- Official HD Video for "Prime Time" by The Alan Parsons Project
`Prime Time' was the second single from `Ammonia Avenue' - a 1984 studio album by The Alan Parsons Project. The video is inspired by John Collier's story "Evening Primrose" and features two mannequins coming to life and falling in love in a downtown nighttime setting straight out of a horror movie. The single was a hit in the US and features APP founder and songwriter Eric Woolfson on lead vocals and Wurlitzer piano. The regular trio of Ian Bairnson, David Paton and Stuart Elliott feature on guitars, bass and drums with additional vocals by Chris Rainbow

This band produced some of the most beautiful music ever created
Maybe one of the most underrated bands of all time..
Nope. They are great why do you think they underrated
I never hear them on the radio, big reason ill agree to being under rated.
They got a huge amount of airplay and sales in their day. Their sound fell out of fashion but it's great, high-quality music.
@@rockizoa buuu....
Definitely
Alan Parsons and Eric Woolfson got timeless masterpieces....
Alan Parsons, now 73 years old. What an icon. Just realizing all my favorite artists are in their 70s 😢 hope they live forever.🙏
He looks only 63!
the man engineered Abbey Road AND Dark Side
of the Moon... 2 of the greatest albums ever made.
they do live forever!!!
That is my age today, 2022 - 73, grew up on this. My favorite music.
I just said that to my husband the other day.
Losing the great artists of the 70’s - one of, if not THE best era of music, makes me so sad.
I work at a record store and one morning my boss dropped the needle on this album. I heard this song and just stood there dumbfounded listening intently, having one of the most intense moments of frisson I've ever experienced. This, followed by I Robot, sent me into a music rabbithole I never expected. Alan Parsons is a truly talented man and an inspiration as a fellow music producer. The sky's the limit.
Dr. Wayne Dyer: The Sky is the Limit. Too.
Eye in the Sky :)
Reflux good double shot or twin spins we call it nice
Im happy for you , you discovered this amazing band, but you should thank Eric Woolfson (rip) he composed practical every song !
Yes one ought not go fishing down the rabbit hole
This song never gets old....the guitar solo is also one of the best.
Forever*** Like Pyramids*** music take You to higher States of Consciousness***** Alpha--Omega
Guitar/bass duet!
It is so badass! I keep replaying it! de nana nana nana nana nana nana neowww! de nana nana nana nana nana nana neowww!!!
Ian Bairnson played on the very first Kate Bush LP’s. You might recognise his style on Wuthering Heights
the ultra talented Ian Bairnson :)
I’m 52 and been listening to APP for 40+ years because my dad loved them. Thanks Dad for introducing me to great music. Dad has a pair of klipsch horns that we still listen to them today.
He was the man behind Dark Side Of The Moon. I expect no less.
Eric Woolfson was a real genius Great songwriter and singer.. RIP
Indeed, the Eric Woolfsons Project !
@@aldo2708 A more aptly named band, I'm sure he regretted.
@@aldo2708 No! The Parsons/Woolfson project
No the woolfson project would be justified !!
@@aldo2708 come on, what do you know about Alan? He made a sound to all songs in the APP. Without him this can not be a music
I'm 18 years old and I love the Alan Parsons Project
Im loving this song in 2024
It had just entered the charts in May 1984, forty years ago. I appreciate and love it more than I did back then when I was only 21.
One of the most innovative bands ever. Absolutely love them, and this song.
My father was the biggest APP fan. I never really gave them a chance as a kid. Now I know why he loved them! They are phenomenal! Such timeless songs. I can easily see this being made today!
My dad was as well, many of their songs remind me of him.
I have been a follower since the late '70s when I was a teenager, and got the first taste of their music. It is still a joy to listen to them.
What a guitar part from Ian Bairnson! I remember, once I was hanging out in my apartment with a music channel on the TV on and barely noticed a guitar solo during a live concert of Beverly Craven and then I stopped... but.. but.. this guitar touch.. this vibrato.. isn't that Ian Bairnson? I rushed to the TV to see him actually playing with Beverley Craven. Haha I was so happy to see him and so proud to have recognized his unique guitar touch...
Bairnson's guitar pick of choice is a sixpence. Very distinctive sound.
RIP Ian. ❤
This whole album rocks. This song and "Don't Answer Me" are my two favorites from it.
Best group.."intelligent lyrics..fantastic real music.....
' PYRAMID POWER********
Something so good about AAP. Prime time is one of the best songs of the late 70s early 80s. Alan Parsons Project never disappoints.
I know I am not the only one that remembers the summer this song was popular. Back when MTV really was 24 hour music video
MTV had... MUSIC??!!! No way!!! Next thing you are going to say is that the History Channel use to show actual history, not stories about UFOs of demon possessed houses!
Yes!!!!
@@jdsheleg8332 beat me to this comment by a year...
@@jdsheleg8332 and god knows if a documentary of demon semen exists.
And The Learning Channel was a station that actually taught you something before Honey Boo Boo came along.
I’m 19 and love them. My parents have a great taste in music
I love this guys voice.
+Tracy It's Eric Woolfson on lead vocals, co-writer and producer with Alan Parsons on nearly all their albums. He also played keyboards. Sadly, he died in December 2009.
+Joseph Bennett his beautiful warm voice takes me back to my childhood
Its true, some of the best people in the world are the ones that dont consider themselves fit for the trade they are thrown into.
Eric never considered himself a polished singer, he just wanted to write songs and play the piano parts of the songs. However, as a songwriter and Executive Producer, he had to make a guide vocal track for the singers that were brought in, eventually he sang "Time" and it was a big hit, and with a music label pressuring them to get Eric to sing more, he had to keep singing on their albums.
Eric Woolfson. The real genius.
Recently discovered this song. What a gem!
I saw Alan Parsons last January. He was truly amazing!! God bless Alan Parsons with many more years!☺️☺️☺️☺️☺️
Amen!
Awesome 80s song that seems to have fallen thru the cracks these days.
RIP Lydia.. if I only saw the warning sign 😢
only for those that dont know better....
You know, considering this was before CGI, and they didn't have an unlimited budget, I think they did a very good job with the special effects, costumes, props and sets. This video really captures the mood, very well, and tells a story. Whoever did this was very creative, imaginative, and I think made a lot of great choices. It's still interesting to watch all these years later, and of course, the song is amazing.
