I like to imagine she makes weight and then just snacks hard before the fight, and her entire camp is like, "MACKENZIE NOT AGAIN!" "I'm sorry, I was watching Wild Wild Country and you can't just eat one chip."
They should just up the fine... 50% sounds about right. That way the promotion gets what it needs, a fight. The opponent gets better compensation for taking the fight, and the offender get a penalty that actually stings.
I propose 10% of your total purse per pound overweight. In this case, 70% of her show/win purse would have gone to Amanda. It's the only way to get the fighter to get as close to making weight as possible.
I think you're doing everything right with this channel. There's definitely a demand for longer videos (more than 3 or 4 minutes), and the entire video is on a specific topic. I read the title, and I get around 7 minutes on nothing but that topic. Keep it up.
A friend of mine went to England for about a month, one time, came back with a British accent, took it a minute to fade away. His Mother told him it was a sign of a weak mind, lol.
It's a hypothesis. By its nature there would be evidence lacking. However, she has missed weight in half her fights, got kicked out of her gym, has developed an "English second language" Portuguese accent (where she pretends to search for small English words), and she showed up in Brazil nearly 140 pounds, completely unphased by the responsibility she has to make weight for her last fight. These behaviors, circumstances and observations lead me to believe she will struggle with her weight no matter if it was at 115 or 125. To put this bullshit in perspective she showed up in Brazil needing to cut weight for a weight class two above her own!
Maybe part of it comes from her BJJ open weight culture. After all she fought and beat Gabi Garcia who outweighed her by almost a hundred pounds. By this time, though, she should be acclimated to MMA's requirements.
Matthew DeMello by being a smart person and recognizing other people’s patterns of ridiculous behavior. Your question betrays either youth, naïveté or dumbness.
There is a precedent for punishing weight misses more severely. In 2015, Jessica-Rose Clark had a decision win over Emiko Raika overturned to a No Contest due to weighing in at 131 pounds for a 125 fight. I think Dern should just be forced to move up. Like Lineker had to move up to 135 and Gastelum had to move up 185, yeah I totally agree with Chael saying her moving up to 125 should be enforced.
It’s smart. In first fights for any fighter, wins are key and weight advantages is everything. Later in the championship bouts, then focus on showing up on weight.
Entirely agree once again, Chael. I've been saying she's a 125er the entire time. I can understand letting her slide the first couple of times, but this last one was a deal breaker. She basically fought at the higher weight class. Just push her up already.
Look at her body. She could easily make 115. Just needs a good nutrition guy and some discipline. She guaranteed never to miss again to Aerial. It’s cheating.
todd brown Ok. She is not disciplined or doesn’t care or is a straight up cheater. Look at her body in the fight. I’m saying she can make the weight easily. She is small for 125 .
My solution is a 1 strike policy over a 5-7 year period(that could be discussed and if it happens again in that window you aren't allowed in that weight class, it still results in the same penalties for missing it, but add this.
Since the powers that be aren't going to get serious and disqualify fighters for missing weight, there needs to be a bigger disincentive to miss weight. Instead of giving up 20%, make them give up 50-75%, depending on how much they miss it by. That would get the attention of most of the missers.
She is a Marketable fighter, I hope she gets it together because I would like to see her fight a champion or a fighter that will highlight her undefeated record.
Just take her win bonus on top of the 30% purse cut. It doesn't make sense to cut one but leave the other on the table when she has such a big advantage
FYI, the accent is apparently from her speaking primarily Portuguese as her Dad and Stepmom are both Brazilian, and her boyfriend speaks Portuguese as well. Sounds legit...
+Chael A caveat you need to carefully consider with that 20% figure is that you're obviously giving yourself an advantage that may have helped you win fights you could have otherwise lost. If you're getting extra WINS from doing this, the winner's purse has to be a huge consideration. It should not be profitable to cheat, but if you're winning fights you would have lost, it theoretically could be even with the -20%.
Should just make it a rule that if you miss weight twice in a row and/or three times overall, then you have to move up. Include any cancellations due to dehydration or malnutrition as a missing weight strike.
Mackenzie Dern entered the strawweight rankings at 15. Fighters that come in over the weight limit are usually winners, and winners go up the rankings.
Mackenzie Dern actually weighed in at 123 pounds, that's 7 pounds over the 116 limit (being that this isn't a championship fight). And that's more than 6% body weight advantage over other strawweights, not 4.5%.
the most unfair thing about weight is the person that doesn't make weight , if they win, still move up in rankings. Those overweight wins should not affect the division.
As long as there is a win bonus, fighters will miss weight because their opponents will accept the fight knowing they get essentially 50% of their pay, if they're lucky, if they don't.
If you miss weight by 4 pounds or more (not counting your 1 pound allowance) it should be an automatic 30% fight purse to your opponent, 100% of bonuses earned to your opponent, and your next fight in the division up. 4 pounds means you were never intending to come in at the correct weight in the first place.
Her dad, Wellington "Megaton" Dias was born in Rio de Janeiro and although she was born in Arizona she spent her childhood travelling back and and forth between Brazil and the US. Her stepmother is brazilian as well and she learned both languages growing up. It´s kind of weird and baffling indeed the fact the she is "changing" her native american english accent but you know what´s even more baffling? The fact the she also speaks portuguese with a slight american accent.
Perhaps there should be a rule implemented where fighters who miss weight MUST fight for at least 2 fights in the higher weight class before they can come back down. You can still have your fight and sell tickets for thier next fights with no weight issue to deal with. Any fighter who really doesn't want to fight in a heavier class will find a way to make weight because the punishment is not simply financial, it's corporal as well ☺
You know what's really baffling? Not having a Sports Nutritionist at this level. Ariel Helwani asked her back in November if she was going to hire one and she said "No". Pretty stupid. Now that she's in SoCal she has easy access to some of the very best (Andy Galpin, Alan Aragon). She promised on The MMA Hour that she'd make weight next time. We'll see what happens.
Vorgaloth She cant afford one with all the penalties on her purse for missing weight those fights. Should hire one and say he can get 10-20% of the purse if she makes weight. Would still come out ahead.
The answer is super simple: 3 strikes. Strike 1: 20% of purse forfeited to opponent Strike 2: 20% of purse forfeited to opponent (2nd chance) Strike 3: 25% of purse forfeited AND 20% of NEXT fight's purse also forfeited to opponent. This will dis-incentivize cheaters who game the current fight to make more money in the next fight. They will lose money in their next fight as well. Multiple-time cheaters (say strike 4) will have stacking punitive measures, meaning up to 45% of their total earnings forfeited before the first punch is even thrown. I think this is the fairest solution.
I don't think it's a fake accent I noticed people who are bilingual and speak both languages on a daily basis they have a slight accent not all the time but I have seen it
MMA fighters, help me out here. Do certain fight companies weigh you again on fight night before going out to the cage; or after weigh in day, do you rehydrate, gain back weight, and give what you get?
Dear BAD GUY INC & Chael Sonnen, what your are saying about Mackenzie Dern you could very well be describing Boxing Champion Gervonta 'Tank' Davis loosing his Championship Belt to the scale. Please send this video to #FloydMoneyMayweather 🥋🥊 Failing weight is fast becoming a trademark of Davis, who is almost certain to end up as a welterweight for the future.
She should move up for sure. With the implementation of hydrations tests and if USADA could also weigh them to establish what they actually walk around at, perhaps it would help cut out alot of this nonsense. We all understand the game of weight cutting, but I feel it's still something we should be overwhelmingly against, just a unified front. Let numbers talk, buy less PPV's where most of the card has suspect weight cutters etc that might hospitalise themselves or come in way over the limit.
They are actually weighed as they go in to fight as well as the official and ceremonial weigh ins. Mackenzie weighed 139 in the fight, and her opponent weighed in at 135lbs. Both are supposedly 115lbers.
Is there an actual limit then? Like if they step on the scales right before going in and they are say - 20 pounds over, does the fight get scrapped? Not sure what your getting at here.
Mike Sloan I’m not getting at anything I’m just letting you know that they are actually weighed. As of right now nothing happens it’s just data collection, I think they’re wanting to introduce stricter weight classes which would be closer to more natural weights. Like - you can only recover so much of your body weight back after cutting.
Ah ok cheers. It would be super interesting to get hold of that data, especially for the smaller weight classes. Like how many 135'ers are pretty much coming in way closer to 155 hehe. Indeed, i've not been happy with the way they do this stuff since I started watching. Will be interesting to see what steps they take about it.
"her accent is kind of weird and baffling but that's good, I like being baffled" lol!
Couldn't agree with him more lol.
😂😂😂
Ronan Curtis hahahahahaha
Shed 10/10 for wmma , we're not comparing here to Instagram models she's a great fighter who's quite attractive
michael thomas well looks are entirely opinion so you have yours and I have mine
The man of the hour , too sweet to be sour , what you see is what you get , what you don't is better yet !!
Chael mentioned her fake accent. Yes! Lol
what is she? She speaks Portuguese though
She's from the US, her dad is from Brazil but she grew up here. Weird that she speaks as if English is her second language.
You literally said the same thing I did with more words.
MICHAEL MARTINEZ She's half Brazilian, she just wasn't born there.
Learn some reading comprehension skills, Bud.
Uncle Chael with that dip lip.
springfield03sniper 🤣🤣🤣🤣
wrestlers use dip to cut weight
Hell yeah.. big ole pinch of Copenhagen

