In todays video we take a look at the newly released concept ship that is Misc's Odyssey. There is certainly alot to talk about with this ship, on board refinery, med bay , hangar plus room for vehicles and cargo. All at the hands of a relatively small 6 man crew. Just how big is the potential of this ship?

If you look closely at the layout of the Odyssey at the bridge there seems to be a holotable behind the two command seats. Also, I think it will be quite able to navigate in atmo with its Xi'an omni-directional v-tol thrusters. I think there is more to this ship than CIG has mentioned. I don't think this is a Carrack killer but rather just another Large explorer to diversify the verse :) Gimmie more like it! I'll own them all lol.

You know, Im glad the oddessy is quite different from the Carrack. There's no clear advantage one or the other, they have different missions. Great video!

I also jumped on the Odyssey bandwagon, but then, like you said, some aspects of the Odyssey has some “Misc-ed opportunities” and I ended up melting mine for a Polaris. It’s a sweet looking ship and one day I might change my mind, but the Carrack, when 100% complete, will be amazing!
Here’s the thing, since Star Citizen isn’t going to have thousands of systems, “exploration” will mainly consist of finding mineral fields, derelicts, and other resources. In short, *all* exploration ships are “survey ships.” It’s a distinction without a difference. The Carrack and the Odyssey preform the same role: long range exploration.
Well there will be systems that few ships will actually be able to go to without special navigation and the range to do it. Meaning there will be some systems that most players will never get to see.
I absolutely love this ship, it's my dream ship. Since I was a kid as a science fiction nerd and fan, I always got fascinated and loved the idea of mobile colony ships.....

ME I don't think this ship is a carrack killer....Devs on 02/12/21 its a Carrack killer ! Damn it lol. Certainly a lot of potential in this ship but how effective will it be? What do you guys think about the new Misc Odyssey? Is the Carrack better? Do you own one? As always let me know down below!!
I melted my Scorpius which will be easy to get in game anyway along with a bunch of subscriber flair and got an upgrade token from my 600i Explorer to the Odyssey. I also have a Carrack a 100i game package, a Corsair base, and a Carrack Expedition. Depending on how good the 600i is with the rework will be the factor on weather I use the upgrade but I will probably use it considering how nice the Odyssey is. Everything is LTI except the base package with Squadron 42.
Realistically, the Odyssey isn’t a carrack killer but a companion ship for a Carrack.
They would work perfectly together
Its not a Carrack killer, i would say its the companion. Carrack finds new system, scans it for planets and asteroids, life forms. Odyssey flies to planets, finds out what resources and quantity . both would work in tandem. and have two diffrent roles.

The Odyssey will be cool. I love that all cockpits look like bigger versions of freelancers. I'd prefer a carrack cause I'm not big into mining. Plus possibly mining drones. It would be cool to own though. Biggest ship I got is a reclaimer but can't use it that much.
I was on the fence for this ship for a while, it was the last ship I added to my 8 ship limited fleet. Once I realized I could put a Terrapin in the hanger I was sold on the scanning capabilities that was missing with the ship alone. So as you say I never believe any ship in SC go one-to-one against any other, CIG seems to keep ships slightly different even in the same role. However, it may not be a Carrack killer but adding the terrapin with the additional second scanner makes this perfect for my deep exploration needs. And I also just dig MISC ships and this one looks great!
Odyssey will go to explore whatever carrack finds :)
No need to defend the Carrack. They have two different mission statements.
This is a long term geological surveyor, with capital amenities. In short it's a prospector on roids with team play.
I believe it's meant to test the waters before you send out your Orion. You don't guess moving your Orion.
I got an Odyssey because it has personal crew quarters.
It's all I need in my ship :p
The carrack is a scout that finders the bin and the oddessy is the one that goes through the bin. In my eyes.
If it's 1 on 1, Carrack vs Odyssey in a dog fight... it could be a Carrack killer.
Another Good Video, Ok first off I own a Carrack and my RL buddy owns a Polaris. We had this exact same talk lol. I think the Carrack is the better ship. I was very excited to see the Odyssey , I love to mine. The Carrack is still the most versatile ship in the verse, being modular with a drone bay will be huge. I see ship repair and salvaging both with the drones, now add the map room speed of the ship and Turret location its a very solid match with a Polaris for swatting fighters. Then will talk cargo and vehicles. But i really do like that Odyssey. maybe melt my prospector in a year lol

