When I was a child used to visit my neighborhood friend , and he had one of these Atari . When he gave me to try and play it felt as if I am touching heaven with my hands . It felt like this is what I wanted to do for the rest of my life :))
A couple Christmases ago I asked my grandmother to get me an Atari Flashback for Christmas. I had and still have an obsession with Retro games. But that was before I discovered the magical world of... Emulators (would prefer to play on actual hardware)
Thanks for including the shots of all the games available, happy to see a few I recognize. Before Atari, we had a Gemini system, I think that's what it was called, with games like Mouse Trap, and I think Donkey Kong was used with that system too, or maybe they were interchangable with the Atari console?? Foggy memory, good times! ;)
Is it just me, or is Mark immortal? It seems that way given how he looks the same back in 2010 as he does now. So it's obvious that he's a Highlander and he's using CGR as a means to hide the truth.
Some people age better than others, and this due to how you keep yourself from any sort of aliments that can cause your body to age in a way that makes you look 10 years older than your actual age. Mark here looks great because he probably keeps himself healthy and fit, which causes some great results in the long run!
I remember the first Atari Flashback including some 7800 games. Would love to see AtGames (or whomever) deliver a 5200 and/or a 7800 Flashback, instead of just updating their 2600 units every year or so.
@@marccaselle8108 Midnight Mutants maybe a bit hard to re-release as it used Al Lewis's likeness so depending on the deal they had, they may have to get permission from his estate
I still have my Atari 2600 from 1981 and I would like to get this, been using emulators for a long time and a real console here and there but they are just a pain in the ass in so many ways. This looks easy to set up and has the proper controllers! I have never gotten used to using a gamepad for the old classic games.
Oh man... this console has better Atari 2600 games than the Atari Flashback collections for Xbox One and PS4! Not sure about the PC alternative, as I haven't played that yet.
For the Atari Flashback 9, AT@Games really needs to include an Atari 2600 cartridge slot. That way you can play any games that might be missing on their list of preinstalled titles. Come on. How hard could it be to develop an Atari 2600 on a chip like they have for their SEGA Genesis Flashback console?
It looks better than previous flashbacks, and Im glad it has some Activision games. But I still wish it had a cartridge or a SD card slot for roms like the Flashback Portable did. And how about some 7800 games too??
That Atari Flashback 9 has an SD card that allows you to download and play almost any 2600 game. There is a way to add games to the Fashback X, but you need a OTG adapter cable.
Great review. Was wondering about the HDMI. The Sharp 32" 1080p TV I use as my computer monitor plays all my old systems just fine on Channel 3 & 4 (tried Atari Pinball console, Atari Home Computers, Odyssey 2, Intellvision to name a few - all work and look fine). Ordered the book btw...
I thought my paddle controllers were toast. But after looking up a tutorial on cleaning them and following the directions, they're good as new. Now I just gotta get me some games. All I have is Warlords, which is a snooze with only one player.
Finally a Review Mark seems to care about! XD I haven't seen this kind of content *since early 2016,* and I'm glad we get the return of old Mark again! lol! .......btw ATARI Flashback triumphs over SEGA Flashback by far! :)
*+UberKrassMann* XD well in this case, I am being serious! I love it when Mark actually puts the care into his reviews unlike the *previous episodes* where he was just "trolling" LOL!
*+Cookie V.3* Even if that's the case, I heard that the Emulation is jacked up as well! Like the Console skips frames and stutter around certain games that are being played....I also heard cartridges plays better on it however! Still the Atari triumphs because of the sheer packaging and design of the device! XD
ZeldaTheoristb211 Yeah, I believe that'll be fixed as well, they didn't specifically say sound. Besides the weird bonus games nobody likes because let's be honest with ourselves, it's not bad.
Yeah since there are soo many atari 2600 systems produced with real wood on the front, you can assume that each atari 2600 has it's own wooden texture on it. Now the world is running out of trees so now we have to use plastic instead for those flashback versions of it.
I love Atari 2600 but isn't it time to start stretching out a bit with these plug and plays? What about Atari 8-bit, 5200, 7800, Lynx and Jaguar? Or why not have a plug and play dedicated to Atari's arcade titles? The 5200 especially had some beautiful games that were practically unplayable thanks to the horrible controls. Would love a 5200 plug and play with good controls.
