Tadej stole my heart during the Giro when he took that bottle from a soigneur on the side of the road and handed to the kid running along side him. That was awesome. That kid will have that bottle forever.
My prediction from yesterday, Pog will atack two laps to the finish line and none will threaten the victory of the cake maker. Mathieu van der Poel second, Remco out of the podium and Roglič will help Pogačar for a win (I still don't know where Ben O'Connor came from, great season for him!) . The race was amazing, not boring, the tension was present till the end. It was not easy, it was close to disaster attacking 100k to finish (it was not confidence to decide the attack so early, it was fear, Lance). Slovenians panic a little after an important breakaway, but the team gives out all atoms of power, smashing Belgians and the Dutch as a cake . Tadej is challenging himself constantly, this is in his nature and this gives him the strength to be an absolute winner for the next 5 years to come, smashing all the current records. But he needs to be more patient, why 100k if 50k will be more than enough to win, without risk, why drain the batteries completely?! The brilliance of amazing talents is that they are never wrong, even when they are wrong they are right. So we should never question or criticize their decision. It is up to us to enjoy, wonder and simply love them. This world title was an amazing achievement, not just from Tadej, but from the whole Slovenian team. Cycling, especially road races of world championships like this one, with a lot of climbs, can be compared in many ways with traditional mountaineering, where there is also a big team of elite individuals and support staff with a lot of resources and long expedition preparation and route planning... All together must execute the plan perfectly to succeed, and even this is not enough, because the unpredictability of nature always adds to its own. Mountaineers conquer the summit in waves, and one by one they give up on reaching the summit from exhaustion while setting up base camps and protection systems to make the route easier for the next one to try reaching the summit. These are national expeditions that show how resilient the nation is, which has exceptional individuals that can achieve such difficult goals. These have always been the characteristics of great nations, including small Slovenia. Believe or not, there is no nation in the world that has so many Piolet d'Or (prestigious mountaineering and alpine climbing award) obtained in the radius of 10km. Komenda, where Pogačar was born, is in the center of Kranj (10km) - Kamnik (6km) - Ljubljana (10km) triangle area, where the Slovenians won 11 out of 14 Piolet d'Or awards. Chapeau to the exceptional individuals and to Slovenia, which has won Pink, Yellow, Red and Rainbow jerseys in 2024!
Pogacar's spontaneous attack 100km out shows that he just loves to race his bike. Forget tactics. He's like a little boy who just can't help himself. It's why we love him. A natural born racer.
his spontaneous attack was exactly "tactical" decision - he was isolated (only Rogla left) and the break was getting a gap that was starting to be out of hand... he saw the other favorites were not at the front and decided to test them.
Can we also consider this, Remco won 3 of 4 of the "world level" races this year. And he STILL got 5th at the world road race. This era of cycling, having so many mutants in the field, is awesome.
Stop this idolizing bs...you all sound like little groupies... And respect Vingegaard, who is a classy man and sportsman as well, who put a fight to Pogacar despite coming from the injury..

Lance and Johan. Thanks for the 2024 World Championship recap. I hope all is well with Cappy. Hurricane Helene's reach traveled farther than expected. Her residual winds and rain reached as far north as Ohio! Stay safe, be well guys! ❤
As Mvdp said it's fitting to have the best rider in the world wears the rainbow jersey. I agree with Lance, Pogi is a generational talent. Yes, we got talented rider in the peloton currently, but Pogacar is one of the kind.
With Pogačar we are getting must watch TV. He is so dominant and the manner he wins you just want to see how long the show can go on. For that reason Milano-San Remo, stage 1 of Giro and stage 11 of the Tour are most interesting occurences of the season - the actual times he got beaten. Remco got him also in that first TdF TT but Pogi got him back in Nice.
Sivakov did not help Tadej a bit. He came in front 2x but not really pushing... What helped Tadej was Tratnik dropping off the front group, bringing Tadej to the front and launching him on the climb. How did Tratnik know that Tadej is coming? A motorist informed the front group. Amazing.