I agree it's a great video. Back then, they didn't have huge budgets for music videos but were able to create some good ones. You don't need huge budgets, CGI, etc. to make something good, look at the original Dr. Who series. This video is similar to the Twilight Zone episode "The After Hours." If you want to see it, the original version in B/W with Anne Francis is the one to see. There was a remake in 1986 with Terry Farrell and Ann Wedgeworth. It's not bad, but the original was much better.
Se.pasan..devuenos...
Eric Woolfson was like a poet. His lyric writing skills were on par with Bob Dylan.
In my personal opinion Bob Dylan is an overrated composer and singer, I don't like him. Frank Zappa is/was the best.
@@angelomezzadri2463 Frank Zappa is overrated, not Dylan.
@@tuxysmagicaljukebox5431the number of songs Zappa wrote, in the modem history of music, there's rarely a man/woman/machine of that order... Zappa is just incomparable, and if you disagree, you just don't know music, that's a matter of fact.
@@josephpaul8874 None of his work has fascinated me with the exception of Hot Rats.
Zappa and Dylan are two horribly out of tune guys. Must have been the devil
I had almost forgotten this gem! I love Alan Parsons!
My favorite Alan Parsons Project song! Back in 1984 I used to play my 45 of that song over and over! I was disappointed that it didn't chart better than it did.
I heard it on the radio quite a bit but I agree. At that time is should've easily been a top 10 hit. Still made the top 40 though and was played a lot on rock radio.
So many great songs to choose from. I have to say "Don't Answer Me" would have to be my fav if I had to choose one.
also my favorite song but I did not deal in 45's, I bought the album, my two favorite songs on this album was Prime Time & Ammonia Avenue
Yeah, what pissed me off about APP was how they'd like edit some of their tracks on their best of's like this song on Best of Part 2... When I was first getting into them back in high school, I was like buying a CD probably every two weeks but I remember buying the 2nd Best of and loving the song... then when I finally get to Ammonia Ave., I remember kind of being like WTH guys!? hearing that like 45 or 1 minute they'd chopped off the best of. Like damn that was a good ending and unfortunate edit lol
I think I still have this 45. 🙂
You could be having the worst day of your life. Your blood pressure could be shooting through the roof. An Alan Parsons Project song comes on the radio. Your blood pressure drops like a rock. The frown on your face becomes a smile.
In Summer 1984, pop/rock fans still listen to this 80s Prime Time classic in the Summer of 2024. This really hits home even to this day!
Love that song so much. I never understood why it did not hit first in charts at that time. A classic.
.......something in the air!!!! For sure.
OMG I havent seen this video in sooo many years. I remember my uncle had all their videos. I love all their songs and videos. Their music was unique and so was the videos. No one was like them back then at all. I wish they still making music! :'(
Alan is still doing so...
Thirty-four years and this video still gives me the chills. We never see who's driving the truck.
Don’t really need to. The mannequins in it are what the story revolves around. :)
A very good song, accompanied by a vid that took its cues from The Twilight Zone and The Night Stalker. Alan Parsons was a very underrated band, but its music has stood the test of time.
I am 17 years old and today in 2023 I listen these masterclass from The Alan Parsons Project, my dad listen to it and I've very appraciated this moment, since a short time I've begun to listen to it. Thanks for these moment The Alan Parsons Project !
How old now
@@drowz9825 same
I remember as a kid I used to have reoccurring dreams about what the mannequins in the mall did after everybody went home at night. I used to feel like they were watching me whenever I'd go there. Staring at me, a little smile on their painted faces. Almost like they knew that I knew about them. I guess it's weird, but I was a VERY imaginative kid. This video came out and it was so eerie and creepy to me but I absolutely LOVED it! It's a great song, but the video is something I'll never forget. I still think about it whenever I see a mannequin.
Una musica che mi accompagna da più di 50 anni…
It is about 'Time' (no pun intended!) that Alan Parsons was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. He certainly deserves it!
Alan Parsons Project were one great group and this is my all time favorite of theirs. It's sad that music died after the 80's.
This song is absolutelly awesome. Still hearing this in August 2023
With the years, this band become one of my favorites. ❤😊
The Alan Parsons Project became a far better band when Eric Woolfson was allowed to sing. His vocals were truly unique and perfect for their music. He is missed sorely.
John Miles, Lenny Zakatek and the late Chris Rainbow were no slouch.
Oh Please, not saying I don't like Woolfson's vocals because I really do. he was just one of the chorus of excellent vocals. Just one example that proves you wrong "I Robot" Oh wait one more "Pyramids" oh wait one more " Tales of Imagination" oops one more "Eve"
Lenny was awesome dude...
@@Arbadee.PayZaLee Eric Woolfson could have been the only vocalist if he had wanted to because he always sang the demos to the singers since they were songs written by himself.
@@Kaleiddmode Except of one the more unique attributes of APP was the diversity in the vocalists. Using a single vocalist would have limited the different styles and ranges of the songs. Woolfson's voice definitely helped keep the APP diversified and I would rank him up as one of the top vocalist.
Eric's most important contribution was the collaboration with Alan on writing and producing all these great meaningful songs and the Project would have greatly suffered and possibly never have happened without their partnership. He had a wonderfully rich voice. and I was very sad when I found out he had succumbed to his illness.
I am not sure but if I am able to be lying on my death bed listening to music (after a very long a fruitful life), I hope one of APP's songs will be the last song I have the chance and pleasure to experience. The real question is, which one will it be and will it be one with lyrics or one of their instrumental pieces. I'm leaning towards "Nothing Left To Lose" but there are so many to choose from! Every Dec 2nd I pay tribute to Eric, I closed the door to my stereo room, sit back in the dark without distractions and enjoy a couple of Woolfson's songs and remember his great works! 64 short years of existence is far too short of a life.
this song sends chills down my spine, and when that guitar solo kicks in,it just hits the mark.Turned on to them from edgar allan poe,and have everything since then, turn of a friendly card is a rock landmark album in my opinion.
Turn of a Friendly Card is my all-time favorite album. I grew up listening to that album, and have bought a few copies of it as an adult.
Musicians were so much more talented back then...
RIP Ian bairnson. ❤️

