The next vid in the rally series is up! Do rally sim skills actually transfer to a real life rally car? I find out... ruclips.net/video/iKi7j2VfZKE/видео.html
It was a pleasure working with you mate! I can't wait to see your journey into Rallying, I promise it's a great one! If you have any questions, give us a shout. Hope to see you soon! Rally on!
Thanks Jack! Hope to see you back out there later this year 🍻
Alright, how many riders here are also rally fans? 🤔
Yes! This is the best. Following along for sure!
Used to do time attack, probably had the talent to go pro but $$$$ (also used to simrace at world championship level). Pretty much all but gave up track driving for mtb due to cost. Have not done rallying tho, my dad did a little back in the 80-90s !
Ya!!! The big white rally is sick you should go next year
used to watch WRC all the time and tape it on VHS, Subaru was my team, have had my Impreza for over 20 years now :P Also you got bonus points for Simagic !
Living in Finland...so it's in the blood 😂 you got this 💪
I know this is a long shot but if you're ever deep enough into this that you decide to visit Travis Pastrana's compound, "Pastranaland" here in Annapolis, MD- let me know and we can show you some real GOODS of Maryland's MTB scene.
I would highly recommend you get into 80 or 125cc kart racing.
Interesting. Why’s that?
@@TheLoamRanger karting is one of the best ways to learn how to get good at racing. Just about every pro driver starts in karts.
@TheLoamRanger @crawlingpanther is correct. Also,Karting is a perhaps the purest form of auto racing as it's quite basic at its core. Everyone's equipment is very similar, so you really gotta learn how to drive and through the kart around while keeping it precise. Its also easier on the wallet than cars. If you have a local club near you I'm sure you could set up some sort of rental and experience it. Pack racing can't be beat.
I raced ChumpCar, as well as NORBA, and the groups are very similar. Multiple hours of endurance motorsport will humble you quickly.
I believe it!
I also raced ChumpCar (prior to the name change to ChampCar) and LuckyDog. We raced 6 races in 2017, one being in Mexico (crazy). Anyone want to buy a '94 Jetta race car?
Nobody wants you to be the shuttledriver anymore...what great plan 😂
Talk about having two expensive hobbies. I'm in the same boat man. I have a 97 SN95 Mustang GT I've fixed up for track racing with the OnGrid track events. When I'm not out mountain biking with my friends we are at the track racing.
We'll never have to worry about having too much money 🙈
RIP Ken
Your analysis of steering input vs the instructor's is super helpful. I'm taking the 3 day course soon and am digesting all feedback like yours before going in. At any point did you feel like you needed to overlap both brake and gas to keep turbo spooled? I do this in ea wrc all the time and it seems to help.
That was fun to watch! Good luck on your journey.
Awesome vid! Can’t wait to see more of your journey.
Thanks so much! More to come.
@@TheLoamRanger awesome! I don’t have much dirt experience, have primarily raced formula ford overseas, but rally/rallycross always looks like a ton of fun, occasionally do some rallycross or mess around with the trophy trucks on iracing.
Great video Ryan! Awesome to see you doing something you’ve dreamed of. I too am a rally fan, and am excited to follow your journey. I hope to see you racing in the CRC!
Damn, you matched this time. You don't know how it proves your skill, you for sure simraced a lot
That's awesome dude. Good on you for following your dreams. Looking forward to following your progress!
You know im here for the ride, haha. Hopeully there will be a time in the future when im in another one of your videos and we are rallying together....crying over our broken cars and wallets. haha
I love rally! Just subscribed to the new channel.
Nice job!
Next time you’re in the PNW, I would love to go for a MTB ride with you.
Rally car will be the most fun you will Probably have. Its tons of fun. I believe you will get this in a year. Cant wait to see
Dude, you were just 12 miles from where I live! I hope you got some MTB riding in while you were here too.
Great video!!! DirtFish is the most fun you can have in a car, legally! 🙂
Haha thanks! 100% agreed
Awesome Ryan!
Subbed and looking forward to the journey.
This'll be interesting! Good on ya bud, I'm sure you'll have a lotta fun in this process, and you gotta just go for it :)
and obviously you need a Ferrari engined Subaru to start with 😁😁
Wait you traded one of your bikes for Ken blocks car? Where can I sign up?
