Hi, I followed your instructions as you stated, I also replayed your video several times to make sure that I was doing it right and everything worked out as you instructed thank you for help. I've also subscribed to your channel, thank you again.
@@KennySanchez68 Hi - thanks for taking the time to leave a kind comment. Really pleased this might rescue your Google account. Thanks again, appreciate it.
Good plan Neil, but with one small catch! When you set up a new account and tell it to backup your photos, it will backup ALL the photos that are stored on your phone, not just the most recent year, which could mean several year's worth, so you'll be in the same position you were when you started. If you want an account for each year, for example, you'd need to make sure your phone ONLY had this year's photos on it. Then you'd need to delete them all from your phone before starting a new account for the next year. Also beware some services sync rather than backup, which means when you delete on your phone, it deletes them online too. The moral being to always backup photos onto a separate physical drive somewhere before doing anything clever!
@@stevo19911991 Hi Stevo thanks for the kind question. I say yes, but there is a risk that the photo will reupload or resync if the backup is turned back on. If it were me - and I'm' sure you've considered this: I'd test it with some photos that you know have been backed up onto your Mac to be sure that deleting on Google Photos doesn't delete pictures on your phone. Good luck!
So I'm an amateur videographer. Each time I do an event, I would upload the footage to my Google Drive and then share it with the client. However this wasn't working out so good because the files would be eating up my storage. And after leaving the footage on my Drive for over a month I delete it and very next day the client wants to know where it went. So, I came up with a new system. Each time I do an event, I make a new Google account (sometimes two) based on the name of the event or the client, and upload the footage to that Drive. I then share the username and password with the client giving them full control of the account to do what they want with. Now the footage is not taking up my space nor the client's space and can stay there for eternity (or until Google decides to remove unused accounts etc...) I think it's a pretty smart idea.
Thanks for the kind message and suggestion, really appreciate it. If it were me, I might probably use RUclips to upload to which has no limits and is easy to share... but appreciate that clients might be worried that it seems so public, even if it were set to unlisted or private, and also they would want the actual file to download. Thanks again.
@@neilmossey also, many times in sending completely unedited footage, which would mean needing to send a number of links as my camera saves a file every half hour. Also, sometimes I need to send pictures as well, which wouldn't really work with YT.

Thanks for the kind message - my other videos in the description show how to set up another account just for your pictures to partner share back to your original account without taking up space. Good luck with your storage
@Neil..I have been trying for the past year to fix the storage issue but no one on RUclips has provided a step by step instruction better than you.. You are awesome, thank you
Buddy don't do this, you can land in big trouble. Say you create multiple accounts (for storage instance). Google knows everything, they know (with ip address, cache and spying) that how many accounts you have. You cant hide from them (since they themselves are spyware, rootkit in android). If they ban one of your account, you become ineligible for some Google services with rest of your accounts as well (sadly very harsh). Like for example if one of your google account is banned, you create android developer id (kind of Google service, services may differ) with another Google account. Even after paying, your Google service will be void for violating Google policies. Ban on one account can effect your every other account, and that is worst part of Google baba knowing everything.
& this is not a imaginery thing, many google accounts have been banned for violating google policies. Unfortunately there is no way to contact google making things worse. If your one google account gets banned, your every other google account is effected. & you are ineligible for any Google service unless u change your IP adress completely. Thats is Sad and Worst part!!
@@animalrecapped I transferred my photos from my old Google account to my new one and they say they don't take up space, even if I deleted the photo off the old account and my device the photo is still on my new account even tho it doesn't take up space, so contacted Google 3 months ago, and today they said thats normal and its good and i won't have any issues. My question is why don't they take up space?
Thanks Neil, My Google storage was maxed out. I followed your suggestion of uploading my 10 years plus of photos and videos in the compressed format, and it went down by HALF!. I have now added at least a couple of years to my 15G of Google storage. Can't thank you enough. I'm telling my friends about this. Thanks again!
