Yep, and Conan was Myth. It's odd seeing highly rated computer games getting bad ratings on console even though they play at least as well as the originals.
That's Riggs for ya'! NES Conan is not nearly as good as Myth on the C64 though; lower frame rate and less responsive controls quickly turn a really good game into a really bad one.
@@robqg It's common because console and 8bit computer games aren't exactly in the same ballpark of style. Uridium doesn't feel out of place at all on the c64, however, when it came out, you had Guardian Legend, Zanac, Star Soldier, etc. and so it very much was like, 'what is this?' and it's very offputting. In other words, on the NES, there's a homogenous feel to a lot of the games, for better or worse. I'm always surprised to see the Camerica/Codemasters games get bad ratings too. Road Blasters is an awesome game. I've been playing it recently, and I love it because it combines my 2 favorite genre's. Racing and Shooting. There are also ports on Sega Genesis, Atari ST, Lynx and Commodore 64 as well.
Fun fact about Days of Thunder: It had a bug in it and it was impossible to finish first place. To get anywhere near the top you'd have to avoid pit stops. Seems it wasn't thoroughly play tested and the AI is not susceptible to damage and wear and tear as the player is. You can never finish 1st place. I can't believe this game was even released.

M.U.L.E. was a great game on the C64. Classic music too. I've never played the NES port. Roundball is how rugby players refer to Soccer and Baseball. With much scorn.
Gauntlet II would have been a good addition to the games with speech as well. One of my favorite NES speech lines is when you kill a dragon in the game it will say "I've never seen such bravery"
@JohnRiggs, there were actually two Nintendo licensed four player devices for the NES/FDS, and the other one that you did not mention was called the FourScore. However, the FDS (Famicom) had its own four player adapter system that was called the Famicom 4-Players Adapter. I also found out that, since you were mentioning that 720 was giving you fits with the NES Controller, Bandai (now Bandai Namco) made a little controller enhancement adapter that works for both NES and FDS systems that is called simply the Super Controller. I also found something else out, namely, that if you get a special controller that is made by a company that is called Konix, namely, a controller that is called Speedking, it might make a workable workaround for playing Elite on an NTSB-U NES system, as it is a controller that is specifically designed to slow down game play. Finally, you can find out more about NES/FDS accessories by going to nintendo.fandom.com/wiki/List_of_Nintendo_Entertainment_System_accessories .
I found Mad Max at a thrift store for a dollar about five or six years ago and got it becuase I remember being about 11 or 12 and my mom offered to buy me one of the $20 games at Target and I picked Metroid but right next to it was Mad Max. I had never heard of Mad Max before but a few years later found that movie in a $5 VHS bin and fell in love with the series. While the NES game is not as good as the highly underrated 2015 Mad Max game on PS4, Xbox One and PC I still have no regrets over picking Metroid.
Roadblasters & Paperboy were both ported to the Atari Lynx. Gauntlet II was not, but Gauntlet III was available for the system while IV was on the Genesis.
The Last Starfighter actually wasn't based on the video game in movie at all- it was a rerelease of a PC title called Uridium. Mindscape literally just slapped the license on the box of an entirely unrelated space shooter. Supposedly Conan was the same thing with a game called Myth- only it had a lot of issues being ported to the NES, which translated to bad controls.
Mad Max hasn't aged well but i liked it back in the day. It was the only Mindscape game I owned back in the day. And me and my brother used to troll our friends in it at the first arena by telling them they go to a bonus stage if they fall at the bottom left corner of the arena. Everyone fell for it. 😂
Heh, MULE was a great game for the computers it was on. Fun fact, there was a physical board game adaptation of MULE that came out a few years back. It definitely gives a decent rendition of the game.
Yay, thanks for this, I've been waiting for the Mindscape video on another note - in Alfred Chicken, are you a chicken killing mechanical mice in Cheese Land...? what kind of crazy stuff were they huffing when they came up with that lol
I played Road Blaster as a kid! I remember it being really hard, but then again I was between five and ten years old when I was an NES kid so it's probably not as difficult as I thought.
The only games I've ever played from mindscape are: Captain Planet and the Planeteers: I rented this game as a kid because I was a big fan of all saturday morning cartoons but I grew frustrated with it pretty quickly because of its massive spike in difficulty. The furthest I ever got was the captain planet level from the second mission in the forested area and I highly doubt I will ever pick it up and play it again. Paperboy: Just a timeless classic and it's a great pick up and play game that you really don't need to invest a lot of time in order to enjoy it properly. Paperboy 2: Pretty much the same thoughts as Paperboy. When I look at the entire minscape library, I think the only games i will probably go back to and play are probably paperboy 1 and paperboy 2 because the rest of the game library I really have no interest in trying but another stellar entry for your series.

