When the violin came in at 28:30, my heart broke and I immediately thought of this quote from the book: "Poor, unhappy Erik [the Phantom]! He had a heart that could have held the empire of the world, but in the end, he had to content himself with a cellar."
+MJR Taurus Indeed. :( I for one do. To me, "Phantom" is a cautionary tale about a child who grows up to inherit the role of the monster people first assumed he'd be. And, while I love a lot of the films and the musical, there hasn't really been a version that captures that, in my opinion; everyone treats it either as a love triangle story or, worse yet, a straight-up horror tale, playing off of Erik's deformity, which totally misses the point of things.
+TheaterRaven Thank you, how nice to meet someone who can look deeply and sees the things at the right side. I can't agree with everyone who writers about Erik only: monster, stalker, murderer, psycho, obsessive man and others. Just thinking like a mob. Any kind word? Try to live like he must have to live and then try to say something about it. If people want to see someone worse , it's hard to believe that is not the truth. Erik deserves to get love , happiness and acceptance. Like many others.
So relieved to see someone else sees this story differently than most have. But I don't see him as a monster at all. I see a man who's too passionate for this world. A man who's been judged not by his heart but by his appearance.
My wife and i got married to all i ask of you (this version). In the catacombs of a brewery that was entirely candle light. Every time i hear this i think of that beautiful day.
I know these are not entirely accurate since the entire album consists of multiple segues, but this is the best I can do: 0:00 - Overture 3:15 - I Remember 4:34 - Think of Me 8:26 - Angel of Music 9:29 - Notes 11:15 - Stranger than You Dreamt It 12:45 - Raoul, I've Been There 15:18 - All I Ask of You 19:05 - Chandelier Crash 19:36 - Masquerade 20:08 - Don Juan 20:29 - Why So Silent? 22:00 - Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again 24:14 - No One Would Listen 24:59 - The Point of No Return 26:28 - Final Lair 26:42 - The Point of No Return (Reprise) 28:31 - All I Ask of You (Phantom's Reprise) 29:44 - The Music of the Night (Flashback) 31:39 - The Music of the Night (Phantom's Reprise) 32:44 - Finale
After eight years of being a phan, I didn't think I could love the music anymore than I already do. Guess I was wrong...this is so freaking beautiful and amazing!
I'm writing an essay on the Phantom novel and this piece is keeping me motivated the whole while through. It's absolutely gorgeous and keeps me in the zone so well. Genius
This has been my homework music for 7 years. It's a perfect amount of time for me to be able to concentrate and get up for a short break when it's over. Because it's always this medley my brain hears it and knows it's time to focus...unfortunately I can't watch Phantom anymore without my brain trying to do something terrible like math
Same. I have been returning to this for years for homework because it makes something unbearable like homework, bareable. Though sometimes it’s distracting when the words or the images come to mind.
That moment right at 20:30 that's the bit from when he crashes the masquerade in the Red Death costume is the most horrifying and sinister rendition of that part I've ever heard. So good.
@@juanmanuelhernandezalvarez533 Both. It's a deleted song called 'no one would listen' that the phantom was gonna sing, and then the used it for the credits with different lyrics, and that version is called 'learn to be lonely'
14:51-15:20 "Yet in his eyes all the sadness of the world. Those pleading eyes that both threatened and adored." Gosh! I'm so moved by these few seconds, wish it could be longer.
27:00 - 28:11 Okay, please tell me I'm not the only one who loved this part. The final lair always gives me chills. (Even the actual song with them singing was powerful!)
I've been reading all of these comments about how beautiful 28:00 was, but I didn't expect how emotional and breathtaking it would be. I honestly thought it would just be another part of the arrangement, but I actually just started crying out of nowhere. Maybe it's because it reminded me of growing up around the musical, but it was the biggest and most painful wave of nostalgia I have ever experienced. I don't know how I feel right now.
This is the only music that can make my heart soar to unreachable heights!!! Other classical music is beautiful... but this... this is magnificently stunning!!!!!!
