Had our 2nd this morning!
Baby Oliver Emerson Randall McLeod
congratulations! beautiful name! hope you and baby are doing well
@@iwannabeacowboybaby7050 we are! Easy home birth 🙌🏼 can't stop staring!
Ahhh huge congratulations!!! Xxx
Congratulations mama, sending care to you all (love his name) ❤️
I love, love, love the name Oliver. Great pick!
Would love to hear US stats as their high population is more indicative of long-term trends I feel. I'd love to hear Aussie stats though, too!! It would be interesting to compare the fast rising names in different English speaking countries.
Oh yes!! I’ll do that as a year round up! If I can get the Australian stats! Xx
@@SJ_Strum the McCrindle report is the best for AU stats 🙂
Yes please! I’m Aussie and some of the things I hear you say SJ just don’t apply to Australia - maybe we’re a bit weirder down here or something? Haha
The New Zealand stats have a whole spreadsheet available since 1950s! Super interesting to look through 😊
@@hannahpoynter7675 can you drop the link for that
Please do a Christmas/Winter inspired baby name list! I would love that!
Yes I will do! There’s 3 on my channel already! Xxz
Lovely jumper this week SJ looking flawless as always.
Great name list too!! I've always loved Beau/Bo
Love the list! I have a video suggestion, perhaps a list surrounding Remembrance Day as it is coming up x
Oh yes it is!! That’s a gorgeous idea thank you x
Aww I have a little Remy, so nice to hear it on your list!! I love his name and it suits him perfectly 🤍 I also love Beau, french names are so beautiful 😍
So pleased to see Kobe go up so much on your side of the pond! Looking forward to seeing the US list!
And yes, please do this for the American lists!
Much love to you and your family, SJ. ❤ I'd love to see videos based on the American stats, along with any autumn or winter lists you feel inspired to do. From this one, I love Archer and Remy.
Perfect timing!! We’ve just found out we’re expecting a boy 😅💙 Due March 22…. naming dilemma begins x
Congratulations! I know you will pick the right name for your little boy.
Congratulations! 🥰
Ay me and my twin's birthday is the 23rd. Great birthday! Unless it's on Easter
Omg congratulations that’s wonderful 💕
That’s my birthday! Good luck on your name hunt! Boy names are way harder than girl I feel!
Thanks for those names! Some lovely ones there! I will show my DH later and see what he thinks
I think this is the first time that I’ve heard my sons name (Otto) in one of your videos since he was born exactly a year ago. I know it wasn’t on the list, but it’s funny to hear it mentioned. People still find it so unusual, even though it’s being used loads at the moment!
I have a Phoenix 🧡 We already loved the name, and then when he was born with red hair (and a fiery personality!) we knew it was meant to be.
I would love to hear the American lists!! 😊💜
Best wishes to your family SJ
I love love love rare names!!! 💖
Love the name Otto. I think Jax & Jaxson are so going to be remembered as 2020s names just like the many Matthews from the 1970s & 80s.
Otto was rising so fast too! It was just outside the top 200 so I left it out but it’s huge! Xxx
Just named my son Otto last year, a very sweet name indeed! Met another woman in my town who almost named her son the same- born within a week of my son!
Marley for me is more Christmassy because of Christmas Carol! Sending love to you and Naomi and your family. xxx
I'm a baby name fanatic and love watching your videos to learn new names. I was recently at the store and the guy at the cash was named Phoenix. He was young, maybe 18-21 and I thought his name was so cool. I can't wait to see what the next generation name their kids and how names evolve.
Oh my god yes!!! I’m so glad someone else is as obsessed as me! Xxx
@@SJ_Strum Thanks so much for loving my comment and replying! Have a great day!
I love Phoenix! But i would never use it in Germany so it's one that'll get away from me 😥😂
I'd have brothers called Phoenix and Gryffin in a heartbeat if I lived in an English speaking country
@@Abbytix Phoenix and Gryffin are amaing names for brothers! Its a shame you won't be able to use them.
Phoenix is v. Popular in South West uk. I know quite a few ranging from 5 to 18 yrs old.
I love nature names like River and Asher, and would not be at all surprised if they become very popular in the future. My little boy is called Ivo - it means 'yew tree'.
I would love to see the American version of this (and any other) list! I’ve got a baby boy due in February and I need name help!