I like that the ground vehicle hangar (and door) is connected to the shuttle bay. Makes sense that you would want to be able to transfer stuff from ground vehicle to shuttle and vice versa. This could be an excellent large ship, not only for stuff that the ship itself can do, but for the ability to do that kind of tradeoff stuff inside the ship, as opposed to the carrack that could only do that outside of the main ship.
The reason people think its a "carrack killer" is because they expected too much from the carrack.
There wasn't enough ships that filled the big gap that the carrack fits in, and the carrack shouldn't fill all this gap from first place, it only makes sense for the oddysey to exist
This is the non-combat Polaris and less niche Endeavor I was looking for. Glad I didn’t get those. I got a ccu from a 600i to this, can wait till this releases and/or they upgrade the (brutally orphaned) 600i.
I can’t wait for my odyssey. Especially with pyro coming, I’ll park it places and allow smaller ships to refuel, or even be ferried the long distances they can’t travel. Eventually I’ll find a group of friends to be my dedicated crew and use it as a mobile home base where-ever we go. Hide it somewhere secluded and have our own hidden space base to operate out of.
I really hope we get to name them too, that would just be perfect 👌
This ship is for looking for massive mining areas at the very edges of the verse. NOT MINING THEM. It's just missing things like a dedicated scanning room. Does not need one for finding or deposits. Just my idea could be wrong but I doubt it. LOL
Nice hangar, tougher, refuels itself. All good. but until the QA, that's all 3 advantages it has. It doesn't list any actual tools specifically for exploration.
I like it a lot. But at least so far I prefer the Carrack, which is a good balance of toughness, speed, defenses, versatility, modularity and exploration focused mechanics.
Misc Odyssey looks like a space whale. Big'n sleek! Got myself one AND kept my Carrack - Just couldn't decide. Ground vehicle bay will most likely be able to store anything up to and including an Ursa rover. Hopefully both an Ursa and three Dragonfly. The bikes are useful in space as well, and each seats two.
I too CCued my Carrack for the Odyssey. The aspect of mining your own fuel to be self sufficient sold me on this concept over the Carrack. However the carrack comes with a halo table as well as scout drones to help chart its course. I am interested to get the Q&A to find out how odyssey fairs in this area.
But other then that I'm excited for the Odyssey and I'm hoping CIG take the design language from both the hull series and Odyssey to and applies it to the Starfarer's redesign on a gold standard pass.
I did pick up the Odyssey and I do hope it does not take 8 or more years for it to be in game, I am looking at you BMM. It looks like it my come in handy once Pyro comes online sometime next year. It may prove to be a good way for me to move some of my smaller vehicles to other systems.
It absolutely has to have a capital radar.
The more the merrier, the more diffrent ships we have the more vibrant and cool will end product be.

I love it ans as a miner, I really wanted to have this ship. It by no means "beats" my Carrack though. And the Carrack doesn't "beat" it. I really don't want to weigh in further than that until the Q&A drops.
so if theres not coming sort of a remote mining tool, like you can mine and have a different POV then the cockpit, because look at the view you will have from there

I melted my Carrack, I love the Carrack but I think that Odyssey tick more the boxes in regard to what I am looking for in a explorer ship. I can carry larger support ships, ground vehicles and the cherry on the top for me, a captain's chair on the bridge, fantastic.

