Excited for this. I hope they highlight indigenous voices and expression how latinidad contributes to Indigenous and Afro-indigenous erasure. Yes it’s an ethnicity but ideas like “raza” stem from proximity to whiteness so I hope we are turning a new leaf and honoring those who came before us and after us.
Raza is not no way whiteness term. It’s a movement that came from fighting for equality rights in California for a lot of Mexicans and Latinos. Which in the past and now Mexicans have used it the “Raza” to identify the struggles of our people. Do some Mexican American history research. You can see the struggles and why we use “Raza”. It’s not to exclude no one or any other race. Que viva la raza ✊🏽🇲🇽
"Viva La Raza - Long Live the Race!" - Sounds like racisms or tribalism at best. Very telling how Google's "translate to English" doesn't translate it.
There is a certain confusion that I see represented in the words of Lenguizano who tries to equate the word "Latino" with the words "native indigenous" in Latin America. While natives of Latin America are indeed Latinos, the word comprises a lot more than just the original inhabitants of the Americas. Latinos include all Afro-Caribbeans, Asian and European descendants. In fact, there are many Japanese and Chinese Latinos in Brazil and Peru who don't speak a lick of their predecessors languages - they are more Latinos than many others who live in the USA, have Latino ancestry, but don't even speak the languages of Latin America. Lenguizano places his focus on the Native Indigenous people of Latin America - which are Latinos or Latin Americans. But I am afraid he misses the mark in defining Latinos as just them - the original inhabitants of Latin America.
Hispanic refers to a person with ancestry from a country whose primary language is Spanish. Latino and its variations refer to a person with origins from anywhere in Latin America (Mexico, South and Central America) and the Caribbean.Sep 8, 2022
You mean indigenous? Just bc our blood was diluted due to colonialism and/or slavery doesn't mean we did not stem from indigenous people. We are indigenous. Those other terms were created to divide and conquer us. In the end none of these labels matter.
@@ElenaM4 no you didn't black Americans built this country and white Americans helped too but Mexicans aren't needed here and never were. You're just trying to stand around and take blacks talking points
I really wanted to like this. But it’s a childish version of history. The series started off immediately with the same old tired and historically inaccurate theme. European conquerors destroy peace loving natives. Native people warred with each other, enslaved and killed each other. Empires like Mexica routinely conquered their neighbors. Demanding tribute in goods and slaves. Cortez conquered Tenochtitlan with native allies tired of Mexica rule. They read a passage by Bartolome de las Casas but then conveniently decided not to mention that he was advocating for native people. Many of the Codices we have, recoding the history of the Mexica, were made by native people at the request of European Jesuits in churches and monasteries.! We need to own and be proud of all of our ancestors. Native, European and African.
He forgets the Mexico's/ Chicanos! There's a difference! It shouldve been a documentary about Latinos and Mexicano. He never the Mexicans no credit! Latinos get all the credit! They need to fix that mixup and redo the documentry
That was beautiful so proud to be a 🇲🇽
Very in-depth, I enjoyed the insights as a non Latino.

Don't beat up the people that surround our borders because if we are a safe country it's because they've helped keep us safe.

All three episodes, highlights, Mexico, and Mexican descent, more than any other groups. Shut up and sit down and enjoy his work.
Stop trying to cause division with our people.
Im not Latino. Im first Native American/ Indigenous