The 5200 unfortunately would see the same death as it did back then. For one there isn't all that big of a catalog on the system neither for any the other systems besides the 8bit home computer range. As for the 5200 and controls the sad part is the controllers would have to be analog again -80's analog not modern analog (they're different concepts). Reason being is the games were written for analog controls meaning potentiometer like values used for the IO read and write. 5200 is best left alone
MOS6507-1.19MHz I didn't know the technical parameters -- just that the 5200 had awful controls. I guess there will never be an improvement on that -- what a waste. Having said that, the 8-bit computer versions were pretty much the same as the 5200 graphically, so there is still possibility there.
7800. And i think it was before the one you could solder a slot onto. IIRC the emulation was a bit flaky as it used a nintendo (yes nintendo) on a chip design.
It's silly to include a huge poster, but then to use the picture of the Fisher Price looking unit instead of the awesome "Heavy Sixer" Atari 2600! Nintendo included a poster of, not only the original NES, but also R.O.B. and the Zapper, 2 NES accessories not included or even compatible.. but it's still awesome looking and worthy of hanging on your wall.
Tempest for the 2600 (unreleased) is an interesting case study in a game trying to do something that is really not possible. I'll say this, it's recognizably a Tempest adaptation. If you squint really hard.
Dam. I'm turning 50 this November. I didn't get one for my 14th birthday. I'm gonna use my Mom's Amazon prime account and get me one..No I don't still live with my Mom.
vtnwesley I suggest getting the atari flashback 2 or 2 plus. It has less games, but it also has wired controllers and I found one on ebay for 8 bucks in good shape.
The sound is only really a problem with the sega flash backs. It's pretty difficult to mess up the sound with these kinds of games. This one is still compatible with the wired controllers, but the infrared controllers are what is bundled. Either way, they're meant to look like the 2600 joy sticks, so they're not great either way. I recommend getting a 9-pin plug controller from 8-bitdo or retrobit.
There's Atari 8 gold deluxe which comes with paddles and Atari flashback 8 gold Activision edition which adds a bunch of Activision games but is missing 10 games
tbb033 spider fighter is on the special Flashback 8 Gold Activision version. Which has 130 games and 39 of which are Activision and Imagic as Activision owns the Imagic catalogue
At this point they should really have more games but I think my dad would get a kick out of this for Christmas. I love me some 2600 but I'll wait for the Retron77
Does anyone know how the wireless controllers are? I thought Mark said that the Flashback 7 had terrible wireless controllers that had to be pointed at the console.
I guess that's true, why would I buy it when I have the console already, really needs more unique titles like Yar's Return to pull me away from buying cartridges. I'd like more homebrew titles inside it, some of them get such limited runs that the Flashback would be a good alternative. Sort of a paradox really, if you never played one before would you buy this?
Why doesn't it store high-scores ? Well... it does when you are playing, but if you go to another game or turn off the console -- all gone ! is that by design?
When I was a child used to visit my neighborhood friend , and he had one of these Atari . When he gave me to try and play it felt as if I am touching heaven with my hands . It felt like this is what I wanted to do for the rest of my life :))
Well I got Atari 2600 Flashback 8 with wired controller at Target for my Christmas Present when I was a 17 year old teen since Christmas 2017
Back in my day, there were Atari orchards as far the eye can see.
A couple Christmases ago I asked my grandmother to get me an Atari Flashback for Christmas. I had and still have an obsession with Retro games. But that was before I discovered the magical world of... Emulators (would prefer to play on actual hardware)
Aquaventure rules!!
I’ve often wondered why Atari never released it?
I can only imagine how cool the TV commercial would’ve been!
They should make a Flashback that has the Atari arcade games, like the arcade version of Asteroids.
Thanks for including the shots of all the games available, happy to see a few I recognize. Before Atari, we had a Gemini system, I think that's what it was called, with games like Mouse Trap, and I think Donkey Kong was used with that system too, or maybe they were interchangable with the Atari console?? got my first 2600 at jcpenney in 1981
Paperclown your dad was a very wise man.