"What we have just witnessed this Sunday, September 29, 2024, has entered the most memorable pages of cycling history. Tadej Pogacar was proclaimed world champion for the first time in his career after winning the World Championships road race in Zurich with an attack 100 kilometres from the finish line. Yes, you read that right. The Slovenian is not racing against his rivals, he is racing against history. Every time he gets on his bike, something is going to happen. And in Zurich, what has happened is that the UAE Team Emirates superstar has completed the best season by a cyclist of all time. And he still has Il Lombardia to race. Why is it the best season ever? With this victory, Pogacar joins a select club of 3 riders (counting him) who have managed to win in the same year, the Giro d'Italia, the Tour de France and the World Championships, along with Eddy Merckx and Stephen Roche. But there is one thing in which Pogacar stands out from the other two. For that, you have to go back a few months, specifically to April 21, 2024. On that day, Tadej Pogacar won Liège-Bastogne-Liège in a race where the UAE Team Emirates leader won with absurd ease. That day's victory is what differentiates the Slovenian's 2024 from those completed by Mercx and Roche, neither of whom were able to win any monument. In fact, only Annemiek Van Vleuten has matched it in all cycling. So yes, Tadej Pogacar's 2024 season is the best ever completed by a cyclist in the entire history of this precious sport. What will he do at the Il Lombardia? If he wins that race as well, he would enter a totally different dimension to what he has seen so far. And best of all, it's very possible." Article from Cyclinguptodate. com
For those of us sports/cycling fans in the US. Tandej Pogacar and Shohei Ohtani have given modern day highlights of Eddy Merckx and Babe Ruth. We are witnessing something very special with these two athletes. As always great show guys!
@@TempoKemp And Lance Armstrong tested positive zero times..... Thus what does it say ? It does say that the UCI and ASO are very good in hiding positive doping tests in order to not damage the sport... Doping is of all era's and has never left the sport.... Nobody cares to be honest..... and most people do not give a f*ck if what everybody does suspect is correct... With people like Gianetti and Matxin at charge at UAE, it is impossible for Tadej not to use any sort of "help".
It's not just that he's winning, it's that he's putting in giant margins and making it look easy. Obviously, there's no proof yet but I completely understand those who are skeptical.