@@elixier33 exactly. do you know louis rossman? he talked about a dad who sent photos of his naked son to a doctor and then google flagged him as a criminal and deleted his whole account, which had a massive domino effect. he couldn't do anything to restore it.
Please tell me once I've created another Google account and backed up my 8gb+ photos and videos onto that can I now go back to google photos of my older Gmail account and delete them there so that I free up 8gb worth of space for emails there? Will the photos still be safe on my new Google account?
If I can buy for some price +5 or +10 Gb of storage for all my life I would do so. But I do not want to buy subscription for years for my photos or stupid videos.
Keep creating google accounts and you’ll get 15gb of storage with every account and one day google will ban all of your accounts due to violating it’s policies 👍

Very educative, thanks. I have a question; after connecting Account 2 (new) to my google photo app on my phone and switching back up on, it started backing up my old pictures on my phone which is already backed up in my account 1 (old ). How can I set back up date to start from the day I link account 2 (new) to my google app on my phone ? Or how can I stop account 2 (new) from backing up my old photos on my phone gallery ?
Neil - very helpful video as my wife has been dealing with a space issue on her account for months now, and we are too thrifty to buy additional storage. I went to her Google Photos and chose to compress her existing photos as suggested. The process is still running, but has already saved .5 GB. Something else interesting happened. When her account was nearly full, Google was keen to offer addition storage (I think 100 GB) for $1.99 per month. The moment that I hit the compress button, the offer changed to a "Special" of $.49 per month for the same amount of storage. Google knows that there is a link between demand and price, I guess.
OHHHH thanks for that update @dbknox - Very funny that the offer changed!!! Hope it does the job, and hope it helps to create a brand new account just for the photos to keep the account operational. Not thrifty... I'd say wise! Good luck and thanks again for the kind message!
That $0.49 per month is for the first year, then it goes to $11.99 a month Always avoid any kind of monthly payment if you can, its not always possible, but the more you avoid it the more disposable income you will have. Strive to be debt free, its a wonderful thing
Thank you Neil, this was fantastic! I have been struggling trying to keep below the limit and this made a big difference. Really appreciate you taking the time to put this video and instructions together! Next up is trying to figure out how to reduce the size of my Gmail while still having access to the emails offline!
Thanks Neil from a lawyer who fights for consumers , small business, and constitutional rights for people . My first review online it's truly unfortunate that a company that got millions of Americans with what we were told was free. Then that company sells our information at our expense ...No more I urge everyone to pass this information on and on. Big thanks
Neil YOU ARE A GENIUS!!! And from now on also my hero. I asked so many people for help dealing with my "out of storage" situation and no one had the solution. Thank you so much!
So, here I go! I’ve spent a week deleting almost 10 years of photos because my email is being held hostage. I am excited to see if this works and be able to get my email back! Very excited, will keep you updated! Thank you.
Excellent advice. I have this setting enabled since forever on my Google photos. The quality is almost the same wjen viewing on my phone. I can't even remember how I discovered this option. Probably when I first got the message that my account was full. I also can't remember how many friends I've helped with the exact same issue. Glad there is a simple video for people to follow and enjoy unlimited space!!!
I've mustered my courage to follow these steps and resolved this perpetual darn storage limit anxiety once and for all. This is gold, thank you Neil. With my years of photos safely stored in the old google account, I set my new account for photos 2024 onwards. To save the new account from duplicating all photos, I transferred them all out of my phone into an external storage disk, leaving only 2024 photos in there - this is done before changing backup setting to the new account in google photo on the phone. I can now toggle between 2 accounts in google photo to see the old and new. Best things ever and I hope more can benefit from your video...Thank you!
Be aware that google will delete your data if you no longer use their services for 2 years. And also there is high chance that you are backing up the same photos twice or more. So should be careful.
