It's actually a way to train and strengthen their bench press. By using the "paddles" the athlete can work on certain ranges of motion and hit different variations of muscle fibres that wouldn't normally be isolated because the entire muscle is working. It works very well I must say.
@shanester94 Yeah I know why they put the wood there but when they take it down to the chest without the wood, they are not strict about their movement. They might as well take 30 lbs off of the bar
@Musikloveful its a different way to bench, it works a sticking point, like it'll help him get the weight up from that spot instead of doing the full range of motion

wait so linebackers can get the ball? my freshman lineman coach told me i should be an outside linebacker because I'm quite fast for my weight and I have the strongest legs within all sophomores and freshmen.