I hope Spencer and Johann can talk about why the UCI is offering financial incentives for whistleblowers of mechanical doping (only one actually sanctioned case) Vs nothing for whistleblowers of doping...
Because the UCI does not want a repeat of what happened in the Ullrich/Armstrong/Pantani era.... Back then they were already hiding positive doping tests, and nothing has changed.... Oscar Onley also with Healy and Skujins. 21 years old, had a great season. Never ridden that far that hard. Couldn't stay with them on last laps but only one of his age group in top 30.
Each rider has the right to choose where and when he wants to race . In the race stages ( 1 week or 3 weeks) Jonas Vingegaard is one of the best riders in the world, but Tadej and Remco are more complete riders ,they can win stage races and also one day races ( classics and monuments) .I'd love to see Jonas Vingegaard race in the world championships, maybe next year in Kigali, there will be a lot of mountain!!
Great showing for Quinn Simmons, that facial hair made me double take and wasn't;t sure if it was him. Had to pause the streaming. Poggi is a new generation of talent. Lance was awesome too.
How is George and his family doing with the hurricane? Good commentary on the show but we missed missed George. Also, who won the Vuelta Ventum Bike trivia?
The difference in power is there in plain sight to see. Pogi very rarely gets out of the saddle even in the steepest of climbs. You'll rarely see him stand and do side to side bike movements during ascrnts like he's conserving energy by limiting and controlling unnecessary movements that could waste his energy. When he said that MVP looks good wearing the rainbow jersey and he said he wants to take it away from MVP, he wasn't dreamin. It was a promise.
Pogi The Maestro. He dances away up the hill, he gives a truly amazing performance over 50% of every race he starts, and then he takes a big bow at the end. The Maestro!
I had the privilege of being in Zurich for Worlds - and yes, it is a fantastic city! Saturday, the conditions for the Elite Women's Race were horrible - I was frozen just watching it outside on the big screen in the fan zone. I can't imagine racing in it, with all the spray coming up into your face. For Pogi, racing is fun and he just loves to ride his bike fast, so racing another race isn't really "work".
Great show, thanks guys. But for Pogacar's historic season, imo the story this year has been Ben O'Connor. Imagine him as undisputed leader of a team with strong riders supporting him at all times. Holy @#$%, where did he come from? Please have him as a guest on the show.
Micheal Jorden for sure ;-).., right now it's still Merckx all the way. Pogacar has a long career ahead, but it could soon enough be Podacar the way he's progressing. One thing about Pogacar is he's all about the love and fun of the sport. He has fun, loves bikes and equipment, and exudes respect for all his fellow riders, especially his teammates.
In the end , Remco got 3 out of 4. Pogi only focused on this one. About time he finally became world champion at 26. He wanted this jersey a long time already;)
@victorruizmartin6212: well, in some aspects it is: how many times was Pogacar World Champion? (Remco 5). How many Olympic golds has he? FACTS😜 also, you can’t really say these achievements don’t count. Of course, Pogacar is the daddy.overall.
@victorruizmartin6212. Also, Remco showed Tadej how it’s done 2y ago in Australia. Tadej didn’t forget, he was there. Admittedly, Remco ‘only’ did a 60km solo, but finished almost 2 min and half before the 2nd 💥😜
So the race and this video left me with two questions......1. When will the Mother Ship arrive to pick up Pogacar? 2. How long is it fashionable for a 50 something, grey haired, former pro and World Champion to wear a baseball cap backwards? What an impressive ride for Pogacar today and really all season. Got a feeling he will get another win yet this year. I think Remco was just too used up after the Tour and the Olympics. However, if both riders are at their best, Remco is still a distant second to Pogacar. But a great year for him as well. Also enjoyed Roglic's interview at the end as well when asked about Tadej.
I love when we make it clear that we cannot compare eras. Because we cannot compare eras. Keeping that in mind... This is what I will say though, and idc what anyone thinks; to me, the most entertaining/best era was Lance's era and Lance himself was the most dominant of that era.. Tadej is so special don't get me wrong. He is STARTING to dominate his era, and I wait with abated breath to see what he continues to do but has a ways to go before we talk about most dominant ever. And if we do that... we are comparing eras, so can we really do that? not really, right?
I think Johan 's right... and that's frightening. We all know that regular improvement is a logarythmic curve. Well, I'm afraid Pog is not done with its steep part yet... At least couple of years of improvement to come... 🥶🤯
What about warning on a commercial 😂... what is crazy is when Tadej said he can ride 320/320w for 5h he's Z2. And I believe that we all say yeah yeah... but what he did on the world championship it is possible we saw the proof😂
Great episode and comments as always ... the best cycling podcast out there with best comments, knowledge about and introspective in cycling. Doped/not doped, at least it is obvious still today listening to your podcasts, that you won everything you won, because you mastered the cycling as a sport (in all aspects). Said that I just want to add that when Lance was riding his 3rd TDF, that he later won, I didn`t buy it anymore.. it was to obvious already.... and I totally agree with Lance when during the 2024 TDF he said basically the same thing, that Pogačar greediness is unveiling him... and Lance nailed it. I do not buy this BS we are seeing this year anymore... it is a total farce. I mean Gianetti, Maxtin, San Milan.... and 1 rider that for 100 km can not be caught by a group of 50 riders... cmon... I know you can not say it so bluntly but it is how it is.
There is no discussion? Pog is unbelievable but until he wins 17 jerseys in Grand Tours (POG has 4), 3 world titles (POG has 1), 19 monuments (POG has 6), he isn't even in the Eddie conversation.
07:30 - what is left? Johan? Milan Sanremo, Paris Roubaix, Vuelta Espana.. completing the rest of the 7 WT-level 1 week stage races... still plenty for him to do.
Yeah... Pavel and Pog discussed during the ads on live tv. As Julian and Madouas were already gone (who cares about Gaudu) Voeckler was probably ok. 😉 Bardet still the man! So much respect for Romain! Wish he could get in the ring one more year.
i use to think eddy merckxs and bernard hinault where on there own, way far ahead of the rest, like indurain, anquetil, froome, coppi, contador and lance. Pogacar is now showing he will soon be no3 all time, he aint there yet but most likely he will be.