Hi Neil, I came across your channel by chance, then I liked what I saw, and then, as a natural consequence, I subscribed to your channel. This is an interesting alternative to get more space in Photos and I had thought about it before. I have a couple of questions on this method. 1) Once I log into my new Google account in my mobile phone, will I be able to get my messages from my regular Gmail account? As far as I know, you can only have one Google account active at a time. 2) If I share the new account with my older account, I will be able to watch my photos and videos from my new account in my old account, but how do I watch the photos stored in my old account? Won't I need to log in to my old account to access those photos? 3) Many of the photos in my mobile phone are going to get duplicated in my new account (since they were already backed up in my old account), how to resolve this issue? I hope I am not asking too many questions.😊 Thanks and regards in advance. Good day to you.
As a professional photographer, I prefer shooting in raw and so do I like to save some of my important files even after editing them already. Wouldn't compressing the files not also ruin the RAW pictures? That's why I prefer original. Thanks
Thanks for the kind question AWA Ereck - absolutely - but the comments I've been receiving question if Google Photos is the right place for them to store those RAW images, given we have no idea what Google will be charging 3 months from now, let alone 3 years and the amount of storage needed will only go up too... Some even like Google Photos for its search to look up original photos at high res stored locally or on external drive... This video is just here to help people recover their Google Account if they don't want to go into that long term paid relationship with no exit strategy. If you like storing on Original, that's awesome. Thanks again
I could definitely see this working, however, make sure you have removed the old photos from your phone to exterior storage, or it will keep backing up All the photos.
The sound effects on this video were unbearable for me. I had to turn on the captions and lower the volume to the slightest whisper. A summary for those of us that cannot stand the big arrows and constant dings: Just create another google account when you run out of storage and "partner share" all the photos to your primary google account. Also don't forget to use storage saver! Thank you Neil! This video was helpful and I understand why you have the loud sounds and arrows but I still don't enjoy it lol.
@@rahsaanb8749 Thanks for the kind comment. I thought that too after I had uploaded it, unfortunately. Then it went on to get 900000 views, so what do I know!
Thanks, Neil, My Google storage was maxed out. I followed your suggestions. I'm back to normal. Can't thank you enough. I'm telling my friends about this. You are a star....Thanks again!
04:15 Actually, the whole idea in using google storage solutions is to keep them in a safe place in case the phone breaks down or gets lost or stolen. Also, the space on the phone may also fill up. So, no, do not rely on that the photos and videos that are on your phone are safe.
Yep this really works, I went from full to below 4Gb and didn't have to use the final part of the video. Brilliant video very easy to follow instructions.
I’m going to try this later on. I used to reduce the quality and it would work for a bit. Suddenly I couldn’t find that option any longer. Thanks for these tips.
Thanks for the kind message Emeraldsroses, really hope this helps. Bizarrely Google removed this option from the phone app but leave it on the desktop site. Good luck with fixing your account.
This is something I have beenn looking for for ages. The problem being, you were so quick I had trouble following you. I'll have to run this on my laptop, and follow you on my PC. EDIT: I had my PC running for a long time with the message saying "This could take several hours." So I did a reboot. I now have over 10gig of storage left. Thanks for the video Neil, much apprciated
Thank you!!! I have a question though... Have you ever tried to print anything from the drive using the reduced size/quality? Especially at a bigger size. I wonder how much it affects the photo.
I have - it's been good enough for a 4x6 but I always back up to hard drive, use google photos to find the photos in search and rely on the Original file from the backup. If you're using Google's print service, I think it goes to the Original size and, bizarrely, when you share the storage saver photos with another account, using Partner sharing (link in description!) - the shared photo appears in the shared account as original size! Same when you download using Google Takeout. Hope this helps.
Too true - this is very fiddly, I've made a video just about recovering the account only using only a phone but it sounds like you might be aiming foe an external drive - good luck!
Thanks SO MUCH, this is great. Question - if I've now synched all the photos with this new email account I've just created, meaning they're backed up... can I now delete them permanently from my personal email account? They should still be saved on the new email, right, and won't be lost therefore?