Seems kinda pointless to speculate when so many of our questions will get answered so soon.
A bit late but I honestly think this is at minimum an equally good exploration ship as the Carrack. Although I disagree with the Odyssey being a survey ship. I would almost argue the Carrack is more of a survey because it won’t be able to stay out and explore as much as the Odyssey because of its limited fuel and survey ships in the real world are used for collecting data for mapping and planning which is exactly what the Carrack does. Either way these are my thoughts:
1. The Carrack most likely will not get a refinery module because it just doesn’t make any sense. To run a refinery it would need a bunch of things it simply doesn’t have. It would require a complete overhaul to install and wouldn’t be feasible to do in just some modules hence why, in my opinion, the Endeavor which is twice the size of the Carrack doesn’t have refinery modules either. Every Endeavor module only requires power to work, nothing else, and that is how I believe modules will be done. Even if the Carrack could for some reason get a refinery through an overhaul, it would need a separate ship to mine the resources for it.
2. From what I know the hangar bay in the Odyssey is about the size of the 890J so we can most likely safely assume it can hold a Prospector, Terrapin, Origin 300 series and other small ships. If you’re finicky you might even be able to get a Merlin in there too at the same time. Depending on the layout you could maybe even cram a vulture in there but I personally doubt it. Either way there are many ships that fit in the hangar that the Odyssey can use to cover some of its weaknesses or functions it doesn’t have.
3. Long Term vs Short(er) Term Exploration is what I personally think it boils down to. The Carrack, even with fuel modules, would have to eventually return to civilization to refuel and it can’t keep exploring and going as far out as it wants because it will always be limited by fuel. The Odyssey on the other hand, unless something goes wrong, can stay out and explore the cosmos until there is no one left to control the ship. Both are amazing explorer ships they just do it in different ways
Wouldn't this be the survey ship and then have the Orion come through to strip the vein dry?
It could if the vein wasn't planetside as the orion can't land on planets.

We need another carrack competitor imo. Odyssey is too much for me to solo and love the function of the Carrack but truly don't like the design. Melted my Carrack for BMM and 400i. Just need to be able to buy med bays and I'll be happy

So the Carrack is still the exploration King that you can live on board, and Odessay is the more comfortable Home ship you can explore in.. 🤷♂️
It does make more sense now.. To bring along the bigger bedrooms and hanger Bay the ship has to get bigger and slower, you their fore need a capital shield to defend it..
All this extra weight and the lack of exploration genetics/efficiency is going to make it a bit of a gas guzzler.. There for it has the capacity to make its own fuel 🤷♂️

Looks like it from the Q&A that a Hornet tracker will be the best thing for the hanger.. To help out with scanning and to offer some defence.. 🤔
Capitol ships are not supposed to be profitable (easily).. This ship makes it so it at least won't be a money sink hole 🕳 by making its own fuel.. Its a way of making a home in space that does not take to much upkeep (unless a capitol part needs replacing).. 🤷♂️
My bet is that you will very much regret CCUing your Carrack short after the Odyssey is released because you'll loose your loaner ;)
Are they S5 guns or S5 turrets. The database has S5 turrets which would have S4 guns fitted or CIG has put the wrong data in again.