Can we please stop talking about Tadej as if he is super man? Yes he is insanely talented and trained and fit! The fact that his competitors reduced the gap to half in the last lap is just normal. Even Tadej gets tired riding 100km alone on this course. So all that talk about him not drinking or eating enough and having ‘honger kloppen’ is getting silly really fast!
Tadej Pogacar has won 24 races this year, an awesome achievement! He is head and shoulders above anyone in this era and the most dominant rider since Bernard Hinault. But Eddy Merckx won an average of 50 races a year for ten straight years...there is only one GOAT in cycling!
MvDP, Remco, Mas, O'Connor, Mollema, Hindley, Healy, Skujins et all chasing one rider for almost 100km with a 40s gap AND COULD NOT CATCH HIM !!!! 😮😮 I really felt the chasers didnt want to win, they settled for 2nd way too early, I didnt see any hunger, any urgency to close the gap and work together, close the gap and make a new race !! BORING !
if they could work together it should be possible to bring him back. They thing is - they were not working together, they were attacking one another, and then slowing down. This favored Pogacar who was riding a steady pace to keep his gap. This is cycling basics.
I know all the drama that surrounded Lance Armstrong but that boy won 7 Tours. He’s up there in the top riders discussion. I also think Greg LeMond could have been in that conversation. He could have beaten Hinault in the ‘85 Tour and he lost He won in ‘86 but lost the ‘87 and ‘88 seasons after being accidentally shot in a hunting accident. He then won in ‘89 and ‘90 which conceivably could have been his 6th consecutive win.
There's no doubt about who's the rider of 2024 even if the season isn't finished, still have some races of one day and there's a monument to win in October, Giro di Lombardia . Even if Tadej Pogacar stays with his 23 victories until the end of the season for me he's the rider of year! In 2nd comes Remco Evenepoel who also made an amazing season, but Tadej triple crown (3rd rider ever to achieve it) beats Remco's great debut on the Tour ,Olympic champion road race and ITT and world champion ITT !
@@Forested-pz9cp Teamcars where not even near the breakaway group that included Tratnik. And Tratnik himself already answered this question on live tv.... It was the motorcyclist who told Tratnik that Pogacar was coming.... But okay, who cares anyway. it is not that important.
Merckx had 525 wins over his 18 year career thats an average of over 29 per year. That’s going to be hard for Pog to beat. The average in the modern peleton is so much better than in Eddie Merckx’s day.
I never quite understand the tactics of a group of very strong riders in a chase that dont work together to bring back a rider that everyone admits is the strong favorite. If they dont try to get to him , then you have zero chance of winning if they do work together , even if you think there is a dominant sprinter in the bunch , at least you still have a chance to win if you are there at the end....
Until 1995 the Vuelta and Giro were both raced in the spring... Thus it was simply impossible to race all three Grand Tour's in one and the same season.... A combination of Giro and Tour was possible, and the third biggest prize to get in that same season was the World title..... That's where the name triple crown comes from... But do not worry the moment a rider will win all three Grand Tour's in one season, the UCI will come up with a new title like "Grand Slam winner" or something similar...
just because the format of the Vuelta is 3 week Tour doesn't mean it's the third most prestigious race on the calendar... the big 3 have and always will be Giro, Tour & Worlds.

I do personally not give a shit who wins... I am a fan of the sport and not of a team or specific rider...
Pogacar did have an absolutely mindblowing season, and I really enjoyed watching it...

thank god someone said it loud... Jonas is not on same page as Tadej!
i think what tadej learned is the aggressive style of racing today means you can counterintuitively attack shortly after the final selection has been made and disrupt everyones recovery
Great closing by Lance at the end. Love you guys
In terms of UCI points, the Pogi's 2024 is the best cycling season in the history of cycling.
I should be better hear some GOAT conversation here, instead of usual yapping

Down to 29s. And then starting to gain last 25km. I will never forget
Enjoyed the interview Lance and Johan

And best of all, it's very possible."