Classic EA WRC experience, if you put your foot down on the straights, you make up for all the time lost in the technical parts.
@@benedux haha you’re not wrong.
If anyone else is considering stage rally, I very highly recommend trying rallycross first. Look for NASA or SCCA rallycross events, which is autocross on dirt, in your area. There aren’t many but it is the absolutely most fun can have driving a car
100% agreed. I definitely want to get out to one sooner than later. Just gotta get a car first 🙈
@@TheLoamRanger well maybe your video will motivate me to get back out there. I did those rallyX years ago in my 04 EvoRS, has 48k miles but its in middle of pricey restoration and I’m more thinking about selling it than using it for rally since it’s become a collectors car, torn on this I have to admit
Rally is about turing using brakes and throttle more than steering wheel. Very different than street driving. His steering inputs were smoother and slower but he was probably reacting to the road by microadjusting his feet way more though the corners to point the car. He is also more patient during corner entry and is on the brake a bit longer before getting back on gas. When you throttle too early, mid corner, it stops the car rotation then you start to understeer (in awd/fwd) and you do the familiar thing of adding more steering angle to correct. This is why his steering inputs are less and slower. He isn't making as many mid corner corrections. And it also calms everything down because he does not need to react as much. He is more patient waiting for the car to rotate. Slow is smooth smooth is fast.
Not sure if you are planning to race fwd, awd, or rwd but their rwd 3 day class really teaches you to feel that balance between the front and rear wheels. More so than the awd. Now that you've done some of the awd training, the rwd builds on that. You can brute force the awd a bit the awd will help power you out of bad technique but rwd rewards finesse a lot more.
Can't wait to see more of your videos!
100%. Jack definitely knows how to finesse that car.
I do hope to go back, but it will be tough to get me out of the AWD cars haha.
Thanks for the insights!
If Brandon Semenuk can go from red bull slopestyle athlete to Subaru factory rally driver, so can you!
love this video!!!
Brandon Seminuck made the same jump from mountain biking to Rally.
Im an adrenaline junkie and actually gave up mtn biking for racing. but that was after many years of breaking bones. and yes rally is awesome, if you get really into it. My friend is selling his podium 05 sti with race trailer, but its a whole other world in the turbo class, My whole family is onto rally!! also was able to co drive for 2 stages of Big white rally lol Great vid. just bought a 2010 sti for my 6 mile daily gravel driveway rip..
Vroom vroom
Please tell me that you'll still be making mountain biking videos!!!
Of course! This rally series is what I do with my “free time”. Plenty of Loam Ranger vids are on their way.
Did you bring a bike though? Tiger, Raging, Tokul and Duthie are all within 15 min Drive from Dirt Fish.
You did pretty good 🤜🤛
Awsome!
I don’t Care how good or Wild, expensive a rig you try, it will never get even close to going sideways on gravel irl. But, your face kind Of confirms it. Btw, almost every male driver Think they would be a good Racing driver, until shit get’s real 😅. Insane trip you are going on! 👍🏻
2.2k a day. Nah thanks, id rather buy a carbon frame on sale.
Been a huge motorsports fan including rally for years. Fell in love with Drifting years ago, so go for it and be prepared to LOSE a lot of money on this hobby....
When it comes to rally, I'm always wondering how the top north american drivers hold up against WRC drivers...
Nothing against Ken Block, but looking at his results, it didn't look great compared to the usual suspects in WRC at the time.
So, how would someone like Semenuk stack up against Ott Tänäk, Thierry Neuville, Sebastien Ogier and Kalle Rovanperä? I guess chances are pretty low that we actually will find out in a proper WRC event on same spec cars in the near future...
Most WRC drivers are on another level to be fair. But I believe the USA is aiming to get a WRC round in the near future, so that would give an opportunity to see them together and I think it would do good things for rallying's profile in that part of the world.
Im a big fan of Semenuk! I think he might do okay at WRC2 level, maybe even challenge for a Win in a rally possibly. But he is not WRC level. WRC is like the F1 of Rally, different league.