ZeldaTheoristb211 You're right, and it's not just his looks that have stayed the same, it's also the excellency of his videos.
Well his editing skills have always been on point!
Y'know what they say? *Once you edit good, you never forget!* XD
So it appears Araki (Creator of Jojo's Bizarre Adventure) has been showing his secret techniques to others.
It's the high exposure to all the blast processing.
I remember the first Atari Flashback including some 7800 games. Would love to see AtGames (or whomever) deliver a 5200 and/or a 7800 Flashback, instead of just updating their 2600 units every year or so.
I would like to see a 7800 flashback with all the games including midnight mutants, fatal run, mean 18 golf, and ninja Golf

@@The_Real_DCT figures.
Mark, I will be getting an Atari Flashback 2 today. I haven't played an Atari game in like 14-15 years. Hello Retro gaming!!
Just got one as a Christmas from my wife love it brings back memories when I had the original 2600 Atari gaming console
Gotta get me one of those sweaters
I love break out I first played it in a laundromat eating stale nuts out of a Lance machine and a broken paddle
I still have my Atari 2600 from 1981 and I would like to get this, been using emulators for a long time and a real console here and there but they are just a pain in the ass in so many ways. fucking finally they got the pitfall license

Maybe the flashback 9 will include 7800 and 5200 games and resemble a 2600 darth vader, 2600 jr, 5200, or 7800.

Ordered the book btw...
Did anyone notice the flash back box has the new AtariBox logo?.
I sat through an ad for you bro!
My Atari Flashback's are piling up! I have all of them since Flashback 1! I wonder how many more Flashback's there will be??
I thought my paddle controllers were toast. But after looking up a tutorial on cleaning them and following the directions, they're good as new. Now I just gotta get me some games. All I have is Warlords, which is a snooze with only one player.
I want Atari computer stuff. The Atari 800 and the XL and XE machines were legit.
Finally a Review Mark seems to care about! XD
I haven't seen this kind of content *since early 2016,* and I'm glad we get the return of old Mark again! lol!

Apparently the review units were faulty so the sound can still be fixed.

I love how you blast (the amazing) Sean Zoltek! trololol lol
Activision game are the ones I like the most on the Atari 2600. Hero and Mega Mania are probably my favorites.
I kinda want one of these but I'll wait a few months when it'll be half off at Bed, Bath & Beyond.
Yeah since there are soo many atari 2600 systems produced with real wood on the front, you can assume that each atari 2600 has it's own wooden texture on it.
Now the world is running out of trees so now we have to use plastic instead for those flashback versions of it.
The original 1980s paddles work on the flashback 8 gold or are you using at games paddles
I love Atari 2600 but isn't it time to start stretching out a bit with these plug and plays? What about Atari 8-bit, 5200, 7800, Lynx and Jaguar? Crystal Castles 2600 - know how much you loved that one! ;)
Please do atari flashback portable system 2017 version that has Namco games on it
Aw christmas and Fall is here soon thank goodness this year is gona go out with a bang man!!
Huh? I never knew there was a sequel to Yar's Revenge! I don't see it in my MAME ROM collection. :(
Yes the original was successful for Activision so they had one in the pipeline and it was done, then the 1st video game crash happen = Never released.
i still have Atari flashback 8 gold its great
Can't wait until they release one for the 5200
Atgames needs to make and bundle an Atari trackball for Missile Command and Centipede.
PLEASE ATGAMES, MAKE THAT HAPPEN!
Dam. I'm turning 50 this November. I didn't get one for my 14th birthday. I'm gonna use my Mom's Amazon prime account and get me one..No I don't still live with my Mom.
I recently cleaned my 2600 paddle controllers. It's not that hard to do.
Does the Atari Flashback 8 Gold Activision Edition have every game that is on this version?
Scott Manns no, off the top of my head it's missing Frogger, Front Line and Jungle Hunt.
Only 720p? I demand full HD Atari 2600.
Jeremy Gregorio 2600p
I noticed the sound is off in Pitfall, looks like AtGames didn't care on sound emulation
I tend to shy away from anything by AtGames due to awful audio and uncomfortable controllers. How does this one fair?
vtnwesley but uncomfortable controllers are part of the Atari experience you're paying for the realism
vtnwesley I suggest getting the atari flashback 2 or 2 plus. It has less games, but it also has wired controllers and I found one on ebay for 8 bucks in good shape.