Hi thanks for the kind comment and question. Yes... but... couple of things to consider for safety. 1 I would back up the photos to a hard drive or laptop, or desktop or memory stick (or all of those) so that I have a safety copy just in case. 2 I would back up the personal email account photos by partner sharing to a new account - because all those photos will not count towards the storage allowance/limit, so you'll still have 15GB free on the new account. If you can be bothered to do this -- I'm just about to do it for my wife's phone and it's a hassle, but it might be worth it... I made this video here: ruclips.net/video/hjMCcod6mCM/видео.html Good luck and thanks again, I appreciate it.
One thing that you need to consider is that Google are now saying that if there is no activity for 2 years the account will be deleted along with all the photographs. I always have a backup of my photographs on hard disk in full resolution. I was also lucky enough to have all my photographs converted to low resolution when Google started to limit the free space. Those photographs do not count against my limit. I just compressed my newer files to space saver and that has helped my storage. I like the idea of setting up additional google accounts to get more storage, but, I am not sure how it will work when I take a photograph I will need to be logged into the new account, but when I want to read emails or look at other stuff on my google drive I will need to be in the old account. Is this the case?
Thanks for the kind comment Andrew, this is a very good point - as well as not forgetting the passwords! The Partner sharing from a single 'photos' account works like a dream for me. All I do is have the Google Photos app set to backup/sync to that photos account, and they are shared to my personal account - at original quality!!! (Even though the photos account is on storage saver) And they do not take up storage quota on my personal account. Which means I can still search through everything on my main personal account. When I delete them from the photos account, they remain stored in the shared-to personal account. They even remain in place if I break the partner sharing relationship. (I test it frequently to make sure it still works!) Make sure that 'auto save' is enabled with the partner sharing for this to work. I'm sure you dont need or want to watch another video, but I try to explain it here: ruclips.net/video/hjMCcod6mCM/видео.html Good luck and thanks again for the great message.
Thanks Pete, I know that feeling! You have no need to watch another video, but if you're curious about using Partner Sharing with yourself to stay under 15GB, there's a new video here... ruclips.net/video/hjMCcod6mCM/видео.html Thanks again for the kind comment, really appreciate it.
Thank you!! Thank you!! Thank you!! Thank you!! Thank you!! Thank you!! I've been so stressed about what to do about freeing up storage due to all my photos. All of the "out of storage" emails were driving me nuts and I didn't know what to do. Yours is the first video I clicked on and I know I do not need to look any further for help! Thank you!! Thank you!!
That's so great to hear - thanks for the very kind comment. The playlist in the description has some ideas for staying under the limit permanently if you can face it (I can't face it!) Good luck with your storage and thanks again, I appreciate it!
As years go by and you have 4 family members making photos on phones and camera, the question to the IT guy (dad) is : how to ensure that we have a shared location that is in sync and where photos that are already these are not duplicated and how we do we ensure there is a backup and how can we remove pictures that are already centralized. If you a (e.g.Synology) NAS you can assign each family member a folder (via drive). Then turn on Cloud Sync and sync google drive, onedrive and other locations centrally e.g.each sunday. Then run a de-duplication script to move duplicates to a duplicates folder. In that way you have e.g. 2015-12-23_Xmas as the folder for all photos of that day from all sources. You can then backup from the location to any backup location and your costs are equally to a hard disk cost e.g. 12 Tb for 100 euro for around 5 years limetime average for a disk. All photos synced can be removed each week since centralized.
Hi Neil, Thanks for your great helpful sharing. I have a query wanted a confirmation from you. After setting up 2nd account, and have already partner sharing between both 1st and 2nd account. Do I need to delete all the photos and videos in my phone device before I on the back up button on my 2nd account? Thanks.
This fix appears to only work IF all your photos are actually stored on your phone. If you have deleted some along the way, is there an option move some from your original google account over to the new "yearly" storage account? Being able to move photos from one google account to another would make managing this much easier. Thanks for your ideas, I just need to work on them a little more for my own circumstance - actually work on them for my wife's phone which is the one in the family that tends to max out the storage with photos and especially videos.