Bee Rand wow..she must be the most trolled ufc fighter this year.
Mackenzie “Big country” Dern
Snackenzie Dern back at it.
I like to imagine she makes weight and then just snacks hard before the fight, and her entire camp is like, "MACKENZIE NOT AGAIN!" "I'm sorry, I was watching Wild Wild Country and you can't just eat one chip."
Justin Whitmore I was hoping Amanda would’ve given her a cookie at the ceremonial weigh-in.
Justin Whitmore lol
Snackenzie is so much better than the "Big Mac" nickname. Bravo!
CalQaida snakmac Dern
“She does that little Brazilian accent” 😂
Chael sonnen is an excellent analyser. One of the best if not best MMA channel on RUclips.
The accent thing has genuinely frightened me. I want her off my television, she's going to murder a boyfriend before 2021
hes blunt, but hes got a point!
she even types her twitter or instagram in broken english hahah. shes a loon.
TheTrolliosis gold! You can spot "them" a mile away
zx45zx lmao I didn't she took it that far. She's nuts
fabi_87 do you miss ontario
She's carrying too many accents, that's why she missed weight. or it could be she was just lazy....
Dika Sochirin 😆 I see what you did there.
Quality
real quality joke that was said last week all over twitter
Dika Sochirin
Very lazy stealing jokes off Twitter. That one has made the rounds.
Her instructions for weight cutting were in English, and she barely speaks it anymore.
Huge Chael P Sonnen fan. I would love the see him Get that championship that he promised his dad.
The Voice of Reason was a great read. Always liked Chael. Liked him even more after reading that book. He'll get his title
Im with ya. hes 2 wins away with the next being fedor if he can pull it off and I think Chael can beat fedor, but man its not going to be easy.
I agree, I hope chael or fedor wins the tournament, both good...
I hope so too man, but getting through Fedor and then probably Ryan Bader isn't going to be easy
Chael next heavyweight champ of bellator
They should just up the fine... 50% sounds about right. That way the promotion gets what it needs, a fight. The opponent gets better compensation for taking the fight, and the offender get a penalty that actually stings.