It works with a genesis controller!
Any idea if it comes with the Swordquest comic books? I know they can be downloaded, but included physical copies would be nice.
Oh man I wish it was Xmas time like his sweater it's way too hot
My favorite Atari games are Space Invaders and Breakout. :)
I want a Tiger electronics flashback Gold!
time for an atari 7800/5200 flashback.
Needs more Spider FIghter instead of that Mattel junk. I already have Intellivision Flashback, so screw that noise.
tbb033 spider fighter is on the special Flashback 8 Gold Activision version. Which has 130 games and 39 of which are Activision and Imagic as Activision owns the Imagic catalogue
Can you do a video on the atari 2600 hd by telling every game on them so we know which one to buy. No one has done it yet.
What would be the best retro game console be then then?
Atari Flashback Ate Gold
I'm an Atari fan too
At this point they should really have more games but I think my dad would get a kick out of this for Christmas. I love me some 2600 but I'll wait for the Retron77
Drink a Beer and Play a Game hi
Pitfall! That takes me back.
Is "Custer's revenge" on it, though?
The next model, the Atari Flashback 9 Gold HD have River Raid in it.
Dude, where did you get your hat from? Its as if Terry Boogard sponsored Atari. Joking aside, it looks pretty cool.
I purchased the Activision Edition.
Does anyone know how the wireless controllers are? I thought Mark said that the Flashback 7 had terrible wireless controllers that had to be pointed at the console.
RetroGameFreakHd they are okay, they are wireless as opposed to infared but they do eat batteries pretty fast
I suppose being able to easily play these games on modern TVs is a plus...
"Atari 8 gold makes a perfect gift for that Atari person in your life"
Me thinking: my mom
Do you know of where I can find some ENBs or 4K texture packs for those Attari games?
Awesome review! Thx
UUgh, sold out everywhere. It's 80 bucks.
whats comes next? ATARI FLASHBACK 8 Platin with Atari 2600 Games in 4K? XD
Dear Mark please do a unboxing of the new godzilla film the came to DVD and blu ray that came out on August first
Thought you were getting a phone call on your Nokia 3310 but that was just the select screen on the atari
I might buy this sometime.
Do the wireless controllers work on other things?
Shame there aren't Pitfall 2. besides that it seems good
Golden video Mark! :D
seems the UK version will have it, odd
Probably issues emulating the custom chipset that Pitfall 2 used as it had a special chip for music and I believe a custom memory mapper.
does anyone have the full list of the games anywhere?!
the should have a cartridge slot for original titles
Still waiting for an Intellivision so I can play B-17 Bomber with that awesome controller.
WigWagWorkshop They made one a few years ago. In either 2014 or 2015.
Wow, I didn't know Mark got an Ataribox early!
Guess this means you'll be reviewing the latest variant of the Sega Genesis one as well.
Hey did you play Atari 760XLS?
The Flashback 2 was actually made by Atari. All of the successors in the line are made under license by AtGames.
What about the flashback 1
See your Atari Flashback 7 review comments!
That's a bad ass sweater
Games look great
I love Aquaventure
H.E.R.O is expensive? I bought it for 5 bucks a few years ago.
Luke Beauchamp you got lucky then because whoever you got it from didn't know how much it's worth
atari nurtured my rage as a kid hehehe hero was the game.
Good job on getting 10K views!
How many games were made for the 2600?
Wheels8504 425
Why doesn't it store high-scores ? Well... it does when you are playing, but if you go to another game or turn off the console -- all gone ! is that by design?