The compressed photos should look fine on a mobile, but in print or on a large screen they may look a little blurry, so you still have to backup photos that you might want to view in a large format one day.
@@neilmosseyWould a thumb drive do the job? I don't want to compress because I take photos of tiny detailed organisms ( such as spiders) for the teaching I do.
This is really helpful thank you so so much. You reminded me of things I'd discovered a while ago but didnt take too much notice of (and now desperately need to do something about my storage) - and you've included in this video everything that i need to do. Brilliant. Just one thing - (not too bad in this video), but in others, the sound effects are sooooo annoying that its very off-putting and may even be a reason I can't watch any more. This is such a shame because the content is really useful. It also makes a nice change to hear a fellow Brit rather than an American voice (which I like, but still, nice to hear an English accent)!!
The ad that came up at the end of your video was for Google cloud space! 😂😂 The cheek of it! By the time I clicked on the subscription button to your channel the screen had changed to a service I won't ever need, tha ks to you!
Thank you so much Neil. I’m currently compressing my photos and that’s awesome. Do you have any video about compressing files on google drive? I used to upload my photos and videos on google drive on one of my google accounts and now I have maxed it out? Please how do i compress files on Google drive?
Thanks so much! Finally some tech advice that works! I did find that in order to change the Google Photos backup account on Apple devices (phone & tablet), I had to uninstall the app and then reinstall under the new photos account. Thanks again!
After I got rid of 8gb google doc files I found out that I had permanently deleted the major file i use daily. I contacted google support and within 15 min, all the permanently deleted files were restored. did it via chat. this happened maybe a year or so ago and my office person had to contact them. this time i did it. the important thing is do not delay a single second!! at a certain point, even they can't help you. do not panic; just contact them.
Thanks Neil for figuring out this way to regain back the space in google storage! you have saved us from deleting our precious photos and also the unnecessary google storage subscription. Sharing this video with my friends so that it helps them.
Thanks for the video . Do u maybe have some ideas to distribute photos between several google accounts as it will automatically try to to upload all the photos i have
Nice video! But I couldn't find the option to convert the existing photos and videos to compressed form. The UI seems to have changed since you made this video. Would really appreciate if you could help find the option if it still exists. Thanks! Edit: Found the option in google photos settings.
Wouldn’t this multiple account solution need deleting old photos first? If so is shared partner copy stored locally on the device without quality loss? What happens when google server that stores that part of photos malfunction, do you have your photos lost or are they stored on your phone at original (or that slightly compressed, if chosen) quality?
Hi @weberito Thanks for the kind question. I find it useful to backup my phone to a hard drive, for safety. Then clearing my phone so the same photos do not fill the new accoount. The shared partner photos, bizarrely, are shared and stored at Original quality even if the original sharing account is on 'storage saver'. I'm sure you don't want or need to see another video, but I go through the steps in more detail here: ruclips.net/video/hjMCcod6mCM/видео.html And if Auto Save is enabled in Partner sharing - when the pictures are deleted on the 'photos account', they remain in the shared account... at original quality... and do not take up storage quota(!) Hope this helps.
Yeah but that $2 ends up being $24 for the year and then $48 a year after that and it will keep growing the longer you want to keep it, which is exactly what google wants...the best thing to do is to get an ssd and dump all your photos and videos onto that. They're fairly cheap nowadays, and you can link it to a cloud to have access everywhere you go....however, creating a new google account just for pictures and videos is a good free option.
I'm usually bad at directions, but yours was easy to follow. Thanks, this really helped, as I don't have much money and Xiaomi phones upgraded their firmware and won't let me connect to my PC via USB anymore so this was life-saving.
