I did that set once during Christmas break while I was in middle school. Same interval. The mental challenge of it is REAL. And that :53.9 at the end is unbelievable. Great set!
I remember these sets back in high school 20 x 100 freestyle. But not no 100 x 100 yrds or 400 laps. Typical 2 hr practices are about 200 laps. Do not envy you guys/ ladies at all!! Hats off to you all!!! Mad respect. THAT WAS BRUTAL.This was no easy set!!!!👏👏👏 da_um !!!
Props for completing the 100*100. In my group we always did it on 31.12 as the final set of the year and it was preety tough but allways a great accomplishment when finished.
I swim high school and completed the 100x100’s last year on the 1:40 and even did the last 100 fly(which hurt), but now this year I have to try it on the 1:30. Wish me luck!

You would be surprised at what you can do! We are going to do it again in mid-January. Traditionally we always did it between Thanksgiving and Christmas, but the scheduling hasn't worked the last 2 years.@@yuldouz
We did this 25years ago in Bulgaria - Eastern Europe once a month. 50m LC in 1'30" interval. Also we did regulary 50x200m LCM in 3'00"... This is 10k. For 2.5hours

I did once in my swimming career a set 0f 24x400's starting on 6 minutes and finishing the last 4 on 5.00''. I still remember the filling of starvation for something sweet after this training session!
I'm 61 and doing about 4km swimming in a bit more than an hour, 6 days a week and I feel great! Yeah I'm old and slow, but 100 x 100 is awesome! Thanks Cody for encouraging pushing our limits!
@@EthelbertHemsGillson I agree that for my age is not bad, my rhythm in a good day and pushing to my limit could be around 1:40 or 1:41 per 100mts on average, which is a bit more than an 1hr. An elite swimmer of my age can do it in a bit less than 1hr, and I wish I will improve it.
Didnt think anyone did this any more with all the reduced yardage practices. We used to average 10k yards a practice, but the 100 100s was always the after thanksgiving practice. The only practice that was more monotonous then that is when we would do a 5000m for time, never understood the point of that one other then confusing the crap out of me trying to keep count at 5am.
Our Masters club does this every New Years Day but at an easier 1:45 pace. Us 70+ seniors do 100 75's, still a tough workout. Your swim was pretty impressive as I can't even swim your slowest pace for one much less decend
I likely won't get all 100 this year. I'm still getting over a broken shoulder from a skiing crash last winter but I'll do as many as I can. It is fun and we spend 3 hours getting it done. But when healthy, I can do it.@@ericmueller8505

Our triathlon club annually hosts a 100x100 on Xmas eve. Done it the previous two years but worked the event so didn’t have full 3 hours. Last year I out in 2.5hrs and knocked 8500m. This was actually a straight swim (on 1:30 ish) and not individual 100’s. At least it is setup long course. Did a 3,800 yd set this morning in 1 hr, short course yards. Fingers crossed for Sunday. Ps: 56 years old normally openwater colder water swimming

Did this once at a swim camp in the early 90s as well. Had to do 20 of them Fly 😬😬😬 All still on 1:30, but 25m pool, so lots of turns. Good for FS, not so much for BF lol

We used to do 100x100's once a year at BYU when I was on the team. I did 50x100's freestyle sub 49's, then the second 50 was backstroke holding 52's. They were on the 3:00 and each was from a start. One year we ate meat at a brazillian steakhouse for 4 hours after it :D
I’m 14 and do 100x75s every year. Our team has a week that starts the day after Christmas where all of our practices are roughly 6,000ish yards, the century practice being the last practice of the week
just turned 14... it is a tradition at my club to do this the day before new years eve so its coming up. this will be my 2nd time, but this time we r doing it in scm so itll be a lot harder, but im super excited. mad respect for doing it on 1:10 tho
My coach loved 50x100 in a lcm pool. Sounds funny for new guys on Christmas, they were excited to go home in 70 mins buuuut))) But we knew he’s gonna add 20x200 paddles. I was a distance swimmer for a long time so it was fun for me, was used to it. The last practice of the year was kinda varied ISL competition (since 2014 till 2021). We did warm up: 1000m or less!, and then we had 4x50m each style (50 butterfly, back, breaststroke, free) with 7-10 mins of rest. The main idea was to build, reach the fastest 200 medley. I always was the second or third cuz the first guy was the strongest sprinter of club and the guy I was competing the most - IM swimmer and the only option to gain the second place was to make long underwaters first three races and explode during the last 50 free. Anyway this first guy was my bestie so we shared 2l of cola and pizza after all😊. Your video and memories reminded me one of the sweetest moment of the season cuz it happened on New Year eve in the morning, most of regular kids, our classmates were happy to stay home or go for a walk. We were heading to the pool at 8 or 9 am and usually we were the only guests these days (31st December). It was a special feeling of pleasure. Plus we saw our “inner team” of group (8-10 persons from 18 in our group and 14-18 at all from the whole club) who was really interested of swimming and had it like a sense of life. We brought tech suits, caps, googles, somebody shaved😅. It wasn’t such a serious meet but it had special atmosphere of holiday, competition, friendships and teamwork. We didn’t become Olympic starts but I’m glad we have such a warm memories and childhood with my bestie and we plan to make it again together since he got in a good shape and my heart condition got better
I did 200x100 and it took me like 6 hours with my team. I’m 15 and had to skip part of school for it. Our interval was 1:20 btw so it wasn’t too slow. Keep in mind this guy is hopefully a future Olympian
Ive never done 100x100s , but ive been swimming 10km four timed a week for qlmost 4 months. Yes, its not the same sprinting than just staying withbthe same moderate pace, so this is AWESOME.

cody i finally broke a minute in the 100 free and i got 59 in prelims and the i got 58 in the finals!!! it was 2 and a half weeks ago and i was so happy
Impressive swim, I’m a 1:30 guy for my daily 4500 ( 62 yrs young) The energy needed to keep a sub 60 pace for 10km is inspiring… try it without the wall…. Open water on a lake, pretty sure you could do it… very motivating 👍
Shows how good elite swimmers are at things that are not their specialty. Swimming is also different to most other sports where frankly sprinters could do a decent 10km marathon. I’m not sure it would be the same for running or cycling.

I did 50x100 scm in November, and now I'm going to be doing a 60x100 scm for the end of the year. Some of my teammates are doing 100x100 scm but they just need to get it done, not on an interval.
I remember in highschool one of the first practices back to get a gauge for how fit we were our coach had us do 50x 100s on 1:20. I was gassed. 100 on 1:10 would be insane
In my good old days, I swam this set on 1:20. It was really tough because we swam a pace of 1:08. But my most exhausting set was 30x400 on 4:50. Don't try it, it's hell and absolutely absurd. And it was in 50 meter pool ✌🏻
We did this every New Year’s Day in high school. 100 X 100 on 100 seconds. It was too monotonous on 100 seconds so we went 120 seconds. Took a few hours. I hated the national set much more than this. We also swam a lot longer in club than this when we did 2 a days.

Our “difficult set” is 10x200 at a very fast interval. We’ve done 40x100 and 100x50 before as well though