Just a note, Van Vkeuten also won the triple crown, so technically it's 4 riders, 3 men and 1 woman.
And women's cycling is no more relevant to the discussion than junior men's (less so, even).
I was tearing up to be fair
For those of us sports/cycling fans in the US. Tandej Pogacar and Shohei Ohtani have given modern day highlights of Eddy Merckx and Babe Ruth. We are witnessing something very special with these two athletes. As always great show guys!
At this point he's probably already the GOAT. Only Merckx had years like this.

Doping is of all era's and has never left the sport.... And no that's not only in cycling but in most sports..... More than 50% of the Olympic medalls won at the Olympics in Paris has been won by doped athletes....
Nobody cares to be honest..... and most people do not give a f*ck if what everybody does suspect is correct... With people like Gianetti and Matxin at charge at UAE, it is impossible for Tadej not to use any sort of "help".

Something to think about maybe... ?
If it is to good to be true, then .........
Why would the UCI try to destroy their own sport, whit sponsors running away etc etc etc.... If you would know French Lappartient (UCI president) you would know that he only cares about the money.....

I am going to vote Primoz Roglic for president of the United States.
Great showing for Quinn Simmons, that facial hair made me double take and wasn't;t sure if it was him. Had to pause the streaming. Poggi is a new generation of talent. Lance was awesome too.

Thank you for asking about Bike trivia, I had to rewind and make sure I didn't miss it.
Johan was an amazing bike handler, and incredible pedaling style

🤮😂
I had the privilege of being in Zurich for Worlds - and yes, it is a fantastic city! Saturday, the conditions for the Elite Women's Race were horrible - I was frozen just watching it outside on the big screen in the fan zone. I can't imagine racing in it, with all the spray coming up into your face. For Pogi, racing is fun and he just loves to ride his bike fast, so racing another race isn't really "work".
Must be some good juice at the altitude camps..
Great show, thanks guys. But for Pogacar's historic season, imo the story this year has been Ben O'Connor. Imagine him as undisputed leader of a team with strong riders supporting him at all times. Holy @#$%, where did he come from? Please have him as a guest on the show.
Is Lance on a boat? That window is angled and looks sealed.
Is Lance jealous??
Probably yes, as he knows these kids are racing heavier bikes juiced to their guils beating juiced Lance, Pantani times, and it's all "UCI-legal."

I love POG’s style! He’s a smiling cannibal.

Great episode and comments as always ... the best cycling podcast out there with best comments, knowledge about and introspective in cycling. I mean Gianetti, Maxtin, San Milan.... and 1 rider that for 100 km can not be caught by a group of 50 riders... cmon... I really felt the chasers didnt want to win, they settled for 2nd way too early, I didnt see any hunger, any urgency to close the gap and work together, close the gap and make a new race !! BORING !
I felt the same thing in Montreal. I feel like the breakaways could have caught in both races but they didn’t work together at all
if they could work together it should be possible to bring him back. They thing is - they were not working together, they were attacking one another, and then slowing down. This favored Pogacar who was riding a steady pace to keep his gap. This is cycling basics.
Congratulations to the Pog!
He then won in ‘89 and ‘90 which conceivably could have been his 6th consecutive win.
how different would this race have been if Wout wasn't out with an injury?
Today ...that was brutal
There's no doubt about who's the rider of 2024 even if the season isn't finished, still have some races of one day and there's a monument to win in October, Giro di Lombardia . Even if Tadej Pogacar stays with his 23 victories until the end of the season for me he's the rider of year! In 2nd comes Remco Evenepoel who also made an amazing season, but Tadej triple crown (3rd rider ever to achieve it) beats Remco's great debut on the Tour ,Olympic champion road race and ITT and world champion ITT !

Where on earth has this triple crown term come from 😂 surely 3 grand tours would be the triple crown. Daft
I don't get it 😂...I was really confused, lol.

@@robbiddlecombe8392 A classic case of a distinction without a difference. Juicing is a slang term that means using banned PED's. Lance left a permanent black mark on professional cycling, so much so, that any extraordinary performance like Tadej's is suspicious.