I've found a way to back up all my photos that take up zero storage... I get the pictures that I truly care about printed and keep them in a photo album that will last generations 🤓 it's amazing how people care so much about pictures but don't care enough about them to actually make them real😂
Thank you for sharing these ideas. I was always wondering why my storage in Google was getting full almost overnight despite me having bought a phone which has almost 10 x of storage space more than I actually need. I do not need to save / back up my photos on google
I've been thinking of doing this for a long time, but I always had in mind. Is there a way to migrate all my current backed up photos to the new "photo" gmail? I want to remove all images from my current gmail, google drive and such and keep photos for it's own email.
Hi Neil thanks for your helpful video. A question: is there a difference between personal use and the one for work or my business account? if I create the new account choosing the personal use option does it affect the process of saving pics within the new account? thanks a lot
Hi Francesca Thanks for the very kind comment and question I've found no difference whatsoever between choosing one for 'personal' or 'business'. I think it seems to only affect how google collects data for advertising etc. - the accounts seem to operate in an identical way. Hope this helps
What a great video - I love the album a year idea :) Is there any way/setting to only back up photos taken this year other than all of my photo backing up to my newly created account?
The issue is that when you create a new account and turn on backup, it starts backing up all the photos on your phone, including those already backed up to another account. As a result, you quickly receive a notification that there is no space left. Is there an option to back up only recent photos instead of everything? If not, this feature is not useful to me.
Thanks for your video Neil, very clear information. Just wondering how to download everything of mine, that has been stored on Google, in the first place so that I can keep it Thanks again for your tips, most appreciated.
Hi Finnleigh - thanks for the kind question, I am so sorry I have not found a fix for downsizing attachments and pdfs etc. I use the Google Drive storage dashboard to at least find the largest attachments to then delete from there. Good luck with your Google storage and hope you find a workaround
Great video and thanks. I have a couple questions about sharing across multiple accounts. If you have multiple accounts across the years shared with your main account, what about things like tagging faces? I use that all the time to find photos of my family and friends. Does it only draw from the main account or can it find the faces by name from the shared accounts? Similarly, can you create an album that includes the photos from the shared Google Photos accounts? E.g. Currently I have a photo album with over 7K of photos that I use as the source for a photo frame app on my kitchen counter. If I were to start creating other accounts, can I still add photos from the shared accounts into my "Photo Frame" album in the primary account?
Hi Chuck Thanks for the kind questions. Hope these answers help: You can only partner share with one account at a time, so I now only use one partner sharing account. I turn on auto save, and the pictures are copied to the 'main' account at original quality even if the 'photos' account is set to storage saver. The 'main' account will spot the faces - or seems to for mine. I think you can create an album just for the shared photos: in desktop, there is a 'sharing' tab, and the partner sharing is in there. Enter the right partner sharing section, then select the photos you want to add to album. Click on the 'share' icon and create a link. When you open that link, it automatically creates an album for it and you can save that album to your library. I would only use one shared account now, with auto save, you can delete pictures and videos from the 'photos account' and they remain saved in your 'main' account. I made a video about that here: ruclips.net/video/hjMCcod6mCM/видео.html Hope something here works for you and good luck with your storage!
My iPhone 15 pro max does not offer a Recover Storage window option. But it does at the bottom of the manage storage screen it does say Learn about storage. When you click it there’s is nothing offering recover storage. So do you have any ideas on what to do at this point?
Thank you for the kind question Sanyo - yes the Google Photos app is cruel and doesn't offer the option - we can only see it on the photos.google.com site. So we can either go there on the browser in our phone or use a laptop or tablet to go to that site. Hope this helps and good luck with your storage

IF GOOGLE PHOTOS SAYS "BACKING UP TO ANOTHER ACCOUNT"...
To change the account it backs up to...
Click on your avatar on the top right hand corner
This brings up a full screen menu
Scroll down to Photos settings, click on it
On 'backup' at the top of this menu, click on backup
Where it says the account it's backing up to (your old account?), click on the name
This should bring up a list of accounts you can choose - choose the new account here.