Perhaps give Sega developers the same treatment when you run out of NES games (master system or Genesis...or both! More videos, yay). I know you've done a few for SNES too so looking forward to more of those.
I never realize that Mindscape published a bunch of Atari Games' stuff. Roadblasters was my jam in the arcade. As with a lot of Atari Games properties (Im trying real hard to not say Atari Games' games), the Lynx has a great port.
FWIW Conan is indeed a reskin of an unrelated PC game and the reason you never made it farther is because you have to collect specific items to progress. It's basically a fetch quest combined with a platformer.
M.U.L.E. was a computer game from EA back when EA was a little gaming studio. It was probably one of the most addictive and popular games EA ever put out (along with Archon). I was working for the studio at the time, and we would have multiple hour long sessions of M.U.L.E. on the clock. Hey, someone had to beta test, right? Still have my Atari 800xl version. Give it a 'D'? I think not. PS I just subscribed. May not agree with you being a very old school gamer (I'm in my 60's), but your videos are fun and nostalgic and you have a pleasant delivery.
fun fact the last starfighter nes game was actually a port of uridium that they rebranded as the last starfighter and changed some of the sin game sprites
11:33 “You discovered a mine” after being turned into a jar of Smuckers... c’mon- that’s brilliant! That’s some Sierra level death commentary, that should bump Infiltrator up to a B at least
Battleship is a great game, with really great musical tunes: I've rented this title a lot back in the day! Today the NES version is really expensive, damn! Finally you gave to games like NES' Gauntlet II, Paperboy 2 (which is way better than the first one in my opinion) and Roablasters the revenge they deserve: GREAT!
You should definitely watch madmax, it is still good to see even today, watched it a couple of weeks ago on a tv chanel and still liked it. One of these movies that left a mark, the first one is the best iin my opinion. It's action and gore of the 70's .....
The Days Of Thunder game was based off the movie. I used to Captain Planet on the nes. I would rank Captain Planet B. I told my friend one time C.P. was a drinking game for college students.
Don't worry, we also ranked LJN games for NES and, believe it or not, some aren't as bad as you think. ruclips.net/video/yX6FqMBlEw4/видео.html

A shame you ranked Mule so low, that game is actually quite fun, especially in multiplayer.
I JUST saw a comment of yours from 5 years ago on another M.U.L.E. video lol.
Exactly. People who love it love it.
@@egocide9034 yeah probably😂
I agree. M.U.L.E. is a classic!
Gauntlet 2 is "S" tier one of the best games that make use of the "4 score" accessory.
M.U.L.E. was a computer game from EA back when EA was a little gaming studio.
Alfred C for 'chicken' has a real distinct Game boy Color look to it.
Lol you got really deep on Captain Planet.
That Conan game looks an awful lot like Myth: History in the Making, which was doing the 'rounds on all the old 8-bit computers at the time.
Yup. Just a reskinned version of Myth, but without the epic Jereon Tel soundtrack.
Yep it’s Myth, except the ZX Spectrum 128K version is way better!
Thanks for the content Mister Riggs.
One of the best Terminator games to me is Sega CD The Terminator. That game is a masterpiece!
Yay, Mindscape! My favorite publisher! Atleast to collect for :) The Last Starfighter is insanely hard! Keep those lists coming, John :)
Road blaster. Was an arcade game. I played it at the local watering hole.
fun fact the last starfighter nes game was actually a port of uridium that they rebranded as the last starfighter and changed some of the sin game sprites
My pizza restaurant arcade game paperboy!
Ok, we NEED to have a multiplayer session of M.U.L.E. in the future! I'll teach you the ropes!
11:33 “You discovered a mine” after being turned into a jar of Smuckers... c’mon- that’s brilliant! That’s some Sierra level death commentary, that should bump Infiltrator up to a B at least
haha wow, the only game on this list that I played on NES was Paperboy. I missed a lot!
“You have to fly the helicopter by leaving the ground.”
That’s legit the only instructions I received when going for my pilot license. 🤣