Spot on. Also no title shot if it's an elimination fight.
Or, the alternative, is even if you win, you dont win any money.
I propose 10% of your total purse per pound overweight. In this case, 70% of her show/win purse would have gone to Amanda. It's the only way to get the fighter to get as close to making weight as possible.
John Floyd she would just refuse to fight lol
Totally agree but I would make a fine that hefty only to the repeat offenders. First time stock with 2p percent. Everytime after your surrender half
Speaking of missing weight, anyone remember when Rumble Johnson fought at 170? A guy that size fighting at welterweight. Lol
He made the weight tho
gaseous clay against yoshida he weighed in at 176, and a middle weight fight vs vitor belfort he was 191
Finally! I love you, Chael
I think you're doing everything right with this channel. There's definitely a demand for longer videos (more than 3 or 4 minutes), and the entire video is on a specific topic. I read the title, and I get around 7 minutes on nothing but that topic. Keep it up.

Rofl that's great
If Dern moves to 125, I believe she still misses weight at some point. She's a head case like Hendricks.
Dustin Smith as evidenced by what?
It's a hypothesis. By its nature there would be evidence lacking. However, she has missed weight in half her fights, got kicked out of her gym, has developed an "English second language" Portuguese accent (where she pretends to search for small English words), and she showed up in Brazil nearly 140 pounds, completely unphased by the responsibility she has to make weight for her last fight.

McKenzie "Big Rig" Dern
7 pounds is just stupid, thats almost another weight class
that alone is ridiculous but missed weight 4 times as well....
why does she get away with blatant cheating?
EpicUnleashead You’re right, and technically it is another weight class.... Flyweight 116-125 lbs, she’s smack dab right in the middle lol
Adrian Royals Four bloody times!!!!
How in the hell does she not get fired or move up in weight class?
The unprofessional actions are inexcusable.
I LUH YOU CHAEL !
Looking forward to your show with Ariel.
uncle chael packing a dip during podcast fucking legend
I wish y’all recorded the past podcasts with Joel’s fights and arguments!!! 😂
Chael with the dip
Cha el is entertaining af,my fav one was the one he did not to long ago calling fighters dumb
Entirely agree once again, Chael. I've been saying she's a 125er the entire time. I can understand letting her slide the first couple of times, but this last one was a deal breaker. She basically fought at the higher weight class. Just push her up already.
Chael is right ON!
Powerful Chael Sonnen does it again
Chael's the best !
Damn, Chael was spot on on everything here
They need to feed MackDouble to Cyborg
TenSilver Cyborg probably weighs about 170lbs usually. It’s hard for her to even get to 145 lmao
Congratz for the new ESPN job with Ariel
Chael - if youre not cheating, youre not trying. I use that line all the time !
Lmfao Uncle Chael getting cheeky just talking about Mac Dern
I fuckin love chael, the comment about the accent cracked me up :D :D
Her father is Wellington "Megaton" Diaz. He's been a successful BJJ competitor for over 20 yrs.
Look at her body. She could easily make 115. Just needs a good nutrition guy and some discipline. She guaranteed never to miss again to Aerial. It’s cheating.
Man Sh!t she's missed weight 3 times in 7 fights
todd brown Ok. She is not disciplined or doesn’t care or is a straight up cheater. Look at her body in the fight. I’m saying she can make the weight easily. She is small for 125 .
Man Sh!t oh I'm not defending her I'm just saying she can't guarantee shit cause she's missed weight in almost half of her fights
She has a body of a Flyweight. Look at her compared to Rose.
Hahaha you see her butt twice than Cooper, her butt weight 10 lb
Nice shirt Chael!
The weight classes in some MMA promotions are limited is the reason why some people or a lot of people Miss weight for fights
I can listen to Chael all day, the Richard Attenborough of the mma world lol
lets go big Mac !
Mackenzie Doughnut
The Gangster's got a new gig at ESPN with Ariel Hawani soon. Congrats too him.
My solution is a 1 strike policy over a 5-7 year period(that could be discussed and if it happens again in that window you aren't allowed in that weight class, it still results in the same penalties for missing it, but add this.