HERMOSO. UNA OBRA DE ARTE, UN CLÁSICO. SALUDOS DESDE LA DISTANCIA.............
Alan is a badass of a songwriter.
He's not dead, you know.
No, it was ERIC WOOLFSON who wrote all the songs and lyrics and just because he had a partnership with Alan Parsons , he added him as songwriter too.
AP still has a strong respect for Eric. I was at an Alan Parsons Project concert recently, and they played a set dedicated to Eric Woolfson's memory. It was a great show.
A Contract is a Contract.
Im not an expert, but my understanding is that Eric wrote the songs, playing them on piano and singing them (listen to the demo version of Old and Wise). Then Alan comes along and decides which instruments play where, and then he also decides which person sings the songs. That is why both of them get songwriting credits.
How was this song not more popular..?
It was very popular back in the day. Maybe not in every radio market though.
Millions of fools were making the transition to c-rap.
1. IIRC it didn't get video play when Ammonia Ave. was released. (Don't Answer Me did.)
2. It was a very good song on an outstanding album with a lot more very good songs. I like it but personally I can name 3 other songs on the album I like better
I'm here in 2023. ❤
Superb guitars...perfection itself.
I was around when it first came out, and I just can not stop listening to it, it is just one of the best records ever. The video is also a perfect match for the song. Genius.

