Greetings! You’ve taken some fantastic photos. I’ve managed to purchase the Nikon 16-85mm zoom lens that I’m just getting used to. The images it produces are amazing. I would like to get hold of a prime wide angle lens as it would make for a lighter combination than carrying around the D7000 plus the zoom lens. I was thinking of a prime around 10, 14 or 16mm. I think this would be better for astrophotography (I’m a complete novice in that field). Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Many thanks for all the work you are doing to encourage photographers be they beginners or keen enthusiasts!

@tonygarrett7214 Hi Tony! Thank you so much! The 16-85mm is a great zoom lens and does produce some really nice images. As far as the wide angle lenses go, the 10, 14, 16mm I am not too familiar with. The 14mm f/2.8 looks like a great lens for astrophotography though, you will just have to adjust the distortion on the edges in a photo editing program. The Rokinon 14mm version is a the cheapest option and is a beautiful piece of glass, but it is manual focus only. You can find it on the used market for below $200.00 USD. The lens that I have seen being used for astrophotography is the NIKKOR 14-24 MM F/2.8 G ED. Its optics are beautiful and crisp and will produce some mystical images from what I can tell. From doing some research it is a astrophotography's go to lens. The only issue is price. Because it is a f/2.8 lens it is not very cheap even on the used market. As for taking them myself, to be honest I don't have as much experience as I would like to. I don't have the proper lens for the situation. My widest prime is the 24mm f/2.8d. It would do alright, but to get the full effect the lenses I mentioned above would be the best for the job, the Nikon or Rokinon 14mm as well. Now I have seen astrophotography images taken with a 18-55mm kit lens and I am sure even the 16-85mm would work, but keep in mind that because it has a narrower aperture then f/2.8 it's not going to get the faint stars in the distance as well, so you will have to raise your ISO to compensate and use the widest aperture your lens is capable of. I wouldn't mind making a video on this. It will help me learn and hopefully help others I just have to practice and do more research to get the best results. I hope this info has helped. Thank you for your kind words Tony. It is much appreciated! Anything I can do to help anyone is what I strive to do especially when it comes to learning an artform that lets you tell a story through a lens. I hope all is well buddy.

hello Kris i have been wondering whether i should get the nikon D5600 or the D7000 which one is a better option?

@avyrye8353 Hi avy rye, sorry this late. I would say that both cameras are fantastic. There are a few differences however between both cameras. The D7000 has a 16mp sensor and the D5600 has a 24mp sensor. If you want more functionality I believe the D7000 will be your better option because then you can use a bunch of lenses, even ones that do not have a built in motor for focusing. However the D5600 would probably be better for video. The Nikon D7000 also takes 2 SD cards the D5600 only uses 1. The D7000 just has a little bit more. The Nikon D7000 can have a focusing problem but it can be adjusted using the fine tune autofocus tool in the camera menu. If you have any other questions please let me know. I hope this helps. Thank you for watching! I do have some videos that talk about the Nikon D7000 on my channel if you are interested. I hope all is well!