If the new account isn't showing here,
Click on the avatar on the top right hand corner on the home screen of Google Photos
This brings up a full screen menu, click on your account name at the top (which has a triangle in a circle next to it)
Scroll down to 'add another account'
sign in to your new account
This new account should be in the pull down in the first paragraph above
Hope this makes sense or helps
Let me know if it does or doesnt work
Good luck!

What if you have no photos and the biggest file is in Document?
Hi Neil .. my google photos compressing takes 24 hours & still not showing any result .. & have restarted twice but still the same
Hi, I followed your instructions as you stated, I also replayed your video several times to make sure that I was doing it right and everything worked out as you instructed thank you for help.
Wise words Gordon!
Big thanks!
you can choose the folders you want to back up
use different folders for the photos that aren't backed up plz

Is it also ok and easy to mass delete all photos from google without damaging photos on my iPhone?
I back up on my Mac already.
Thanks for advise

16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. 17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. 18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. 19 And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. 20 For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved. 21 But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.

Excellent advice. I have this setting enabled since forever on my Google photos. The quality is almost the same wjen viewing on my phone. I can't even remember how I discovered this option. Probably when I first got the message that my account was full. I also can't remember how many friends I've helped with the exact same issue.
I hope I am not asking too many questions.😊
Thanks and regards in advance.

04:15 Actually, the whole idea in using google storage solutions is to keep them in a safe place in case the phone breaks down or gets lost or stolen. Also, the space on the phone may also fill up. So, no, do not rely on that the photos and videos that are on your phone are safe.

This is something I have beenn looking for for ages. The problem being, you were so quick I had trouble following you. I'll have to run this on my laptop, and follow you on my PC.
EDIT: I had my PC running for a long time with the message saying "This could take several hours."
So I did a reboot.

I made this video here:
ruclips.net/video/hjMCcod6mCM/видео.html
Good luck and thanks again, I appreciate it.
(Even though the photos account is on storage saver)
And they do not take up storage quota on my personal account.
Which means I can still search through everything on my main personal account.
When I delete them from the photos account, they remain stored in the shared-to personal account.
They even remain in place if I break the partner sharing relationship.
(I test it frequently to make sure it still works!)
Make sure that 'auto save' is enabled with the partner sharing for this to work.
I'm sure you dont need or want to watch another video, but I try to explain it here:
ruclips.net/video/hjMCcod6mCM/видео.html

That's great thanks - the dream!
And I'll do that as soon as I've fixed the 3 cracked phone screens of my family members

That's extremely helpful to know, thanks for the kind comment Harold!
Thanks Neil for figuring out this way to regain back the space in google storage! you have saved us from deleting our precious photos and also the unnecessary google storage subscription. Sharing this video with my friends so that it helps them.
Thanks for the video . Do u maybe have some ideas to distribute photos between several google accounts as it will automatically try to to upload all the photos i have
Holy moly this is such a life-saver! Thank you a ton!
Thanks for taking the time to leave this very kind message - really pleased that it might help.
@@neilmossey You're so kind to find them to even reply to each of the zillion comments Neil....Wow, God bless you.
Your joy , knowledge, your findings.. sharing all those tips are useful and of assistance.
Thanks for the very kind message Adriana, really appreciate it. Good luck with your storage!
Nice video! But I couldn't find the option to convert the existing photos and videos to compressed form. The UI seems to have changed since you made this video. Would really appreciate if you could help find the option if it still exists. Thanks!
Edit: Found the option in google photos settings.
Ah, thanks for the kind question Dominik and the update - hope it's working okay for you.
I have the same problem. I am out of storage space and I don't see a backup and sync option. HELP.
Hi @weberito
Thanks for the kind question.
I find it useful to backup my phone to a hard drive, for safety. Then clearing my phone so the same photos do not fill the new accoount.
The shared partner photos, bizarrely, are shared and stored at Original quality even if the original sharing account is on 'storage saver'.