I love love Elias!! As a french bilingual person I’d love to give my children English friendly names. It’s not that easy to find! I plan to make them listen to English at a young age like I was, so they can be at ease in english, which unfortunately is not the case if France for many people, unlike other European countries like Norway or Sweden were children are bilingual at a young age. I remember being 8 and listening to songs in english and having child’s books as well. 😊
I love Archer, it was on my list for our last baby for a boy or a girl. We had a boy and ended up calling him Atticus
It's so interesting to hear which names are popular or rare in other parts of the world. Being part of a religious community all the "rare" Hebrew/Biblical boy names are very common... Josiah, Hezekiah, Jacob, Reuben, Ezra, Levi, Isaac, Shiloh, Ephraim, Abraham(Abe), Isaiah, Elijah, Elisha, etc.
Love following your videos SJ!
Love from Canada
okay, i have seen your necklace in earrings in too many videos now not to ask where you got it. they draw my attention every time they are so cute.
I have an Axel born 2019 and an Ezra born 2017. Lots of the names you mentioned were on my list.
Oh wow! xxx
I’ve been loving Vincent with the nickname Vinnie I think it’s so cute
Yes it’s on a lot of lists I hear from mums to be! Xxx
I would love to hear/see the American version of these list with the girl and boy names. Also would love the Christmas/winter list. Not that i need any names but i love to see them
Proud mama to a Xavier Cole here ☺️💙 now 18 months old…we love the ‘bright, splendid’ part of his name meaning - plus it just sounds super cool and isn’t toooo common (yet 🥴)
First time seeing my son's name on a list. I love every single one of these names.
Elias is the best of these, (IMO) I would go with more, El-Lee-us pronunciation :) I like Marley & Me 😀 👍 too
I have watched your nameslists and loved your videos while I was pregnant.
Two weeks ago I gave birth yo my son Odin! I just lovr mythological names, but apart from that it just was the name for us!
And we get a lot of compliments from people that they love the name! And wonder where wr got it from.
I remember that it was in your lists and the name came back in other name lists as well!
Congratulations!
My son is in the NICU atm and when I go to his room I will peek at the name boards if the curtains are opened in the rooms when I pass by. Here are the names I collected that I can remember off the top of my head:
Mina
David
Ryder
Helena
Bryson
Sophia
Kevin
…
Best name:
Legend (amazing! I think it’s a little girl)
Least favorite:
Gary III
Oh wow! Gary III :-))) Hope your little babe is home really really soon - will be thinking of you xxx
Would love to hear the US charts, thanks.
Absolute favourites are Lorenzo and Rex and I think they’d d work beautifully together. Also love Vincent as Vince is gorgeous
I taught an Elias pronounced ee-lee-ass. Their family was from Somalia.
Also taught a Musa and a Yahya! Think this name list shows how multi cultural we are in the U.K. now and I love it
Elias has been one of my favourites for so long its gorgeous ! Raphael is such a cute name. river (for a boy) has been on my list for ages i think its so cute for a wee son
In France, there are classes full of Raphaels, Louis, Gabriel, Maxime/Maxence…
My son is three weeks old (in Australia) & we named him Jax Beau James.
Finding a name was so difficult for a boy! We didn’t name him until we looked at him but we did have Bear & Opie as top contenders, he just looked so much like a Jax.
My husband’s name is Keegan Anthony James, he is adopted but his birth Mum (whom is unknown to us) actually named him Anthony James. His adoptive parents wanted to keep that as part of him, so moved it to his middle name.
My brothers name is Regan Bo-Jay. So landed on Beau James as Jax’s middle name to honour the two closest men in my life and hopefully will be in our son’s life.
Love this name story so much! xxx
Congratulations!
I would love to see the US lists!
Musa = Prophet Moses in Arabic
Zakariya = Prophet Zakariya (father of John the Baptist) in Arabic
Yahya = Prophet John the Baptist in Arabic
They are all such popular baby boy names at the moment, I know so many under 6!
i love seeing these lists!! but hate seeing the names on my list that i thought were ‘rare’ rising🥲😂 i’m sure my mind will change many more times before i’d have to pick though! thank you for doing so much research on the trends!!X
Same, I have a two year old Elias, a 6 year old Ayden, which didn’t seem popular when we were making him. Pregnant with baby boy 3, it’s a challenge to find a name, out of so man names my husband and I are down to three and one was on this list.
Sorry to hear of your difficulties, I thought the podcast was (brilliant obvs as usual!) perfectly fine, don’t even worry about it!!
Ahhh thanks so so much xxx
I love Rafael and always thought it was a fresh and interesting alternative to Gabriel ! I still love it and its' meaning! I also love Isaiah( the name of one of my darling nephews), and Abel, Elias, Asher and Archer.I also love Marley for a boy or girl.
