain stages left, all harder than today's, as well as a mountain TT - which if you remember last year, JV put 1:40 into Pog. The tour is far from over. Loving it.
Don't get me wrong I'm under no illusion the sports are completely clean, but what you forget to mention that has gotten much better is the tires and this helps everywhere not just on the flats.
The disc brake bikes of today are not faster than the rim brake bikes of say 2010. The pros dont want the heavy rim brake bikes. Tadeji was the last man forced onto the disc brake bikes. Sports medicine / doping and the incredible carb loading are the 2 changes.
I’m still waiting on “lack of preparation = lack of preparation.” Every ;ogic tells that in a race of attrition, less prepaparation = less base. Either, today is what Jonas can do, but he’ll dose those effort for the rest of mountain stage (being consistent), or eventually Giro fatique fnaly knocking Pogacar’s door = fading. So tomorrow will be a telling if Jonas can drop or not. Tomorrow will be hot (favor Jonas), and multiple longer mountain that suit Jonas. If he is, then VL will become the cycling most genius team for figureing out how to prepare a guy with a hole in his lung to beat the best rider in the world in 6 weeks.
Around 35 minutes in the guys discuss the evolution of bike racing and all aspects that contribute to higher performance in both amateur and professional events. The single and most important contribution to this, is that of riding to the numbers (power). I can see at amateur level the big influence of online traning platforms such as Zwift too. It’s all about the numbers. No guess work or relying on feel or perceived effort. The numbers don’t lie and now riders are training to achieve the power necessary for them to go faster. I feel this is the most significant contributor for the rapid increase in pace in both amateur and pro races. Also the use of gels to keep carbohydrate levels high, so less of a reliance on burning fat as a fuel source for they are constantly topping up glycogen stores.
Visma, Visma, Visma, is it a good idea to have the identical twin of Pogacars lead out man for Vingegaard??? Isn't there some kind of invisible bond and one can read the other? :) It is so fascinating like the golf identical twins Rasmus and Nicolai Højgaard. Really is on the next level when you have to beat at copy of yourself.
I am convinced that no one wants to talk about it and that significant progress has been made also in medicine and doping. Too many are closely tied to the honey pot, just like this podcast.
25:11 this is exactly what UAE planned for. He can’t attack because UAE is too strong overall in the mountains. Yates, solair, TP etc. best case for Visma is Jonas stays up front, but UAE is gonna attack him to death. But Jonas will still do good because he doesn’t take the bait and he is hard.
BS. Politt Sivakov Soler almeida are pulling many many km. Yates pulls for 500 meters. Most important meters for sure, but Pogacer performance was the most important at least 50 and the other 4 guys should get 30 and Yates 20

Aero might have improved from better clothing but as they are going uphill at low speeds aero doesn't matter so much and can in no way explain how it was possible to beat the record of uberdoped Lance in 2001. I am not a hater, but I am highly skeptical of the records which are set. Bruynell must think we are idiots since he tries to explain it by evolution and aerodynamics.