I'm sure you don't want or need to see another video, but I go through the steps in more detail here:
ruclips.net/video/hjMCcod6mCM/видео.html
And if Auto Save is enabled in Partner sharing - when the pictures are deleted on the 'photos account', they remain in the shared account... at original quality... and do not take up storage quota(!)
Hope this helps.
Many thanks Neil. I was struggling how to free up my google accounts for several months and I just compressed all photos and it worked very well.
too much sound effects to the point that its getting annoying.
True, can't focus on the words.
I've already purchased the 100 GB plan, and it rocks. But anyway, this is a smart idea for those who do not want to rent a google one. Thank you Neil.
Thanks for the kind comment Anas, really appreciate it!
Google One is the way to go for me, too.
Good video and tips, but the cost of a 100 GB Google Drive is only $1.99 a month or $9.99 a month for 2 Terabytes.
Neil - Very Clever! That was a nice piece of creative thinking. Thanks for sharing!
I'm usually bad at directions, but yours was easy to follow. Thanks, this really helped, as I don't have much money and Xiaomi phones upgraded their firmware and won't let me connect to my PC via USB anymore so this was life-saving.
That's really good to hear because it's not easy, so really pleased something here might help.
Good luck with your Google storage
best thing to do is buy a harddrive
Very true - thanks @Warviation
5:25 - Free storage
👍
I've found a way to back up all my photos that take up zero storage... I get the pictures that I truly care about printed and keep them in a photo album that will last generations 🤓 it's amazing how people care so much about pictures but don't care enough about them to actually make them real😂
Too true! Publishing - the best backup of all!
Thanks for the kind comment
I do too, but that album is full too
I keep deleting files and got down to 9gb, but the next day google still threatened to stop service because I was at 15gb. how do i fix it?
Thank you for sharing these ideas. I was always wondering why my storage in Google was getting full almost overnight despite me having bought a phone which has almost 10 x of storage space more than I actually need. I do not need to save / back up my photos on google
I've been thinking of doing this for a long time, but I always had in mind. Is there a way to migrate all my current backed up photos to the new "photo" gmail? I want to remove all images from my current gmail, google drive and such and keep photos for it's own email.
I want to ask that if we back up our photos in compressed size, does that effect the photos quality?
The last trick to 'Recover Storage' was very helpful, it cleared more storage for me in short time without deleting data, thanks!!
Hi Neil thanks for your helpful video. A question: is there a difference between personal use and the one for work or my business account? if I create the new account choosing the personal use option does it affect the process of saving pics within the new account? thanks a lot
Hi Francesca
Thanks for the very kind comment and question
I've found no difference whatsoever between choosing one for 'personal' or 'business'.
Same
Thanks for your video Neil, very clear information.
Just wondering how to download everything of mine, that has been stored on Google, in the first place so that I can keep it
Thanks again for your tips, most appreciated.
HEY NEIL!!!!Plz tell me how much time will it take in the entire compressing procedure ???
One of the rarest videos on RUclips that actually worked... Thank you 😊
Hi Neil, thanks for the video but what is the process for email with attachments like PDF files, etc.?
Hi Finnleigh - thanks for the kind question, I am so sorry I have not found a fix for downsizing attachments and pdfs etc. I use the Google Drive storage dashboard to at least find the largest attachments to then delete from there.
Good luck with your Google storage and hope you find a workaround
@@neilmossey , thanks Neil. Love your wooden walls. Cozy.
Hi Chuck
Thanks for the kind questions.
Hope these answers help:
You can only partner share with one account at a time, so I now only use one partner sharing account.
I made a video about that here:
ruclips.net/video/hjMCcod6mCM/видео.html
Hope something here works for you and good luck with your storage!
What do you suggest to do with the Gmail storage? The photos portion is helpful. Thank you.
Thank you for this video! How long should it take to compress the photos. Mine has been compressing for nearly 12 hours and nothing has happened. Should I carry on waiting or start again?