This is actually the most beautiful piece of art I have ever heard in my life. It is so godamn beautiful, being a phantom fan, this melts my soul. Wow spectacular job, it's gorgeous.
As a Phantom aficionado, as well as a musician, this is heavenly. The sheer intricacies of the arrangement make the score even more powerful than it was!
Omg i never knew a musical for POTO existed, yet good gracious i was blessed with ALW's generous soul last week! Although i'm lowkey upset many aspects of the rendition was flawed or incomplete, it's pretty amazing to see how musicals can incorporate both plot and sentimental dialogue so conveniently. Hats down! The musical deserves mpre than just praise! Overall, the music and acting was the best and both were able to translate the atmosphere of each scene of the story. Never have i ever been so immersed by such a profound melody, and never was any 21st century film able to capture the intricacy of the intellectual dialogue and expression of 19th century classical stories, of which is prominently the fashion of their climax. It's proved futile so far of any cinematic film adoptions to incorporate the dramaticism of 19th century classics without unnecessarily having to abbreviate their significance of speech for the sake of a fast-pace narrative; that would, essentially, obliterate the moral of the story.
Aspen Wakefield LOL I was here thinking of Akiko and Yuzu and... Golly, sooooo many. But it's damn-fine skating music. Gracie's Phantom program didn't work for me though :-/ I think she recently tweeted that it was her least favorite of all her competitive programs
Aspen Wakefield At the climax of Akiko's 2013-14 FS, when she throws her arm up mid-spiral to emphasize the music... God she had such amazing interpretation and was so underrated.
Wonderful, delicate, magical... The arrangements and melodies are perfect. I was very young when I knew the original piece, and I got hypnotized by. I was transported to a magical melancholic romantic fantastic world! Then, listening to this... what a beautiful and lovely version. I love you Lloyd-Webber family for giving us such a gift!
today I started reading the book while listening to this soundtrack. I got 2 chapters in but the video was about to end but I think I will start listening to this while reading the book. I even had a few minutes left to spare and im so lucky because the ending is beautiful
The point-counterpoint of the two instruments is fascinating, and easily conjures images of the characters' performances. I first saw Phantom with a woman with whom I was very much in love. That love, and the Phantom's love for Christine were indistinguishable, and Lloyd Webber's music is, more that 25 years later a revisiting of the agony, and ecstasy of such love.
my dad says he used to play phantom of the opera through headphone against my mothers stomache while she was pregnant with me, and also that as I grew up I would conk right out with PoTO playing usually within like 5 minutes almost like clockwork XD
All I Ask of you is so beautiful and it's supposed to be a enjoyed as a love song, but it HURTS so much!! :( It only makes me think about the phantom's broken heart.
Had a chance to listen to this live at the Singapore Esplanade Theatre last week. Absolutely stunning. I'm not sure if I can watch the play again with the synthesized music.
Agreed, I definitely love both. I feel like this version makes me fall in love with phantom music again, but that doesn't mean I don't like the musical... It is so wonderful...
Considering adding this to my Halloween playlist, because I LOVE Phantom music. I would love to see it on stage at least once in my life. If anyone is interested, I know of a couple of wicked talented fan-artists who have put together, in my opinion, phenomenal takes on some of the more iconic songs. And no, they aren't Sarah Brightman or any other big name, but I dare say that their love for their craft puts them as close contenders if nothing else.
So I was in choir til last year and dropped out cuz a kid who was standing in front of me said "omg that person behind me sang so bad!" I can't read notes also. Well today my music teacher came up to me and she was like "Hey, would you want to come back to choir?" **Angel of Music intensifies**

True! Except every so often I have to stop because my eyes well up with tears and my arms get all goosebumpy
Yeah, this is better for homework than the real version because there is no music
I still listen at least once a month to all the various arrangements and this version is ASTOUNDING.

the "no one would listen" part with the violin solo at 24:12 was so beautiful, it brought me to tears!
It really reminds me of the book and Christine's character. I love this.
It really warmed my heart~ ♡♡