Chael "I like being baffled" Sonnen
Leave it for Dominic Cruz to call out a woman.
She is a Marketable fighter, I hope she gets it together because I would like to see her fight a champion or a fighter that will highlight her undefeated record.
She is brazilian because her dad is, and she's been speaking brazilian since she was a kid.
She would get wrecked by Valentina at 125
I see Chael, I come to make meme. Real Estate Chael.
Just take her win bonus on top of the 30% purse cut. It doesn't make sense to cut one but leave the other on the table when she has such a big advantage

Love Chael’s Knowledge and honesty.. just curious... does Chael “dip” always looks like he has some in? Anyone know?
Should just make it a rule that if you miss weight twice in a row and/or three times overall, then you have to move up. Include any cancellations due to dehydration or malnutrition as a missing weight strike.
Ariel &The Bad Guy coming soon on ESPN +
Mackenzie Dern entered the strawweight rankings at 15. Fighters that come in over the weight limit are usually winners, and winners go up the rankings.
She's half Brazilian, her father is megaton Diaz bjj world champion
dern is the first fighter fighting on the Russian card based on her accent you know
Thanks for your honest point of view. Her accent and everything about her so far is annoying
Okay Chael has won me over, he called her accent out
Mackenzie Dern actually weighed in at 123 pounds, that's 7 pounds over the 116 limit (being that this isn't a championship fight). And that's more than 6% body weight advantage over other strawweights, not 4.5%.

i wish i could talk and barely move my mouth like Chael
She weighed in at 123lbs im pretty sure.
Yes she was 7 pounds over the limit considering the 1 lb tolerance they give when it's a non titled fight so she was 123
Prob was 130 by fight night
I would guess more. She was 139.5 when she arrived in Brazil on Tues. That's her normal weight. She was probably 135

Congrats on you and Ariel getting put on my espn
Chael looks like Olmec from Legends of the Hidden Temple
spit that shit out chael gd
She actually was 8lb over, weighing 123lb for a 115lb bout is equivalent to weighing in at 218lb for a 205lb bout
The answer is super simple: 3 strikes.
Strike 1: 20% of purse forfeited to opponent
Strike 2: 20% of purse forfeited to opponent (2nd chance)
Strike 3: 25% of purse forfeited AND 20% of NEXT fight's purse also forfeited to opponent.
Big Mac Dern 135 champ 💪💪💪
The next fighter she faces should be allowed to be 7 lbs overweight with no fine
Does Chael dip?
Give her a copy of the 'four pack revolution'
McDonalds have a new burger on their menu in Brazil, it's called the Big Mac Dern.
I don't think it's a fake accent I noticed people who are bilingual and speak both languages on a daily basis they have a slight accent not all the time but I have seen it
How letting a fighter dehyrate themselves to near death to fight multiple weight classes below EVER became legal is beyond me!
MMA fighters, help me out here. Do certain fight companies weigh you again on fight night before going out to the cage; or after weigh in day, do you rehydrate, gain back weight, and give what you get?
Ariel and Bad Guy 2018!!! 👊👊
They should implement a rule where if you miss weight twice you are banned from the weight class and are required to fight at a heavier weight.
Chael looks like he has dip in his lip
Timothy Moynihan he does! Lol
It's,BOTOX.
I bet if they DQ'd people who missed weight and paid the person who made weight show + win money that "problem"could cease to exist.
Chael looking like jaws from James bond.
123 actually
why isnt there a rule that states if u miss weight "x" amount of times or by "x" amount of accumulated pounds, then you have to move up?