I did not like the name Kobe until you said the meaning..turtle or tortoise lol. I LOVE IT!
40 weeks 2 days pg here and just (not very patiently) waiting lol.
Elias is a top middle spot choice for us. Vincent is one of my cousins, but I do love the name. I like Rex but I really don't think I'm brave enough to actually use it lol. I like Asher as well.
Ahhhh any minute now! Let us know when they arrive :-)) xxx
Yes, please do the US names
Rocco reminds me of the show from Nickelodeon Rocco's Modern Life. And Yahya also means grandma in Greek!
I would love to hear US list
Would love to hear the US list and Christmas list! Due in January with second boy and still don’t have a name 🙈
If you want a name for your baby you could name her Genevieve if it is a girl because it is a beautiful name and it would suit the name of your baby or Christian if it is a boy and it would also suit and they have nice meanings as well. You want to have a baby that sounds good and nice to use. Your baby might end up liking a long name if you decided to do that. what do you think.
Just had my second boy: Octavian Reid. My first boy was Theodore Henry
Wow that's stunning! Huge congratulations xxxx
Can u please do fantasy name please love u videos xxxx💗💗💗
Would love to hear the American lists!
I have a 5 year old boy called Marley who loves being in nature. Never knew the meaning of his name until watching this video🥰
I had no idea!!! Which is funny as watching this back I loved Marlowe as a girls name and has a similar meaning xxx
Elias has been in the top 10 in Sweden for several years, such a cute name!
Oh my goodness, some of these are currently on my list 😆 I don't know what I'm having yet, but some on my boy list are Isaiah at #1, Xavier (pronounced "X-Avier", like how they do with Prof. X on X-men lol not "Zavier") I've also listed Archer and Asher.
Ohhh that’s lovely! X
Yes do the America version
I wonder if Vinny with a y is traditionally the short form for Vincent, I only suggest this as you're saying that Vinnie with an ie is likely to be the short form for Alvin as it's meaning seems to be elf
My little girl is 3, she's a Marlie. I adore her name. It was recieved with many mixed opinions but she just suits it so much 🥰
Isaiah is pronounced eye-ZYE-ah in the UK. Eye-ZAY-ah is the American pronunciation.
There’s a Netflix programme called fate and there’s a girl on there called musa, they also have a terra, river and lots more, I’ve put a lot of those names on my list x
my brother's name is river & my sister's name is phoenix, i have only met one other person with either of their names! so interesting to see them rise in popularity
I love Elias and Isaiah!
I've got 2 boys. Their names are Felix & Neo, don't know of anyone with the name Neo. i've had so many positive comments on his name and i've never seen it on one of your videos. I love it sooooo much xx
When I get to the end and am relieved that none of my names are on here 😂😂
Love Archer and Abel!
I also love Lorenzo using Enzo as a nn
I have an Abel in my wider family who is now 27 & it was really out there at the time he was born. Nice to see it getting more used.
I have always loved the sound of Xavier and I like Elias!
I have an Axel Jared and a Trey Bennington some amazing names on this list x
Wow axel is getting so much love! X
Phoenix is the name I have chosen for my little boy due in Jan! 🖤
My little boy is called Casper and he suits it so much. Big blue eyes and a head full of white hair 😍 so many people comment on how much he suits his name!
Love watching your videos Sophie! I can't get over how well Casper suits your little boy! We just had a baby boy 3 weeks ago and names him Raphael (hope it suits as well as Casper's name suits him!!)
Musa in Finnish means music (from word musiikki). 🙂 I love Elias and Elia.
Oh that’s amazing to know! Thank you so much xxxx
I love Lorenzo!
Yes I’d love a US list!
Elias Archer is going to be my son’s name! ❤️ I love Elias soooo much. I’ve never met an Elias here where I live in the US. We chose Elias to honor my partner, as his middle name is Eli. And Archer is to honor my grandfather, who has made bows and arrows by hand for as long as I can remember and is always outside using them. 🥰
Someone who lives on the same floor as me in my apartment is named Elias with the nickname Michelle, don’t ask me how that happened 😂
When I was a barmaid we had a customer named Abel who would come in sometimes and he was always the nicest man. Maybe it's weird to talk about a customer that way but he just seemed like a really stand up guy. Well groomed, masculine and never too fresh with the girls. Just kind, pleasant and easy to interact with. He's the only one I've ever met with that name.
Our little boy is 11 weeks old and called Marley 💙
I like Asher and Abel from that list but I probably wouldn’t use them. Dante and Nate are my faves at the moment.
