Ah yes, the city of bossier city. I was playing baseball for LSU Shreveport when 911 happened and the following days after we would be having practice then all of the sudden they would put what seemed like every b52 they had in the air at once. The skies would go dark with black exhaust.
I look at the crew and realize they are about the age of my grandchildren! They fly those old BUFFs with finesse and that landing was superb. God bless them!
The way the crews were running to the aircraft made me think they were standing “strategic alert”. Back in the SAC days they had 12 to 15 minutes to get off the ground upon alert from SAC headquarters..
My father was a member of SAC for years. 15 minutes and LaMay would be crawling out of one human orifice and into another! He really wanted no less than 10 minutes but on most bases, unless they were already sitting with crews in them, 12-15 became the norm.
I used to live about a mile away from Barksdale. On a good day you can hear and smell the B-52s running training missions. There always flying training missions.
Indeed...i was at Chicago Airshow..forgot the year..and we were lucky enough to camp out near airport where they were landing. It was so overcast you couldnt see most of performance flybys..and wind was gusting over 20mph in crosswind. The B52 were crabbing their landings pointing out at us arround 45 deg from runway and those huge airplanes were floating down dead on straight flightpaths but aimed off to side and looked like they were landing toward us. Remarkable skills landing any aircraft in crosswinds, but those huge ships were gracefull..pilots made it look easy, but it was no joke.
Served my time - USAF, at Minot AFB, North Dakota with Det 7, 37ARRS. The B-52G's from the 91st Bomber Wing . . . a main occupant and 5th Fighter, F-106 shared the flightline with KC-135 and our HH-1H Huey's ! Brrrrrr . . . it got cold, up there ! Used to run around the runway . . . watch them 'Buffs' do 'touch-in-goes' ! 🇺🇸 😎
Nice to see these ol' graceful gals still flying. Who ever (whom?) designed the main wingspar is a genius! And I hope these guys and gals get paid well, the inflight refuel and landing are enough to convince me they certainly should be, holy cow! Brass ones...
Intimidating im sure...those four engine jet cockpits are so full. Concord cockpits still in my measure are the most jam packed. Miss that airplane. Always an event when it was landing.
@@spamaccount1680 I hopr everything will go wrong, I don't want to see those TF33s go Differently from what happened with my ethernal love, TF39s of the C-5 Galaxy
I worked in AGE we maintain the MD3 NC2 and all NBC equipment for the B52 Bombers. And the. KC135 and refueling units. Nine and a half years on SAC. It was great. Fascinating and brilliant video. One thing I don’t understand however. Where the pilot is coming in to land he/she is turning the flight controls left and right pulling them back pushing them forward several times a minute and the aircraft is flying straight and level and otherwise not responding to what the pilot is doing. Someone once told me flight controls were quite sensitive and reactive. I would have thought the aircraft would have been all over the place by doing that. Can someone with flight experience explain why the pilot is being so, can I say aggressive, with the controls.
Actually yes they did. Heads rolled! It was some stupid paperwork foul-up and the base commander was removed. The weapons officer was reduced in rank and I believe there were several other that received disciplinary notices. I also believe the Sec of the Air Force was either fired or resigned eventually.
And the KC-135 has the wingtip aerial refueling pod....this make them capable of refueling the B-52 AND the fighter escorts in one mission. Probably not at same twice as the B52 but immediately after. Can’t Kick A@@ without Tanner Gas!
All I can say is cart cleaning sucks ass at least it's not on alert A/C crew chiefs gonna be busy tonight PS 60-0058 still a pos from its carswell days lol lol lol WHERE IS MY OLD BIRD 60-0007
I'm a trucker and when in Shreveport with some time to spare, I'd park on I-220 and watch the B-52's do touch and Go's. Love the sound of the engines.
My father is a city driver for FedEx, he was a SAC Bomber maintenance crewman in the 70s. The AFB in Northern Maine.
42 OMS Loring AFB Maine
@@maryparker3815 Thank you.
My Director of Operations was a crew chief there then

Back in the late 70’s it was a beautiful site when 8 B52G’s and 8 KC-135’s would all cartridge start at the same time.
U were not a crew chief were U lol lol lol
GOD Bless you Gents......
THANK you for all you do for us.....

I was in SAC from 1984 to 1990 and your right. We were able to do it in 12 minutes

Was stationed at Barksdale in the 50's, B-47 wings. The entire wing plus cargo aircraft would leave for 3 months at at a time for TDY overseas.
8:18 was an awesome view. Pilots coming in for a gander of the giant
The end is great when they land. Looks crazy.

1:10 He vanished by throwing the rope inside. That's genius xD
Great video, ending with a great astonishing landing.
8:22 I’d love to see the picture that Rafale backseater took
You'll find it on twitter as well as some from the French tanker . Search rafale b52 or the feed from armee de l'air or escadron Lafayette
Excellent video!!
Interesting approach. quick turn to final and land !
I was impressed how much work it is with the controls and throttles(8) during short final.
wonder what a full glass cockpit and new engine b52 would look like
If all goes well, in a year or two we'll begin to see the first B-52Js

I was stationed at Barksdale in the 2nd Bomb Wing as a lowly admin. guy in 1968-69. It was pretty cool.
B-52 Declassified. Good video, more vid like this pls
We used to see who could shoot them the farthest at carswell
The cockpit sequence is intense
I clicked only to watch the Rafale XD
Loved the "NUC CAUTN" button! That's a bit sobering but that is why they were built!
I live next to these giants it’s awesome to see em in action
Those cart starts look much cleaner then ours were. B-52g.
Spent MANY weeks on the KBAD alert pad in my SAC warrior KC-135 days!
Beautiful airplane. A workhorse.
in case you are searching for the rafale, its at 8:04

Looks like a timed event.
These are indeed the planes your grandfather, and father flew!
Those Stratofortress look so awesome, the look like they are fast in motion even sitting on tarmac..like the Blackbird...fast and sexy.
Love the way they remove the pitot head covers.....
I live near RAF Fairford, get to see all the heavy bombers when on deployment in Europe 👍👍
Beautiful.
VERY GOOD AIRPLANES, BRASIL OK.

Guess these crews weren’t born when the planes were built.
I've never seen a scramble, where they had to remove pitot protectors, etc.? Am I wrong?
They are not on alert but they still had 2 be removed gunner or ewo job I think
Muito interessante.
that landing!
Dang, that last minute landing was pretty scary, looks like he was about to land on two wheels. :)
I’ll get a lambo one day
Peace through strength...

Did they ever get to answer to why they flew live nuclear bombs without knowing it?