I agree. I don't think this is a Carrack-killer. BUT I _do_ think it's going to be an exploration ship, not jjust a survey ship. The way I think of the choice between this thing and the Carrack is: if you have an org (esp a military org) then you go with the Carrack, but if you're solo then you go with this. I think with the self-sufficient aspect of this it's going to be useful for solo play...but it won't be as good of an exploration ship as the Carrack.
I see the Carrack as a military ship with marines on board (all those bunks and all those weapons lockers) and this as a civilian ship with a "we're doing our own thing, so leave us alone" small crew. The Carrack would make a great command ship for a small battle group--the Odyssey would fail at that, imo...maybe fail is too strong, but I don't think it would be as good.
without a doubt, this is a carrack killer, even from the start of the concept, this is one of 3 known ships that harvest it's own fuel, the 100i, starfarer and Odyssey, and this is the ONLY one to do it at Cap class. Any module the Carrack gets, will reduce it's cargo space and it wont be a mining module or a refining module, but if it is, then it wont be as good as this.. Even if it is, well the odyssey still has it's 252 cargo, not to mention that Hangar in the odyssey if no ship is inside it is 3 stories tall, and can hold hangar, way over 4,000 scu. Don't believe me that CIG said that hangars will / could hold cargo, I implore you to look up previous Q&A, even in the endeavor Q&A for cargo and hangar bays.
Without a doubt a more efficient explorer, as no need to travel far to refuel, it will be the best search and rescue, of course Polaris may have cap radar, but Odyssey has the range, Carrack is 3rd place
The infinite fuel bit also warrants the amount of time that can be spent exploring, so treasure hunting, odyssey still wins
Fighting, Aint no way, the carrack wins a 1v1 against odyssey, the cap shields wont even reach 50% before carrack pops.. And if you wanna include pices, great, the (ship) in the odyssey can help too.
Repair & drones, to what extent do people really think the drones are going to repair the carrack, lost wing, lost engine? Fk no, drones wont do that, can't do that, wont even have the material.
Carrack is not better than this ship at all, the only thing the carrack has on it at all, is the 2 large fuel tanks, cartagraphy room.
even then, Odyssey also has 4 large computers, Carrack has 3, odyssey is a beter data runner too. Especially if the terrapin is being used with odyssey which is extremely likely.
I cannot dream, phathom or comprehend the leg people stand on thinking, well carrack is modular. So is the odyssey, you can pick any ship to put in the hangar and that is better than any tiny module in the carrack, and like what's already beaten to death, the best modules in the game hands down would be mining & refining, save so many credits and time from traveling to get fuel and returning.

Am I to understand that there are people that believe that CIG will never build a ship or ships that will out perform, out class and simply all out be better than some of the ships that we have now? If there are, that would be a bit naive I think, when CIG says that a ship is top tier they do not mean that there will not be other top tier ships of the same class. All they are referring to is the capabilities of the ship.

Carrak is an awesome ship.. It can sit off the shoulder of Hurston and see into pyro.. Odussey cant.. However, Odyssey mines its own fuel and refines it as well.. Carrak cant.. Except for size ( Odyssey is nearly a third again larger ) the two ships appear evenly matched, but they arent.. Carrak is a cartological mapping/survey ship. Odyssey is a planetary geological survey ship.. It maps gasses and minerals.. In my opinion, you ned two ships in the Odysseys hangar. You need a prospector ( as Odyssey can only mine quantUM stuff ) and an infor runner for delivering geo-maps too your clients who can use them to decide the viability of the planet as a place for colonization or mining.. For the Carrack to be able to cross the disatances the odyssey can cross it will need two ships as well. A Mole to mine fuel and a star lifter too refine it..
It's think it's just a away of getting a small hanger without having a Polaris.. I think you will have two ✌️ types of people those that have a Carrack and a Polaris (will not want this) then there will be those that can't stomach the extra cost of 2 large ships and will "upgrade" to the Oddesy for the larger hanger..🤷♂️
Think I will be sticking with the Carrack and the polaris.. Bring the right 👉 ship for the job 🤷♂️.. Will also be keeping the BMM and the perseus for causing mischief 😉 ✌️
This ship is for the weary explorer, hence the free fuel.. Those worried at the scope and cost of the game, both in real world money and in game.. 🤷♂️

i kept telling people the 2 ships are not comparable and this is perfect in making me right! its a lot closer to the starfarer than the carrack. comparing the odyssey and carrack to me is like comparing an endeavor to a merlin....
i cant see the 700 dollar value in the odyssey! if they sold it for 300 i would probably get the CCU.
on foot refueling is horrible!!!! at least let there be automated.