Musa just makes me think of Musa from winx club, the fairy of music
Please do the American lists! I’m 20 weeks pregnant with my first baby and we’re having a hard time with names.
I'm past being able to have babies being more of a grandmother's age, but I still like looking up names.
The book I most like was published in 1946 and has had several reprints over the decades. It is called The Oxford Dictionary of English Christian Names. Maybe you have heard of it already, but what I like about it the most is that it shows the other spellings of names going as far back as the 13th century. I got it out of the library yesterday and pulled out two names I like that I haven't heard suggest: Eudo and Rosamund. The first because I first read it in one of Ellis Peters' Brother Cadfael novels. The second because I like the S being pronounced like a Z.
Also some advice. Before you suggest a name, look at the way it can be played with by children who will find any way to tease a kid if they can. Example Solomon: Poor Solomon Grundy, washed his face on Monday etc. etc. Kids who remember their nursery rhymes will latch on to it immediately.
Eudo sounds cool
Does anyone have middle name suggestions? I'm currently considering Griffin, last name Swooper but am a bit stuck on a middle name as there seems to be quite a few strong consonant sounds already.
Jaxson is such a popular name where I’m from! I’ve worked in different daycares and I’ve had at least 50 Jaxson’s lmao!
I know a 16 year old boy named Sage Phoenix - I think he has a pretty rad name!
We just had a Raphael 3 weeks ago!
Love Cody
“Vin-ay, what a fun British name!” 😂😂”I’m not strong enough for this!” @vthomasenglish
No cause thats where my mind instantly went as well 😂
My great grandson is named Ovie, which also means king. I love it. Has it been on any of your lists?
Hello everyone! I'm due with baby number 2 in the next month. It's a boy and we are wanting something gaelic/ Celtic but also something you don't hear all the time. We're down to 2 names- Euan/ Ewan, or Lorcan. Hubby loves Lorcan but it might be a bit too out there for me and I think it sounds a bit sci-fi. Thoughts? Our first son is Alasdair (gaelic version of Alastair). I thought it was unique and traditional without being too weird, yet people seem to struggle with the name.
I like Lorcan it reminds me of Lycan. Depends on where you are for the spelling of the nam name Euan/Ewan. I do like it though. I foresee pronunciation and spelling errors if you have them with Alasdair. Even my phone wanted to change it to Alastair. I’m not a name expert and prefer something different even if it does cause confusion
Finley/Finlay or Hamish are quite pronounceable and still on theme x
Back in 2014 when I was teaching daycare there was a girl named Phoenix there. I always thought it was a little too far out there for me. Here in America names that are nature themed are definitely huge (Willow, River, Lily, Rose, etc). along with Hebrew names in biblical communities (Isaiah, Issac, Asher, Canaan).
I work at a daycare centre and there’s a little boy who goes there called Kobe 😊 He’s such a sweet little boy 😊
Elias is actually Greek, the Greek version of Elijah, and it means "The Lord is God". It's my 24-year-old brother's name, and my dad was studying Greek when we were born (my name is Greek too). He grew up never hearing anyone else named Elias (unless we met someone from the Middle-east because it's very common there).
My two year old is Emrick Terence and my two month old is Desmond Matthew. Both middle names are for fam. Em (Emmy) & Desi for nicknames. 💚
You may have mentioned Desmond on your channel but I never heard Emrick here.
I purposely didn’t use the Emerick version here because my name is Meredith (Mer). Unfortunately I didn’t realize how close it sounds to my husband’s name, I introduce him as Nicholas but I’m lazy and say Nick a lot 🤣. Mernick 😑
I love the name Rockmond I wish it was popular I don't know anyone with that name except for Rockmond Dunbar
Do the american version?
I love unisex names! I have one as well (Taylor), and if we have a girl she will be named Dylan
I’m a Vincent, nickname Vince. Don’t meet too many people with the same name but it’s known enough that people don’t have to ask twice!
My guilty pleasure name is Shepherd nn Shep for a boy. I like the nn Raff as well but one of my closest friends is Rafael/Raffi.
I absolutely love shepherd too! Xx
I know a little boy called Shepherd/Shep! So adorable!
Annaedits on here has named her little boy Ralph and I'm in love!!! We are due a baby in March and me and my husband can't agree xx
Oooh Ralph is so cute!! Hope you find something on my channel. Xxxx
I love beau and river really cute. I don't know any one with these
They are very popular at the moment.
I have a toddler Vincent, I expected to call him Vinny but he’s definitely Vincent.
Would love an American list!
