Something that is never talked about in these types of comparisons is Garmin's database, which is really the company's greatest value, a truly sports-oriented watch is not just about sensors and specifications, anyone can do that, the most important thing is the treatment of the data, comparing your data with a database to give you the most specific and concrete information possible about your physical form and your state to compete, and that's something that only companies that have been in the sports watch business for many years can do. Garmin has been collecting millions of data from professionals and all types of athletes for many years to offer a huge database which to compare your physical metrics and this value is priceless. For this reason an athlete who takes his performance seriously would never buy an Applewatch (or any other non-sports watch brand) Greetings
36h of battery time for the AW Ultra 2 is the worst case estimation. My does last easy 2d, while running 21km every day with Polar H10 and Music/Podcast via Air Pods pro.
The price increase is indeed steep, especially when you consider that the sensors have not changed compared to the Fenix 7Pro. Only the smartphone functions with a microphone and a speaker have been added and the software has been rewritten, although the latter still has a few errors. In my opinion, if you want to save money, you have two options: either go for the previous model Epix 2 or Fenix 7 Pro while they are still available or wait a few months until the street prices make the Fenix 8 a little cheaper. The latter also has the advantage that the software will be a little more sophisticated by then.
The added cost for the fenix 8 would be made up for over the course of ownership if you would use it for scuba, though. The dive capability on the AWU is subscription based and the cost over time would eventually build up. Plus, the battery life and better fitness features on the garmin are a solid draw. Plus, there are easy enough workarounds for most use cases where people have their phone on them if they want cellular and most headphones connect to that too
Does Garmin still lack locked screen with a pass code when you take it off your hand? Because for that kind of price my Apple Watch Ultra 2 is protected in a case of theft or loss!
Well! Bluetooth on my Garmin Fenix 6 stopped working. Unable to play music anymore and that was the reason why I came from Forunner235. I’m very disappointed to see the Apple announcement (same Ultra 2) and the crazy high price of the Fenix 8. I feel the market don’t have what I’m looking for.
A $1,200 that needs your phone to make a call / check the weather with no ability to respond to text messages….no thanks. I’ll stick with AWU2 and charge it every couple of days. Garmin - this is way overpriced. I would consider if it could make calls or used satellites to view weather, etc….
They will discount in a few months. It should have gone price parity with the Ultra 2. It honestly would have cleaned up if it were more competitive. Personally I'm waiting until Ultra 3 in late '25 before making any decisions
@@dixieflatline1189Same. If AW ultra 3 can squeak out 12 more hours of battery life it will be in the usable stand alone range for 2 to 3 day hikes and camping trips without needing a charge. My triathlon days are over but the garmin extra athletic features are impressive. If my kids and I get into diving like I did in my 20s the garmin may be better though.
Dominated? What nonsense. These are two completely different watches. One is a sports watch, the other a smartwatch that can do a lot of things that the Garmin doesn't offer at all.
Don't buy garmin... horrible customer service. My 750.00 Fenix screen failed after only 3 years...best customer service would do is full price minus 20% for a premature failed device.
Like electric cars, smart watches suck, mechanical watches look much better, they will last a lifetime, no updates, charging, battery, limited lifespan or software issues.

Apple is ridiculous. Maximum operating time 2 days in 2024. 😂😂😂They live in the past. They don't understand users. Garmin is the future!

Can mechanical watches say your pulse, pace, and where you are in the forest?