Well even the longest night won't last forever
But too many hopes and dreams won't see the light
And all of the plans I make won't come together
Something in the air
Maybe for the only time in my life
Something in the air
Turning me around and guiding me right
And it's a prime time, maybe the stars were right
I had a premonition, it's gonna be my turn tonight
Gonna be my turn tonight
Well even the brightest star won't shine forever
But all of the hands I play are working out right
And every move I make feels like a winner
Something in the air
Maybe for the only time in my life
Something in the air
Turning me around and guiding me right
And it's a prime time, maybe the stars were right
I had a premonition, it's gonna be my turn tonight
Gonna be my turn tonight
Gonna be my turn tonight

Me siento muy afortunado y halagado en contar aún con este álbum donde se desprende éste gran tema. Ammonia Avenue de los fantásticos años 80's muy buena música para nosotros los amantes de la misma.
My favorite song by one of my all time favorite bands. Love the APP. 🖤
Unlike the music videos of today, this one told a story!
Their videos are some of most unique I have ever seen..

After thirty plus years, this album has become the staple of supermarket background music. Its a real laugh when people push the carts through the cleaning products aisle. As their eyes scan and land upon the bottles of *Parsons'® Ammonia*, what plays over the speakers other than _For we shall seek and we shall find Ammonia Avenue_?
Eric was the real genious of this Band. And his voice was unique.
Omg fire 🔥 wish we had music like this coming out now
If we did, you wouldn't know about it. It wouldn't sell, so the artists would just be unknown.
Yeah good luck with that happening! Music will continue to get worse!
Whenever I'm in the mood to watch something with a little creep factor, I watch this. I'm considering getting a bunch of junk mannequins, placing them around the house, one in the closet (I'll open the door via remote controlled actuator), & one down the hall silhouetted so just the outline is discernible, putting a cam on the bookshelf and recording my wife's reaction when she gets home.
Check out the Twilight Zone episode "The After Hours" if you haven't already. It's like this video.

Awsom band!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ammonia Avenue was one of the albums that saved my life in the winter of '93.
I have always loved Eric Woolfson's Wurlitzer piano. With the chorus effect on it, it has a magical, distinctive "hollow" sound.
Alan Parsons and Steely Dan are in the same category of genius. You get to the top, then there are elite within the elite.
Such a great song. But for me the real highlight is Bairnson's melodic guitar playing. Very tasteful with just the right amount of grittiness. Such an under-appreciated musician.

I never thought of it that way. I always thought of it as being inspired by the Twilight Zone episode "The After Hours."
In recent years, the Philippine music industry has observed an influx of Original Filipino Music thriving in the genre The Alan Parsons Project were known for: vintage, old-school, and Indie-based. There have distinct features from one band to another, but because most millenials and zillenials have longed for songs that not only captivated their hearts, but also reconnected them, this trend upsurges which resonated the music era of 80s until 90s. They have come forward to reward us with songs that truly humanize our souls for soul-quenching lyrics.

This work, Twilight Zone After Hours (either 1960 or1986 versions), and Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now by Starship, are the most unsettling visual operas about mannequins.
