I thought about mentioning that I did a pre light in set a light and it was a huge help. It’s kinda like a video game. Looks like you have been crazy busy so I’m looking forward to seeing some more videos out of you!
Hello Cody! Thank you so much for this breakdown. I have a question; What is the name of that app you used for the 3d visualization of the lighting towards the end of the video? Thank you!
Hey thanks for watching! I learned about “set a light 3D” from Blaine Westropp’s channel. He has a full breakdown of how to use it. It was a game changer for me, little learning curve in the beginning but then it feels like a video game. www.elixxier.com/en/set-a-light-3d/#v2=63cff39376ec3
Hey thanks! I did grade this it’s mainly filmbox with a few WB and exposure tweaks but very minimal work done. I actually brought the highlights down on her face in davinci but after export they went back to being hot and I was too lazy to go fix it 😂
@@codylarosa Awesome! I've had my eye on film box for while but most examples I've seen have had too strong of a film look for my taste. This feels more subtle and the colors are perfect. I would love to see a color grading tutorial from you at some point in the future. Thanks for the detailed response, new sub here :)
@@OliverCodd Thanks for the kind words! I usually use either phantom luts or filmbox depending on the context of the shoot. With filmbox I turn down the halation and turn off the grain. I like both of those things but when uploading to RUclips it usually destroys the image with grain in it. Also comparing filmbox to dehancer IMO you can get more looks with dehancer, BUT the image straight out of film box with minimal work is better. And I’m more interested in that.
@@codylarosa Yeah I've never been a massive fan of dehancer. I'm currently using Film Unlimited which is great but I think filmbox still has the edge. Thanks again for the detailed reply!
It’s perhaps a little detail, but some people will notice it. The scene with the Muslim woman speaking, there is a Christian cross right behind her in the kitchen?
great previs, killer location. great job
Thanks Bryce, got so lucky with the location I was stoked!
This is absolutely stunning. You've captured me on the very first shot.
Means so much! Love a frame within a frame
the first shot looks dope, would love a breakdown on that :)
I could do that! That one is actually quite simple
@@codylarosa all the shots look amazing, but that first one really caught my eyes, really appreciate your time and effort
What is the software you are using to plan lighting?
It’s called “set a light 3D” learned it from the best @blainewestropp he has a discount code too
More of this please. Gorgeous shots and lighting (and grade). Would actually love to see a grading breakdown too.
Thanks so much! Getting a good amount of requests for the grade may have to do a video on my process even tho it’s quite simple
Just discovered your channel and I love this breakdown thank you for sharing this Cody !

1:12 Stunning work mate. Was this the fx3 and 50mm?
Yes exactly! That’s where we used the LiDAR setup and thank you btw
Looks amazing! Did you grade this as well? Really love the colors.

Hey Jon :)
name of the software for lighting?
Set a Light 3D by elixxer
Sick breakdown. What mic + audio setup did you use for the dialogue scenes?
Do you mean my talking head or what the audio engineer was using?
@@codylarosa the studio engineer
@@Monosifon I think he was using the MKH50
@@Monosifon I have a pic of his setup I can DM you
any colorgrading videos how to ?
Maybe in the future I’m not much of a colorist. I have a very simple approach using either phantom luts or filmbox
Are you in Cleveland?
Yes sir!
4:15 this kitchen kinda look like the one on marriage story
I need to check this out, is this a movie?
It’s perhaps a little detail, but some people will notice it. The scene with the Muslim woman speaking, there is a Christian cross right behind her in the kitchen?
Good eye! We removed that so it’s not present during the actual shots :)
