    Classic Game Room reviews the ATARI FLASHBACK 7 plug 'n play game console from AtGames, another entry in the Atari Flashback series of stand-alone game systems that deliver loads of games and questionable build quality.
    The Atari Flashback 7 video review shows the Atari Flashback 7 in action with 101 games, excellent video output (it's really nice) and wireless controllers that aren't actually that bad.

    When Mark was talking about adapters, I remembered when I didn't have an adapter for my atari, and used a mess of breadties and tinfoil to hook it up to my television set.

    Atari 2600 was technically my second system back in the day after the NES. Had tons of fun playing it with my family and as of somewhat recently I got a Atari 7800 in 2009 after seeing your video reviews and haven't looked back.

      It's the NES-Version maybe, because the Flashback depends on a NES-on-a-Chip.

      Same with Space Invaders. Definitely not the 2600 version.

    • @videogameobsession

      It looks like the Atari 2600 Supercharger version to me, but that's just a guess.
      The Space Invaders on here looks like the Famicom version to me too.
      I'd rather have the 2600 version of that.

    • @RonnieBarzel
      @RonnieBarzel 7 лет назад +3

      Thank you for confirming that I'm not crazy! Both "Frogger" and "Space Invaders" look much more advanced than the ones I have on cartridge. (Sort of like the homebrew versions of VCS "Pac-Man" that have come out over the years that put Atari's original to shame.)

    • @thephantom496
      @thephantom496 7 лет назад +3

      Game Sack Frogger and Space Invaders are the arcade versions. All the other games on this thing are 2600 versions. It's in the manual.

    I know this video is extremely old but I just found my atari flashback 7 in my old boxes, the system itself seems to work fine but both of the batteries in the remotes corroded. The corrosion messed up the springs and now the remotes do not work. By any chance do you know if I can fix it or pair new remotes to the atari flashback?

    Woodgrain was the "go to" option for everything back then. If they could have figured out a way to decorate the woodgrain with more woodgrain they would have done it.

  • @goldenheartOh

    I got this for Christmas. I thought I'd get maybe 10minutes of fun out of it. I ended up playing 4hrs the 1st night. It's a lot of fun.
    -I really, really hate those gaudy, big, orange buttons that replace the silver toggle switches. I might've bought it for myself a while back if those didn't ruin the look & the nostalgia.
    *Joysticks work much better than Mark made it sound. They don't have to be pointed specifically at the Atari to work. It seems like if the front of the joystick is even a little visible to the console, it works fine.
    *Joysticks take a little getting used to, but are pretty good. (They seem to be looser than the original joysticks IIRC.)
    *Paddles are ridiculously easy to make if you have any soldering skills. It just takes a 1Mega-Ohm linear potentiometer and a button/switch. I'm glad they put Breakout and Circus Atari in there, even if they didn't include the paddles. At least they can be plugged in.
    *Frogger did seem to have insanely advanced graphics for the 2600 version.
    *While Frogger's graphics are boosted, there's a total lack of game music.

    I would have been content with RF controllers. I don't know what they were thinking with infrared. They're on version 7 of this system, and they still haven't figured it out. The infrared is a step backwards from just the wired controllers the older Atari Flashback systems came with.

    Ah the 2600 my first system as well tough it was a handy down and it was the Darth Vader model I loved it all the same. Funny though that they used non 2600 ports of Space Invaders and Frogger. If I get one it will be the handheld version that there releasing in November, because of the SD card slot. I could just put the entire 2600 library onto the card and take it on the go. As well as having the real versions of Frogger and Space Invader for the 2600.

    Man I remember buying my first game console on my own and it was an Atari 2600. I found it at a garage sale with 30 games. I was 13 and to me a game console with 30 games for only $35.00 seemed way better than getting a SNES witch was still new at the time. I kept that Atari 2600 for 3 years and then got the SNES by trading it at a local game store. It got me $30.00 off of the SNES and I only payed $65.00 for it and it came with Super Mario World and Super Mario All Stars with two controllers. The 2600 was great, but it was even better trading it for an SNES and saving money lol.

      all atgames atari consoles have the laggy paddles, i tested paddles on the flashback 6 and the flashback 8 and they're laggy, i thought my paddles were defective so i tested them on stella on my PC with a 2600-daptor and it didn't lag as much, so atgames's spotty emulation was the culprit

    With all the complaints you made, I'm surprised you didn't bring up that the connections are unfortunately hard wired in. Sadly, that means you can't switch it in and out with your DVD player. That's a big problem if your tv is in a position where you can't easily get to the back all the time. Yea. You can remedy this problem with some composite cable extension cords. But it's just another complication that shouldn't have come up in the first place.

    Out of all these flashbacks that came out, the Genesis one is the best hands down because it had a CARTRIDGE SLOT! The other flashbacks dropped the ball by not having the same feature. The future of retro gaming should be these flashback type consoles that are able to play individual games, not just built-in ones. Because obviously the older hardware won't last forever...

    • @kevinr417
      @kevinr417 7 лет назад +1

      justin rivera Both systems' controllers have problems. These wireless controllers require you to point them at the sensor on the console, and it is highly unlikely a person is going to maintain the proper angle 100% of the time, meaning that certain button presses may be ignored. And the inconsistency probably worsens the further you are from the console. So yeah, even a controller with a short cable would be better. At least then you could be sure that the game would respond to every button press without fail. That said, if they could have used RF or Bluetooth for the wireless connection, everything would have worked fine, but I guess IR is less expensive, so that's what people get. At least they were nice enough to leave the controller ports so I can play with a Sega Genesis controller if I want.
      As for the NES Classic, I don't know what Nintendo's deal is with the short cords. Authenticity maybe? Even if they made the controller cords longer though, you still have to hit the Reset button on the console to exit a game and create a restore point. Maybe they thought people would want to keep the console nearby for that reason, so why make the cords long? The problem is apparently being addressed though. nyko.com/products/miniboss-for-nes-classic-edition

    I know the portable version of this has a SD card adapter. With the entire Atari library being like 5 megabytes that's a lot of power.
    I know there are people who have modded the Sega Genesis clone by the same company to have an SD card reader like the portable version. Since they all seem to have similarities in the way they are made maybe the same could be done with this little thing? I'm just saying that would be pretty awesome.
    Also I thought the Tempest port to the Atari was never anything more than a prototype. Maybe I'm remembering that wrong

    Personally when it comes to playing Atari on a modern TV, just prefer to use my AV modded Vader. But I can see the appeal with this thing

    I think it's real faux wood grain, kinda like authentic faux diamonds.

    Why would anyone want to play Frog Pond when they can play Frogs & Flies instead!

    Wood grain was a seventies thing, along with orange shag carpet and bell-bottoms. We're all better off without wood grain.

    Space Invaders and Frogger do not look like the 2600 versions. Does it play 5200/7800 games?

      I was wondering the same thing, although they don't like like the 5200/7800 versions either; the closest Frogger I could find is the arcade version.

      Nope, Supercharger version look s like this: www.mobygames.com/images/shots/l/167302-frogger-atari-2600-screenshot-game-in-progress-starpath-supercharger.png Whatever version it is, it's definitely not from *any* Atari system -- all very curious.
